Book excerpt: The study was led by six research questions, and six hypotheses were examined at a significance level of 0.05. The quasi-experimental design was used, notably the non-equivalent control group design for the pretest and posttest. 4,873 senior secondary school students in the Nnewi Education Zone of the state of Anambra make up the study’s population. In the study, 2.73 percent of the population was used. A sample of 133 Nnewi Education Zone SS2 computer science students was used. The Computer Studies Department and one knowledgeable computer studies teacher from Nnewi. Kudder-Richardson Formula 20 was used to determine the instrument’s reliability. The CSAT was used as a pretest and posttest to gather data. Three weeks following the post test, the retention test was given.The results demonstrated that a lesson followed by animated media education greatly improved students’ computer science performance. When compared to the traditional approach, only tutorials considerably increased students’ retention, however, this improvement was not significant when compared to animated media. The study concluded that tutorials are successful at raising students’ achievement and retention. The use of animated material in the classroom has been shown to improve student achievement.

Book excerpt: This study was conducted to determine the effect of the use of the animation on the academic achievements of the students, retention of this achievement, and the development of scientific process skills in the unit of force and motion of the science and technology course of the 6th grade basic education and to find out the student's views. The sampling of the research was made up of by 40 students studying in a primary school in the city centre in Erzurum who were divided into Experiment Group (EG) (n = 20) and Control Group (CG) (n = 20). The study was carried out in 2010-2011 education year. While animation assisted student centred teaching approach was used with the students in the experiment group, student centred teaching approach was used with the students in the control group. As a result of the study, it was found that the use of animation in the basic education 6th grade science and technology course in the unit of force and motion had positive effects on the academic achievements of the students, retention of this achievement, and the development of scientific process skills. Moreover, it was determined that the students in the experiment group expressed positive views about the use of animations.

Book excerpt: This study has been carried out in order to determine the effect of computer animations in teaching acid and base topics in science and technology courses on the academic success of the primary school students and the opinions of students related to teaching with the animations. This research was conducted by the participation of 55 students from two different classes of 8th grade at a primary school in the city centre of Erzurum during the first semester of the 2006-2007 academic years. One of the classes, in which animation technique was used, was determined as the "animation group" and, the other class, in which the traditional teacher-centered instruction was dominant, as the "control group". Data in this research were collected by Science and Technology Achievement Test (STAT) and Student Opinion Scale (SOS). The data gathered through by STAT were compared by independent sample t test. The results of SOS were presented in table as percentages and arithmetic means. The finding indicates that students taught by computer supported animations were better than those in traditional teaching group. In addition, data gathered through student's opinion scale suggest that students liked computer animations.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the instructional effects of various animation strategies. Three treatment groups involved include static graphic, animation used as an attention-gaining strategy, and animation used as an attention-gaining and elaboration strategy. Participants were 115 college student volunteers. Two-way multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the data. Important findings indicate equivalent, non significant difference in performance between high and low prior knowledge participants. This was so regardless of animation strategies. The effects of the animation strategies on the achievement of students with low prior knowledge are discussed in detail.
