Book The New Politics of the European Union Budget

Download or read book The New Politics of the European Union Budget written by Stefan Becker and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After over a decade of relative stability, recent years have seen new momentum in EU budget politics. The Treaty of Lisbon introduced the broadest reform of budgetary procedures since the 1970s, while the financial and economic crisis has intensified scepticism towards European integration among citizens and decision-makers. As a result, the EU budget has become more controversial, more flexible and more fragmented. This volume brings together contributions from scholars and practitioners that address empirical and theoretical questions surrounding the new politics of the EU budget.

Book The European Fund for Strategic Investments The Legacy

Download or read book The European Fund for Strategic Investments The Legacy written by European Investment Bank and published by European Investment Bank. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inside story of the European Fund for Strategic Investments from 2015 to 2020 told through interviews with the Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, members of the Investment Committee and final beneficiaries across Europe. The architects of this €500 billion-plus programme, the head of the EU bank and the president of the European Commission, describe the genesis of this financial pillar of the Investment Plan for Europe. Then the people who ran one of the biggest economic stimulus programmes in history detail how they did it—and what the lessons are for policymakers responding to new crises, including the economic shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The European Fund for Strategic Investments has been one of the good news stories to emerge in a decade of economic uncertainty. It has gone well beyond its highly ambitious target of €500 billion in mobilised investments. The Juncker Plan has made a strong contribution to the 14 million jobs created in the EU between 2015 and 2020. It has become a success in co-financing projects that otherwise might not have been carried through. It has also charted the path towards new ways of financing. This is not only the case in relatively conventional areas, such as infrastructure, but also in sectors like research and innovation or the contribution to climate change mitigation. This is exactly what makes EFSI so ground-breaking: responding to the needs of the market through continuous financial innovation. The principle of the European Fund for Strategic Investments is here to stay. It has paved the way for its successor, the InvestEU programme, which is to be deployed under the 2021-2027 multiannual financial framework. This publication details why the programme was such a success.

Book The Great Reset

Download or read book The Great Reset written by Floriana Cerniglia and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2021-11-26 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely and insightful collection of essays written by economists from a range of academic and policy institutes explores the subject of public investment through two avenues. The first examines public investment trends and needs in Europe, addressing the initiatives taken by European governments to tackle the COVID-19 recession and to rebuild their economies. The second identifies key domains where European public investment is needed to build a more sustainable Europe, from climate change to human capital formation. Building on the 2020 edition, The Great Reset demonstrates the value of public capital both within European countries and as a European public good, shedding light on the impact that the NextGenerationEU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility will likely have on the macroeconomic structure of the European economy. The first part of the Outlook assesses the state of public investment in Europe at large, as well as focusing on five countries (France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain) as case studies. The second part focuses on the challenges posed by the pandemic and the pillars of the NextGenerationEU investment plan, with chapters ranging from education and digitalization, to territorial cohesion and green transition. This book is a must-read for economists, policymakers, and scholars interested in the impact and recovery of European countries during a time of extensive uncertainty.

Book Economic and Budgetary Outlook for the European Union 2018

Download or read book Economic and Budgetary Outlook for the European Union 2018 written by Alessandro D'Alfonso and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides an overview of the economic and budgetary outlook for the European Union (EU) in 2018 and beyond. It summarises the main economic indicators in the EU and euro area, and their two-year trends. Economic projections point to robust growth, easing in the future, and falling unemployment. Risks are broadly balanced, but both internal and external challenges persist and may weaken economic recovery. A special 'economic focus' aims to provide a bird's eye view of industry and industrial policy in Europe, and provides an overview of various recent EU-level initiatives. Industry, which is particularly important for generating growth and which provides one in five jobs in the EU, is on a positive path with growing value added, output and employment. The study also explains the annual EU Budget, provides an overview of its main headings for 2018, and sets out the wider budgetary framework - the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) - currently covering the years 2014 to 2020. Amounting to €160.1 billion, the 2018 EU Budget focuses on priorities such as promoting sustainable growth, creating employment, especially for young people, and addressing migration and security challenges. While representing only some 1 % of the area's gross national income, the EU Budget has features that increase its overall impact, including the significant share of resources devoted to investment. The debate on the future of the EU Budget, which gained momentum in 2017, should lead to proposals for a post-2020 MFF and reform of the EU ́s financing system, which the European Commission is expected to table in May 2018.

Book World Economic Outlook October 2022

Download or read book World Economic Outlook October 2022 written by International Monetary and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global economic activity is experiencing a broad-based and sharper-than-expected slowdown, with inflation higher than seen in several decades. The cost-of-living crisis, tightening financial conditions in most regions, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the lingering COVID-19 pandemic all weigh heavily on the outlook. Global growth is forecast to slow from 6.0 percent in 2021 to 3.2 percent in 2022 and 2.7 percent in 2023. This is the weakest growth profile since 2001 except for the global financial crisis and the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Global inflation is forecast to rise from 4.7 percent in 2021 to 8.8 percent in 2022 but to decline to 6.5 percent in 2023 and to 4.1 percent by 2024. Monetary policy should stay the course to restore price stability, and fiscal policy should aim to alleviate the cost-of-living pressures while maintaining a sufficiently tight stance aligned with monetary policy. Structural reforms can further support the fight against inflation by improving productivity and easing supply constraints, while multilateral cooperation is necessary for fast-tracking the green energy transition and preventing fragmentation.
