Book excerpt: The 2015 International Conference on Applied System Innovation (ICASI 2015) was held May 22-27, 2015 in Osaka, Japan and provided a unified communication platform for researchers active in a wide range of research fields. Professionals from industry, academia and government were encouraged to discourse on research and development, professional practice, business and management in the information, innovation, communication and engineering fields. This conference enabled interdisciplinary collaboration between science and engineering technologists in the academic and industry fields as well as networking internationally. The conference received 1063 submitted papers, whereby 421 papers were selected by the committees to be presented at the ICASI 2015 conference. These papers were divided into 13 Regular Sessions and 13 Invited Sessions, and presented in several parallel sessions. The ICASI 2015 committees selected 226 excellent papers for publication in this proceedings volume, covering topics ranging from information technology, innovation design, communication science and engineering, industrial design, creative design, applied mathematics, computer science, design theory and cultural and creative research to electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and automation engineering, green technology and architecture engineering and material science, among others.

Book Effect of Exhaust Pressure on the Performance of an 18 cylinder Air cooled Radial Engine with a Valve Overlap of 62 Degrees

Download or read book Effect of Exhaust Pressure on the Performance of an 18 cylinder Air cooled Radial Engine with a Valve Overlap of 62 Degrees written by Leroy V. Humble and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dynamometer-stand investigation was conducted to determine the effect of exhaust pressure on the performance of an 18-cylinder air-cooled, radial engine equipped with a conventional exhaust collector ring. The investigation covered a range of engine speeds from 1400 to 2600 rpm, inlet-manifold pressures from 30 to 50 inches of mercury absolute, fuel-air ratios of 0.063, 0.069, 0.085, and 0.100, and spark settings of 20 degrees and 35 degrees B.T.C. The exhaust pressure was varied, in general, from approximately 6 inches of mercury absolute to about 20 inches of mercury above the inlet-manifold pressure.

Book Light and Heavy Vehicle Technology

Download or read book Light and Heavy Vehicle Technology written by M.J. Nunney and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light and Heavy Vehicle Technology, Second Edition deals with the theory and practice of vehicle maintenance, procedure, and diagnosis of vehicle trouble, including technological advances such as four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and anti-lock brakes. The book reviews the reciprocating piston petrol engine, the diesel engine, the combustion chambers, and the different means of combustion processes. To counter friction, heat and wear, lubrication to the different moving parts is important. To counter excessive heat which can cause breakdown of lubricating oil films and materials such as gaskets, O-rings, the engine is designed with a cooling system that uses air, water, or engine coolants. Petrol engines use the carburation or injection type of fuel delivery; diesel engines use a high pressure system of fuel injection owing to the higher pressures existing in the diesel combustion chamber. The text explains the operation of the other parts of the vehicle including the ignition and starter system, emission controls, layshaft gearboxes, drive lines, and suspension systems. Heavy vehicles need highly efficient air brakes to stop them compared to the hydraulic brake systems used in smaller and lighter vehicles. The book is suitable for mechanical engineers, engine designers, students, and instructors in mechanical and automotive engineering.
