Book Phosphorus and Sulphur Fertilizer for Summer Soybean

Download or read book Phosphorus and Sulphur Fertilizer for Summer Soybean written by Heeralal Yadav and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] is considered to be a miracle crop because of its dual qualities viz., high protein content and oil. These two parameters in one crop have thus gained considerable importance in the agricultural economy of the World. It has high yield potential, wide adaptability, and short duration, very high nutritional value, having a vast multiplicity of uses as food and industrial products. Moreover, being a legume, the crop fix large amount of atmospheric nitrogen in soil. Phosphorus and sulphur play impotent role in crop production. Phosphorus for the soybean crop has long been recognized. Phosphorus is a key element in process of photosynthesis, root nodulation and for growth, yield and quality. Thus optimum supply of P is necessary for enhance the rate of protein synthesis in pulse crops. It increased seed yield and protein content of soybean. Sulphur as secondary plant nutrient is becoming increasingly important in agriculture as it is the "Master Nutrient" for all oilseed crops and pulses and is rightly being called the "Forth Major Plant Nutrient," along with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Book Phosphorus and Zinc Effects on Soybean Glycine Max L Merrill Yield and Agronomic Efficiency

Download or read book Phosphorus and Zinc Effects on Soybean Glycine Max L Merrill Yield and Agronomic Efficiency written by Godfred Ankomah and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphorus (P) and zinc (Zn) are required for the growth and development of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill). However, their interactions may affect the uptake of each nutrient and soybean growth, development, and yield. The objective of this research study was to identify possible interactions of P and Zn and determine the effect upon soybean nutrient status, yield, and agronomic efficiency. This study was conducted at the Illinois State University Farm at Lexington and Normal in 2020. The experimental design was a 4 x 4 factorial arranged in a randomized complete block design with four blocks at each location. Phosphorus was applied as mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) at 0, 33, 67, 100 kg P ha-1 and zinc was applied as zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) at 0, 5, 11, 16 kg Zn ha-1. Fully developed trifoliate leaves from the top three nodes were collected at R2 and seed samples were taken at R6 for analysis of P and Zn. Phosphorus fertilization had no effect on the P concentration of leaves but increased the P concentration of the seeds. The P concentration of the seeds for the highest rate (100 kg P ha-1) was greater than the control (0 kg P ha-1) and the lowest P rate (33 kg P ha-1). Zinc application had no effect on Zn concentration of soybean leaves and seeds. Neither P nor Zn affected soybean yield components and yield. Phosphorus and zinc agronomic efficiency did not improve with P and Zn application, respectively. There was no soil P-Zn interaction that affected soybean growth and yield. However, there was a weak inverse correlation between leaf P concentration and seed Zn concentration (r = -0.43), and between leaf Zn concentration and seed P concentration (r = -0.30). This study revealed that soybean yield and agronomic efficiency do not respond positively to P and Zn application when the soil test indicates P and Zn are sufficient.

Book Optimizing Soybean Glycine Max L Yield with Nitrogen and Sulfur Applications

Download or read book Optimizing Soybean Glycine Max L Yield with Nitrogen and Sulfur Applications written by Kacey A. Cannon and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although soybean (Glycine max L.) yields have increased over the past decade, even greater improvement is in demand. Nontraditional practices such as applying nitrogen (N) to soybean for yield optimization, might be one way to meet this demand. Also, sulfur (S) is becoming a more important limiting nutrient in production due to higher yielding crops, lower S containing production inputs, and reduced supply from the environment. The N study involved two environments, irrigated and dryland, in Milan (35.9198° N, 88.7589° W) and Jackson (35.6145° N, 88.8139° W), TN in 2015 and 2016. Urea fertilizer treatments were 34, 67, and 101 kg N ha−1 (per hectare). Soybean height, nodes per plant, total biomass weight, biomass N concentration, total nodules per plant, total active nodules per plant, total adolescent nodules per plant, total nodule weight per plant, 100 seed weight, and yield were collected to evaluate treatment effects. Data analysis concluded that N applications significantly increased plant height, plant nodes, and plant biomass of soybean. However, N treatments significantly reduced active and adolescent nodule production. Soybean yield was not significantly increased by the N applications. The irrigated sites yielded at or below the dryland comparison, probably due to lodging, which may have compromised yield potential. The S study included soybean and corn (Zea mays L.) experiments, which were conducted in an S deficient soil in Milan, TN in 2015 and 2016. Ammonium sulfate treatments were 11, 23, and 34 kg S ha−1 (per hectare). Plant height, leaf S concentrations, seed S and N concentrations, 100 seed weight, and yield were collected to evaluate treatment effects. Data analysis concluded that S application significantly increased leaf S concentrations in corn but not soybean. Soybean and corn seed S was significantly increased but not seed N. Soybean yield was not increased, but corn yield was significantly increased 16% across all S rates, with no significant differences detected among S rates. Overall, results indicate N affected soybean growth and nodule development while the impact on yield was not demonstrated. In deficient soils, S fertilizer may improve corn yields, but may not be economical for soybean.
