Charlie, playing me, nears top then slips, And rolls down over the rail road, Just missing the chugging engine. Ive repeated that pointless effort, So many times in my life across Risky paths that looked deceptively safe.

Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of years of struggle not just in life but in learning how to hone my craft, such as it is, and create something that I’m assuming others would want to read. When I was honorably discharged from the navy, I found myself in the situation where none of the people I came home to had any idea of what I went through. There was a pressure in my head and my heart that I did not know how to release until I wrote my first poem. I hold feelings in, and I don’t know how to articulate what’s going on. But that first poem opened a door, and I gladly stepped in. Some of my earliest poems are not in this book because they failed the test of time and several moves and bad choices in storage. Some were rewritten to a certain point or they just diverged as my skills grew. Some are dedicated to my wife, Kerri, and the meeting, greeting, wooing, sharing and the painful exit where I was forced to say goodbye.

Download or read book An Eclectic Collage written by Tom Hodges and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-29 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Eclectic Collage is a collection of poems that studies not only the vicissitudes of the natural world but that of humanity, as well. His most challenging subjects are men and women and the interactions between the two, although there is something equally mesmerizing about the changing foliage of fall from green to oranges and reds. Some poems are abstract, while others speak with clear intent. There is lightheartedness and levity but also serious depth and the occasionally tragic. The words sometimes inspire readers to make their own conclusions, but every word is an impression left behind, meant to be discovered and, if not understood, then at least admired.
