Book 47 Easy to Do Classic Science Experiments

Download or read book 47 Easy to Do Classic Science Experiments written by Eugene F. Provenzo and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-07-31 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a highly motivating book for grade-school students that will introduce them to many of the world's most popular (and historically significant) scientific experiments. They'll learn about gravity simply by following the acrobatic antics of an ordinary coin. By trying to blow an egg out of a cup, they'll discover the principles of air pressure. Dancing soap bubbles will help them understand the effects of static electricity, and by dropping quarters into a full glass of water without causing it to overflow, they'll study the effects of surface tension. These and over 40 other experiments have been carefully selected by noted educators Eugene and Asterie Baker Provenzo to familiarize children with classic science experiments involving optics, inertia, air pressure, magnetism, sound, topology, light, density, vibration, prisms, elasticity, gases, vacuum, perspective, geometry, centrifugal force, buoyancy, color, and much more. Some experiments, such as the optical "Newton's Rings" are hundreds of years old. Still others, like the straw lever test, are based on Greek experiments with leverage and the center of gravity — first carried out thousands of years ago. Easy-to-follow instructions and illustrations show youngsters how to perform each experiment, most of which are prefaced with historical background, a list of necessary materials and an explanation of key terms. Almost all experiments can be carried out with common household items (tissue paper, scissors, tapes, rubber balloons, pens, pencils, etc.) and can be worked at home or in the classroom to demonstrate specific scientific principles or to supplement a science-curriculum unit. Sources for all historical illustrations given in the text are listed at the end of the book.

Book Easy Experiments in Physical Science

Download or read book Easy Experiments in Physical Science written by Le Roy C. Cooley and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Easy Experiments in Physical Science: For Oral Instruction in Common Schools It is coming to be very generally believed by educators that one of the most important aims of primary instruction should be to discipline the child to habits of quick and accurate observation, and to the power of making simple but correct inferences from the facts which his senses reveal. Surely this result can be reached more easily by means of those facts which nature communicates through the senses than by subjects which have no natural dependence upon material forms; and hence the superior adaptation of the simple facts of physical science to the wants of common-school instruction. But the only way to strengthen mind is to make it work. If the senses arc to be developed and disciplined, the child must he allowed, and, if need be, compelled, to use its senses for himself. The teacher is to guide him, but not to carry him. His mind is to he directed toward material things, and taught to see their forms and characters as they themselves present them. The instructor is to be his guide, but Nature is herself to be his teacher. The intelligent teachers of common-schools are eagerly asking how can this theory he wrought into practice. This book was released on 2017-05-10 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Experiments in Elementary Science, Vol. 1 of 2 Method. The manipulation indicated is such as to lead directly from Purpose to Conclusion, and it is suggested that all temptation to make more than the fewest possible motions in demonstrating be resisted. A formal write-up of the Method contains a record of all that was done, and all that was seen by the student, but nothing more; it is complete enough to be intelligible throughout to anybody who may read the write-up without seeing the experiment performed. There is apt to be a tendency, on the student's part, to take certain things for granted as being too obvious to require recounting, but such scamping of important written work should be discouraged. Conclusions. The conclusions should follow the suggestions contained in the questions under that heading in the stu dent's manual, and should be complete statements of the inferences drawn from the Method or demonstration. Book Elementary Physics and Chemistry

Download or read book Elementary Physics and Chemistry written by Richard Arman Gregory and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Physics and Chemistry: First Stage A few words will explain the scope and purpose of this little book. In 1898 a course of elementary physics and chemistry was introduced into the Code of the Education Department as a specific subject in which instruction could be given in the upper standards of elementary schools. The syllabus is divided into three parts, and the first of these is here dealt with. The course is well adapted for experimental work by indi vidual children, and, as it forms a satisfactory introduction to the study of science, it is suitable for the lower forms of secondary schools as well as for pupils in the upper standards of elementary schools. Every teacher now understands the importance of practical exercises in all scientific instruction, however elementary. Unfortunately, it is not as yet always possible to provide accommodation and apparatus sufficient to enable individual pupils to experiment. This difficulty has been borne in mind in designing the form of the following lessons, each of which is divided into two parts - the first consisting of instructions for the performance of simple experiments, the second of explanations of the principles taught by the practical work. Book Elementary Physics and Chemistry Second Stage Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elementary Physics and Chemistry Second Stage Classic Reprint written by R. A. Gregory and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Physics and Chemistry Second Stage This book is the second of three little volumes containing a course of experimental work on the elementary principles of Physics and Chemistry. A knowledge of the scientific meaning of such facts of ordinary experience as are described and examined in this and the two companion volumes ought to be possessed by everyone. Wherever the study of science is being commenced, it should be through the consideration of the properties of familiar things: for this is the best way to encourage an intelligent interest in scientific reasons and results. The course of work here followed is thus as suitable for the lower forms of secondary schools as for schools of other grades. The value of practical exercises in all scientific instruction, however elementary, is now so widely recognised that it is almost unnecessary to advise that the experiments described in each lesson should be actually performed. Unfortunately, it is not often possible to provide accommodation and apparatus sufficient to enable individual pupils to experiment. This difficulty has been borne in mind in designing the form of the following lessons, each of which is divided into two parts - the first consisting of instructions for the performance of simple experiments, the second of explanations of the principles taught by the practical work. When circumstances permit, every pupil should perform the experiments, and when this is impossible he should see them done by someone else. Download or read book Easy Experiments for Schools and Families written by A. R. Horne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Easy Experiments for Schools and Families: With Home-Made Apparatus The author of these few pages on Experimentation with out costly apparatus, has felt the want of a cheap treatise on the subject, giving directions to teachers and others how to illustrate some of the important principles of natural science, by simple experiments. He has waited from year to year, heping that some one more competent than he might prepare a small volume on the subject. But while he waited in vain, he also felt that precious time and opportunities were lost, and that however imperfect, some directions of the kind here pre sented were better than none. He has also found by experi ence, in his school work of a quarter of a century, that there is nothing so well calculated to interest the young in the study of science, and to beget a taste for scientific research, as mak ing these simple experiments in the schoolroom, and even delegating the work to some members of the school. He has had the satisfaction of observing how his experimenting over a bucket full of water, twenty-five years ago, has resulted in producing some of the best and most practical scientists in the land, who, from the day that their interest was aroused, in this way. In the study of science, have pursued the study and attained efficiency and distinction. These few pages are submitted to parents, teachers and pupils, in the hope that similar and even greater good may be accomplished by the circulation of this volume, than by his oral instruction and lectures in schools and institutes, We are under obligations to Prof. G. Dallas Lind, Our Bodies, T/ie Scientific A me: ican, and others for assistance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
