Download or read book Churchill s Little Redhead written by Celia Sandys and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2021-12-02 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Churchill’s Little Redhead’ is the autobiography of much-travelled author and television presenter, Celia Sandys, Winston Churchill’s granddaughter. In 1959 she accompanied her grandparents on the ‘Christina’, Aristotle Onassis’s superyacht, for a grand tour of the Mediterranean with another guest, the legendary diva, Maria Callas. During the extraordinary journey, sixteen-year-old Celia witnessed the burgeoning romance between Onassis and Callas, a love affair which resulted in two divorces within a year. Celia was born in war-ravaged London in 1943, the daughter of Duncan Sandys, her grandfather’s Minister of Supply in his war cabinet, and Diana Churchill. Celia recalls in much detail post-war rationing and the make-do atmosphere that prevailed at the time. In her spirited book she describes the ups and downs of her three marriages, from which she bore three sons and a daughter. The sad death of her divorced mother is touched upon with tenderness, and the death of her favourite aunt, Sarah, who had spent several years deteriorating into alcoholism following the sudden death of her beloved husband is narrated with much understanding and obvious love. Once her children had flown the nest, Celia developed a new career as an author and wrote three books on her grandfather. One of which, ‘Chasing Churchill’, led her to present it as a television series, in which she travelled the world re-tracing her grandfather’s footsteps: from his military escapades in Cuba, the Boer War, his vital wartime meetings with President Roosevelt and countless other visits to his ‘other country’ the United States. A thoroughly modern and independent woman of spirit, Celia’s eventful life makes for a fascinating read.

Tygre, the beautiful heroine of The Racing Heart, becomes an unwilling pawn caught between the international forces of money, power, sex, and fanaticism. The story follows Tygre's transformation from her childhood in Poland to her coming of age through her experiences as a top supermodel, which affords her entrée into rarefied levels of high society, wealth, and power. The Racing Heart, a romantic thriller, is a gripping roller-coaster of emotions, events, and determination to overcome impossible odds. Download or read book A 21st Century Palace written by Geoffrey Bradfield and published by Glitterati. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This captivating book, the second in a series christened A 21st Century Palace, offers readers a transporting virtual tour through one exceptionally dazzling palace. In this volume, we find ourselves in Jerusalem. Few places on Earth have exuded more mystery and power than this deified ancient city. And even fewer designers possess the worldliness and talent to bring that mystery and power into the third dimension in ways that both consider its many millennia of astonishing history and also telegraph a modernity as thoroughly fresh and modern as the current moment. "That Bradfield takes breathtaking, albeit educated, risks that would daunt another designer is a testament to his confidence and maturity," says the Parisian gallerist Jean-Gabriel Mitterand. "It is unbelievably audacious to pair a precious, yet decorative, Claude Lalanne chandelier with a Peter Kogler table that utilizes computer technology to create what is really state-of-the-art functional sculpture," notes Mitterand of one such daring juxtaposition. "They were not created in the same spirit, but in the end Geoffrey intuitively understood there was something essentially baroque about both of them. After decades of observing Bradfield championing artists such as the Lalannes prior to their becoming voraciously collected by wealthy purveyors of taste," says Mitterand, "His roster of clients has become more and more international, and he commands more and more authority." Which is why Bradfield finds himself now at the apex of his career. In his Foreword to this book, the Honorable John L. Loeb, former American Ambassador to Denmark, declares "Bradfield's rare talent has propelled him into the upper echelon of design - and places him amongst the few designers working in the world today who are truly global."
Download or read book One Madder Woman written by Dede Crane and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A memorable and clandestine love story between two visionary artists in 19th-century Paris. "These madmen -- and one madder woman -- paint as if suffering seizures! One cannot make heads or tails of the work without taking ten paces back." In One Madder Woman, Dede Crane vividly recreates the life of Berthe Morisot, the sole female member of the renowned group of artists known as the Impressionists. Inspired by true events, One Madder Woman charts her complicated relationship with her sister and rival, Edma, and her tumultuous love affair with Édouard Manet, the charismatic enfant terrible of the Paris Salon, against a backdrop of upheaval and war in mid-19th-century Paris. One Madder Woman illuminates the stories behind familiar masterpieces, and sketches a life teeming with obstacles defied and conquered by the genius of Morisot. At a time when art was a space completely dominated by men, Morisot upends all expectations of what a "proper woman" should be and manages to carve out her own place in the art world. Crane's rich prose and lyrical expression bring this revolutionary artistic period to life, in vivid and glorious colour.
