Book It s Stochastic Calculus and Probability Theory

Download or read book It s Stochastic Calculus and Probability Theory written by Nobuyuki Ikeda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Kiyosi Ito is well known as the creator of the modern theory of stochastic analysis. Although Ito first proposed his theory, now known as Ito's stochastic analysis or Ito's stochastic calculus, about fifty years ago, its value in both pure and applied mathematics is becoming greater and greater. For almost all modern theories at the forefront of probability and related fields, Ito's analysis is indispensable as an essential instrument, and it will remain so in the future. For example, a basic formula, called the Ito formula, is well known and widely used in fields as diverse as physics and economics. This volume contains 27 papers written by world-renowned probability theorists. Their subjects vary widely and they present new results and ideas in the fields where stochastic analysis plays an important role. Also included are several expository articles by well-known experts surveying recent developments. Not only mathematicians but also physicists, biologists, economists and researchers in other fields who are interested in the effectiveness of stochastic theory will find valuable suggestions for their research. In addition, students who are beginning their study and research in stochastic analysis and related fields will find instructive and useful guidance here. This volume is dedicated to Professor Ito on the occasion of his eightieth birthday as a token of deep appreciation for his great achievements and contributions. An introduction to and commentary on the scientific works of Professor Ito are also included.

Book Global Analysis on Open Manifolds

Download or read book Global Analysis on Open Manifolds written by Jürgen Eichhorn and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global analysis is the analysis on manifolds. Since the middle of the sixties there exists a highly elaborated setting if the underlying manifold is compact, evidence of which can be found in index theory, spectral geometry, the theory of harmonic maps, many applications to mathematical physics on closed manifolds like gauge theory, Seiberg-Witten theory, etc. If the underlying manifold is open, i.e. non-compact and without boundary, then most of the foundations and of the great achievements fail. Elliptic operators are no longer Fredholm, the analytical and topological indexes are not defined, the spectrum of self-adjoint elliptic operators is no longer discrete, functional spaces strongly depend on the operators involved and the data from geometry, many embedding and module structure theorems do not hold, manifolds of maps are not defined, etc. It is the goal of this new book to provide serious foundations for global analysis on open manifolds, to discuss the difficulties and special features which come from the openness and to establish many results and applications on this basis.

  • Pages : 634 pages

Download or read book Stochastic Analysis written by Michael Craig Cranston and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with current developments in stochastic analysis and its interfaces with partial differential equations, dynamical systems, mathematical physics, differential geometry, and infinite-dimensional analysis. The origins of stochastic analysis can be found in Norbert Wiener's construction of Brownian motion and Kiyosi Itô's subsequent development of stochastic integration and the closely related theory of stochastic (ordinary) differential equations. The papers in this volume indicate the great strides that have been made in recent years, exhibiting the tremendous power and diversity of stochastic analysis while giving a clear indication of the unsolved problems and possible future directions for development. The collection represents the proceedings of the AMS Summer Institute on Stochastic Analysis, held in July 1993 at Cornell University. Many of the papers are largely expository in character while containing new results.

Book Topics in Probability and Lie Groups

Download or read book Topics in Probability and Lie Groups written by John Christopher Taylor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is comprised of two parts: the first contains articles by S. N. Evans, F. Ledrappier, and Figa-Talomanaca. These articles arose from a Centre de Recherches de Mathematiques (CRM) seminar entitiled, ''Topics in Probability on Lie Groups: Boundary Theory''. Evans gives a synthesis of his pre-1992 work on Gaussian measures on vector spaces over a local field. Ledrappier uses the freegroup on $d$ generators as a paradigm for results on the asymptotic properties of random walks and harmonic measures on the Martin boundary. These articles are followed by a case study by Figa-Talamanca using Gelfand pairs to study a diffusion on a compact ultrametric space. The second part of the book is an appendix to the book Compactifications of Symmetric Spaces (Birkhauser) by Y. Guivarc'h and J. C. Taylor. This appendix consists of an article by each author and presents the contents of this book in a more algebraic way. L. Ji and J.-P. Anker simplifies some of their results on the asymptotics of the Green function that were used to compute Martin boundaries. And Taylor gives a self-contained account of Martin boundary theory for manifolds using the theory of second order strictly elliptic partial differential operators.

Book Topics in Geometric Group Theory

Download or read book Topics in Geometric Group Theory written by Pierre de la Harpe and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2000-10-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Pierre de la Harpe provides a concise and engaging introduction to geometric group theory, a new method for studying infinite groups via their intrinsic geometry that has played a major role in mathematics over the past two decades. A recognized expert in the field, de la Harpe adopts a hands-on approach, illustrating key concepts with numerous concrete examples. The first five chapters present basic combinatorial and geometric group theory in a unique and refreshing way, with an emphasis on finitely generated versus finitely presented groups. In the final three chapters, de la Harpe discusses new material on the growth of groups, including a detailed treatment of the "Grigorchuk group." Most sections are followed by exercises and a list of problems and complements, enhancing the book's value for students; problems range from slightly more difficult exercises to open research problems in the field. An extensive list of references directs readers to more advanced results as well as connections with other fields.

Book Fractals in Graz 2001

Download or read book Fractals in Graz 2001 written by Peter Grabner and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the conference "Fractals in Graz 2001 - Analysis, Dynamics, Geometry, Stochastics" that was held in the second week of June 2001 at Graz University of Technology, in the capital of Styria, southeastern province of Austria. The scientific committee of the meeting consisted of M. Barlow (Vancouver), R. Strichartz (Ithaca), P. Grabner and W. Woess (both Graz), the latter two being the local organizers and editors of this volume. We made an effort to unite in the conference as well as in the present pro ceedings a multitude of different directions of active current work, and to bring together researchers from various countries as well as research fields that all are linked in some way with the modern theory of fractal structures. Although (or because) in Graz there is only a very small group working on fractal structures, consisting of "non-insiders", we hope to have been successful with this program of wide horizons. All papers were written upon explicit invitation by the editors, and we are happy to be able to present this representative panorama of recent work on poten tial theory, random walks, spectral theory, fractal groups, dynamic systems, fractal geometry, and more. The papers presented here underwent a refereeing process.

Book Operator Theory And Analysis Of Infinite Networks

Download or read book Operator Theory And Analysis Of Infinite Networks written by Palle Jorgensen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume considers resistance networks: large graphs which are connected, undirected, and weighted. Such networks provide a discrete model for physical processes in inhomogeneous media, including heat flow through perforated or porous media. These graphs also arise in data science, e.g., considering geometrizations of datasets, statistical inference, or the propagation of memes through social networks. Indeed, network analysis plays a crucial role in many other areas of data science and engineering. In these models, the weights on the edges may be understood as conductances, or as a measure of similarity. Resistance networks also arise in probability, as they correspond to a broad class of Markov chains. The present volume takes the nonstandard approach of analyzing resistance networks from the point of view of Hilbert space theory, where the inner product is defined in terms of Dirichlet energy. The resulting viewpoint emphasizes orthogonality over convexity and provides new insights into the connections between harmonic functions, operators, and boundary theory. Novel applications to mathematical physics are given, especially in regard to the question of self-adjointness of unbounded operators.New topics are covered in a host of areas accessible to multiple audiences, at both beginning and more advanced levels. This is accomplished by directly linking diverse applied questions to such key areas of mathematics as functional analysis, operator theory, harmonic analysis, optimization, approximation theory, and probability theory.
