Book Effect of Hardness Surface Finish and Grain Size on Rolling Contact Fatigue Life of M50 Bearing Steel

Download or read book Effect of Hardness Surface Finish and Grain Size on Rolling Contact Fatigue Life of M50 Bearing Steel written by R. A. Baughman and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of hardness, surface finish and grain size upon the compressive rolling contact fatigue strength of M-50 bearing steel has been studied. Considerable testing on the RC Rig and statistical treatment methods have been included. A mathematical expression relating these variables to life expectancy is presented and the optimization of these variables is discussed. It is shown that bearing fatigue of M50 increases by increasing hardness, decreasing surface, and increasing grain size. The optimum life identified occurs at Rc 64 hardness, 1.5 RMS surface finish, and a grain size of ASTM 2.

Book Surface Effects and Contact Mechanics including Tribology XII

Download or read book Surface Effects and Contact Mechanics including Tribology XII written by J.Th.M. De Hossen and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2015-04-21 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains papers from the twelfth in a series of biennial conferences, first held in 1993, on the topics of contact mechanics and surface effects and their interaction. In general, structural components fail by wear, corrosion and fatigue, that is to say affected and initiated by surface conditions. Consequently, it is often appropriate to modify the surface layer of a base material or coat it, so as to provide an enhanced performance or longer life. However, in many cases it is the combined effect of wear and corrosion that is damaging, contributing to complexity in determining the proper approach. The surface treatment chosen should be suitably related to the problem to be solved. The necessary thickness of the coating depends largely on the applied loading and environmental conditions. The papers in the book address novel protective layers for advances in sliding wear and low friction. The contents cover topics such as: Experimental and Measurement Tests; Surface Modification; Surface Problems in Contact Mechanics; Thick and Thin Coatings; Tribomechanics; Computer Simulation.

Book Rolling Contact Fatigue Life of Various Kinds of High Hardness Steels and Influence of Material Factors on Rolling Contact Fatigue Life

Download or read book Rolling Contact Fatigue Life of Various Kinds of High Hardness Steels and Influence of Material Factors on Rolling Contact Fatigue Life written by K. Maeda and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of material factors, such as types of steels, steelmaking process, cleanliness, fiber orientation, forging ratio, subzero treatment upon rolling contact fatigue life, was investigated for rolling bearing steels produced recently. Rolling contact fatigue life of recent steels which have high cleanliness has increased remarkably, and the influence of fiber orientation or subzero treatment upon rolling contact fatigue life is negligible, contrary to previous steels. Rolling contact fatigue life levels of each type of steels tested under three different test conditions were described. Depending on test conditions, their rolling contact fatigue strengths relative to others differed significantly in some cases.
