Book Effect of Phosphoric Acid Etching Prior to Application of Self etching Primer SEP on Shear Bond Strenght

Download or read book Effect of Phosphoric Acid Etching Prior to Application of Self etching Primer SEP on Shear Bond Strenght written by Grace Shao-Chiu Chen and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to determine the effect of phosphoric acid etching prior to application of self-etching primer on orthodontic bonding in terms of shear bond strength and the adhesive remnant on the enamel surface at debonding. METHODS: Fifty-one extracted human premolars were pumiced, rinsed, dried, and then subjected to three different treatments: Group 1: no phosphoric acid etching + Transbond Plus SEP; Group 2: 15-second etching with 37% phosphoric acid + rinsed + dried + Transbond Plus SEP; Group 3: 30-second etching with 37% phosphoric acid + rinsed + dried + Transbond Plus SEP. Precoated metal brackets (3M Unitek, APC Plus, Victory brackets) were then bonded following the manufacturer's recommendation. An Instron Universal Testing Machine was used to test shear bond strength (SBS) at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Adhesive remnant index (ARI) was assigned to all specimens under a 16 times magnification using a light microscope. RESULTS: One-way repeated measured analysis of variance test (ANOVA) revealed no significant differences in shear bond strength among all three groups. Kruskal Wallis test revealed that there was a significant difference in ARI score between Group 1 when compared to Groups 2 and 3. Two-way analysis of variance was used to examine any statistical difference in frequency of enamel fracture craters among the three groups. CONCLUSION: There was no statistical difference in shear bond strength between the three groups. Most specimens demonstrated adequate shear bond strength (>/= 6 MPa) for routine clinical application. Etching enamel with phosphoric acid prior to the use of Transbond Plus SEP resulted in more adhesive remaining on the enamel surface. The removal of this excess surface cement may lead to increased enamel loss during post debonding clean up.

Book The Effect of Phosphoric Acid Etch in Conjunction with Self etching Primer on Enamel Surfaces and Resultant Orthodontic Bracket Bond Strength

Download or read book The Effect of Phosphoric Acid Etch in Conjunction with Self etching Primer on Enamel Surfaces and Resultant Orthodontic Bracket Bond Strength written by Michael Bruce Olsen and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the methods of preparing the enamel surface for orthodontic bracket adhesion in overcoming pellicle and possible fluid contamination from prebonding cleaning techniques and the effect of these treatments on the enamel surface and resultant bond strength. Shear bond strength testing, Raman linear mapping, and scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluate shear bond strength, depth of resin interface, and surface and cross-sectional characteristics respectively. Based on an analysis of variance (a=.05), there was a significant effect of pretreatment enamel conditioning prior to self-etching primer application on shear bond strength. This difference was found to exist solely between the pumice prophylaxis group and the 34% phosphoric acid etch group. No difference was found to exist across all groups with regards to depth of resin penetration. Scanning electron microscopy showed no significant differences in enamel surface or resin/enamel interface characteristics. Results suggest that enamel cleaning techniques prior to SEP application are unnecessary and even deleterious to bond strength and resin penetration.

Book Shear Bond Strength of a Single Use Self etching Primer Used Multiple Times Over 24 Hours

Download or read book Shear Bond Strength of a Single Use Self etching Primer Used Multiple Times Over 24 Hours written by Nadine Williams and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objectives: To determine whether single use Transbond PlusTM self-etching primer (SEP) (3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif) in vitro shear bond strength (SBS) will be affected if used multiple times over a prolonged period, for cost-effectiveness. Materials and Methods: Transbond TM Plus SEP was used to bond brackets to 120 extracted human teeth at three different time points after opening the SEP package: immediately- (as recommended by manufacturer), 4 hours-, and 24 hours after opening. Samples were debonded with a universal testing machine after 24 hours to assess short term SBS, and after 2 months to assess bond maturation. Results: No statistically significant difference in SBS was found in the 24-hour debond group between the different time points of package opening, but there was a significant statistical difference for the 2-month debond group (p

Book Restoration of Root Canal Treated Teeth

Download or read book Restoration of Root Canal Treated Teeth written by Jorge Perdigão and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-02 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the restoration of teeth retained through root canal treatment, from the perspective of adhesive dentistry. The challenge of adhesion to root dentin is first explained and guidance provided on assessment of the restorability of endodontically treated teeth. The types of prefabricated passive post are then described in detail. The advantages and disadvantages of each type are outlined, with identification of the factors that influence post selection. Further topics include the ferrule effect, evidence‐based clinical applications of fiber posts and new methods to lute fiber posts to the root canal without dentin adhesives. In addition, frequent myths are identified and dispelled. All aspects are illustrated with clinical and laboratory images, diagrams and high-resolution electron microscopy photographs.

Book excerpt: This book presents some information regarding adhesives which have applications in industry, medicine and dentistry. The book is divided into two parts: "Adhesives Applications in Medicine and Dentistry" and "Properties of Adhesive." The aim of such a presentation is to present the usage in very different aspects of application of the adhesives and present specific properties of adhesives. Adhesives' advantageous properties and relatively uncomplicated processing methods contribute to their increasing application and their growing popularity in the industry, medicine and other branches. Some adhesives represent properties superior to those of most adhesive materials, due to their excellent adhesion and chemical resistance. A wide variety of adhesives' considerable flexibility in modification of properties of adhesives allows adjusting the composition to particular applications.
