Eighty-four manuscripts and four printed editions survive from before 1500, and there is no scholarly agreement on which of these best represents what Chaucer left. The Canterbury Tales Project is transcribing all these into electronic form, comparing the transcripts by computer methods, analyzing the results of the comparison by a variety of means (including techniques drawn from evolutionary biology) and then publishing all this in electronic form. This site provides transcriptions and facsimiles of the manuscripts.
