Book Returns to Corn and Soybean Tillage Practices

Download or read book Returns to Corn and Soybean Tillage Practices written by Michael Duffy and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: Average per-acre returns differ little for most U.S. corn and soybean farmers using various alternative tillage strategies, according to this analysis of 1980 farm-level production data. Midwest conventional-till soybean farmers, however, accrue a significantly higher average return than do Midwest no-till farmers. Most conservation-till soybean farmers in the three major producing regions incur significantly lower input costs than do conventional-till soybean farmers, but also harvest lower yields except in the Southeast. Significant differences were found in the use of specific corn and soybean inputs among alternative tillage strategies.

Book Agronomic and Economic Evaluations of Zero and Conventional Tillage in Corn Production

Download or read book Agronomic and Economic Evaluations of Zero and Conventional Tillage in Corn Production written by R.A. Oliveros and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was conducted to further evaluate the effects of tillage system on corn stand and yield to find out the economic implications of the different tillage systems based on the corn responses. Percent stand was nor affected by tillage system in the wet season cropping but was affected in the dry season cropping. Corn yield was not significantly affected by tillage systems. Cost of production was relatively higher in conventional tillage (T3 and T4) than zero tillage (T1 and T2). Labor cost comprised the bulk of the production cost in conventional tillage while material input cost comprised the bulk of the production cost in zero tillage. Greater returns were obtained in conventional tillage with handweeding (T3) than the other tillage systems (T1, T2 and T4). Labor efficiency was higher in zero tillage than in conventional tillage while material input and cost efficiency were higher in conventional tillage than in zero tillage. Partial budgest analysis revealed that conventional tillage with handweeding (T3) can be employed instead of the tillage systems (T1, T2 and T4) without foregoing any profit.

Book Green Fields Forever

Download or read book Green Fields Forever written by Charles E. Little and published by . This book was released on 1987-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture, the largest sector of the American economy, is of major importance to all citizens. "Conservation tillage" is a new style of agriculture that should affect both the ecology and economics of farming. It leaves the land relatively undisturbed; the plow is not used; soil dynamics is allowed to work; erosion is reduced. The author discusses pros and cons; he describes farmer scientists and farmer inventors. He depicts society, from the Bushman hunter-gatherers to the American victims of the "new agriculture depression." Finally, he observes that people are at a crossroads in affirming agriculture as a way of life: there is the possibility for ecological revitalization of the agriculture profession, the bases of society. ISBN 0-933280-35-1: $24.95.

Book The Economics of Agri Environmental Policy Volume II

Download or read book The Economics of Agri Environmental Policy Volume II written by Sandra S. Batie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume set collects key essays examining economic theory, methods, and issues salient to agri-environmental policy in the US and in Europe, as well as in other countries. The topics under discussion are arranged thematically and include theoretical, numerical and empirical works; all are grounded in policy and economics. The introduction to these volumes reviews the evolution of agri-environmental policies, with an important focus on the history of US policy and European agri-environmental policy. A key feature within this is the importance of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US, particularly its move towards more 'market-based incentives' from the 1980s onwards. Within the European context, the effects of the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) on agri-environmental programmes and schemes within the member states, are discussed. Significantly, the essays republished here have provided the knowledge base that has influenced further applied work, creating an influential impact on policy development.
