Book Northern Ireland Economy

Download or read book Northern Ireland Economy written by Esmond Birnie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this timely study emerged at a critical juncture for the EU and Ireland, and aimed to review the past development and future prospects of the Northern Ireland economy in the light of the European Union and its possible expansion. Esmond Birnie and David M.W.N. Hitchens examine the economic circumstances in the wake of Northern Ireland’s longstanding position as a region which lags behind UK performance in the EU. Here, they update the data and discussion contained in an earlier study by the authors, Closing the Productivity Gap (1990), through discussions including engines of growth, the process of convergence and the current and likely development of Northern Ireland-Republic of Ireland economic links. This book will be of use to both academics, undergraduates, A-level students and the general reader.

Book The Economy of Northern Ireland

Download or read book The Economy of Northern Ireland written by Paul Teague and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this collection focus on the need for a radical rethink of economic policy in Northern Ireland. The central theme of the collection is that Northern Ireland needs a regional policy based on the creation of an agglomeration economy. This, in turn, requires the back-up of a regional institutional framework. To create such a framework Northern Ireland needs new structures of governance, based on further disconnection from the mainland. Contributors: J.E. Birnie, Vani Borooah, Robert Clulow, Celia Davies, Douglas Hamilton, Mark Hart, Norma Heaton, D.M.W.N. Hitchins, Rory O'Donell, Gillian Robinson, Michael Smyth, Paul Teague, K. Wagner.

Download or read book Response to the Consultation on the Draft Programme for Government 2011 15 the Draft Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland 2011 21 and the Draft Economic Strategy written by Northern Ireland. Assembly. Committee for Regional Development and published by . This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the response to the consultation on the Draft Programme for Government 2011-15,the Draft Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland 2011-21 and the Draft Economic Strategy. In order to provide a structured approach to the consultation, the Committee identified four key areas contained within the Pfg, ISNI and EA documents: Public Transport; Road and Rail Infrastructure and Investment; Sustainable Transport; and Water and Wastewater. Overall, there was a sense of disappointment in the draft strategies. Whilst there was recognition of the progress made since the last PfG, there was a consensus that an opportunity to address the many challenges facing Northern Ireland had been missed. A number of responses suggested that the commitments were based on existing targets and budgets, that these were generic and lacked overall detail and that they did not take into account the current economic climate facing Northern Ireland and the global economy. In addition, it was suggested that the generality of the outputs made measurement of progress extremely difficult
