Book Linear Dimensional Changes of Heat Cure Acrylic Resins

Download or read book Linear Dimensional Changes of Heat Cure Acrylic Resins written by Saryu Arora and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From almost the time dentistry achieved a professional status, there has been a constant search to obtain a denture base material of life like appearance, one that would not deteriorate in service. The introduction and use of acrylic resin as a denture base material since 1937 has revolutionized the dentistry in a big way. Since then no other material has been found that matches the appearance of the oral soft tissues with as great fidelity as acrylic resin. Heat cured acrylic resins are the most commonly used materials for denture base processing. It has fine esthetic properties, excellent color stability and can be used with a simple technique for the construction of dentures. Inspite of having all these advantages, dimensional inaccuracies have been a critical component in assessing in vivo performances of these materials. These changes have profound effect on Complete Denture Occlusion. Even minor changes can lead to severe discrepancies. Dimensional inaccuracies is still a major challenge for the Prosthodontist which need to be corrected for better results. The aim of this study is to search for such a Denture Base material which shows minimal inaccuracies.

Book Effect of Cooling Procedures Over Linear Dimensional Changes in PMMA

Download or read book Effect of Cooling Procedures Over Linear Dimensional Changes in PMMA written by Aqeel Ibrahim and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denture bases are commonly made from acrylic resins, which were introduced by Dr. Walter Wright back in 1937. Among these, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used. PMMA material is mostly processed by wet heat and compression molding techniques, which deliver dentures with acceptable mechanical properties. However, certain dimensional changes are known to occur in acrylic resin during or after its processing. These changes hold clinical significance because for better adaptation to oral tissues, denture base material must have dimensional accuracy during and after its processing. However, inaccuracies tend to occur due to unavoidable changes during fabrication such as thermal expansion on heating, contraction on cooling and polymerization shrinkage. The purported significance of this study is to find out the most suitable cooling procedure for achieving maximum dimensional accuracy following a standard heating cycle. This will lead to the fabrication of a denture which will have better retention, support, stability.

Book The Effect of Newly Prepared Cleansing Agent on The Surface Roughness and Tensile Strength of Highly Impact Acrylic Denture Base Material

Download or read book The Effect of Newly Prepared Cleansing Agent on The Surface Roughness and Tensile Strength of Highly Impact Acrylic Denture Base Material written by Amer Taqa and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Chemistry - Other, grade: 3, , language: English, abstract: Aims: To evaluate the effect of two prepared and commercial solution on surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material Materials and Methods: The total number of specimens were one hundred and fifty. They were prepared from highly impact acrylic and subdivided into five groups for each solution (EDTA, Soda+H2O2, Lacalut, Corega and distilled water). Two laboratory tests were used for this research. Surface Roughness and tensile strength test. The surface roughness test specimens were constructed with dimensions (10×10×2±0.03mm) (length, width, and thickness respectively). According to ADA specification no.12 the tensile test specimens were constructed with dimensions 90×10×3±0.03mm (length, width, and thickness respectively). The immersion periods in this research are (2 day, 7 day and one month). ANOVA and Duncan multiple range test were used. The statistical results were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. Results: the results showed that (soda+H2O2) has no significant change on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2d ay, 7 day, and 1 month) conclusion: (soda+H2O2) has the lowest effect on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2 day, 7 day, and 1 month) Key words: denture cleanser, highly impact, lacalut

Book Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients

Download or read book Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients written by George A. Zarb and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering the functional and esthetic needs of edentulous patients, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients: Complete Dentures and Implant-Supported Prostheses, 13th Edition helps you provide complete dentures, with and without dental implant support. It addresses both the behavioral and clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment and covers treatment modalities including osseointegration, overdentures, implant-supported fixed prosthesis, and the current and future directions of implant prosthodontics. New to this edition are full-color photographs and coverage of immediately loaded complete dental prostheses. From lead editor and respected educator George Zarb, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients provides an atlas of clinical procedures and emphasizes the importance of evidence-based treatment. - Short, easy-to-read chapters cover the essentials of care for both short- and long-term patients, stressing the importance of evidence-based treatment. - Expanded coverage of implant prosthodontics addresses the clinical protocols for implant-retained and implant-supported prosthodontic management. - Specific chapters address the three surfaces of the complete denture: (1) an impression or intaglio surface, (2) a polished surface, and (3) an occlusal surface, the integration of which is crucial to creating a stable, functional, and esthetic result. - Chapter on health and nutrition examines a number of systemic conditions (vesciculoerosive conditions, systemic lupus erythematosus, burning mouth syndrome, salivary dysfunction, Sjögren's syndrome, hyper/hyposalivation, diabetes) that affect the oral cavity and specifically influence the prognosis for wearing complete dentures or for accepting osseointegrated prostheses. - Chapter on the time-dependent changes which occur in the oral cavity focuses on both time-related direct (ulcer/cheek biting, irritation hyperplasia, denture stomatitis, flabby ridge and pendulous maxillary tuberosities, hyperkeratosis and oral cancer, residual ridge reduction) and indirect (atrophy of masticatory muscles, nutritional status and masticatory function, control of sequelae) changes in the oral environment, and provides strategies to minimize the risk of such changes. - Chapter on the techniques used to prolong the life of complete dentures focuses on the two techniques used to extend the life of dentures: relining and rebasing, also touching on denture duplication. - Well-respected editors and contributors are the leaders in their field, lending credibility and experience to each topic.
