Book Bedford County Tennessee Wills and Vital Records from Newspapers

Download or read book Bedford County Tennessee Wills and Vital Records from Newspapers written by Helen Crawford Marsh and published by . This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wills, probate and settlement records of Bedford County sufferd severe losses in the courthouse fire that occurred in the late fall of 1863. With the exception of about six wills that were registered and recorded in the early 1860's all wills were destroyed in the fire. All wills recorded after the Civil War are intact and abstracts of them, up to 1910, are reproduced in this publication. In addition, we have stepped back in time and included all probate records from the Marsh's private collection that they have gleaned from the Chancery Court Records, Deed Books, and the earliest County Court Minutes that survived the fire, spanning the years 1848 to 1860. The Chancery Court Records are of special interest and value as they were reconstructed as the product of the Chancery Court action. They often approach the originals in detail and substance. The second section of this book, entitled: "Vital Records from Newspapers" represents a valuable companion to the first section, placing in the hands of the researcher a broad and useful tool to be used in the research of Bedford County family history. Hundreds of Bedford County marriages, deaths, and events of local interest were abstracted from all available area newspapers and included in this section.

Download or read book Early Unpublished Court Records of Lincoln County Tennessee written by Timothy Richard Marsh and published by Southern Historical Press, Incorporated. This book was released on 1993-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This middle Tennessee County was formed in 1809 out of Indian Lands. From the year 1799, with the formation of Williamson County, Tennessee, the most western third of what was to become Lincoln County in 1809, was then a part of Williamson County, and so until 1807 the eastern two thirds of the area was a part of Rutherford County. And from Dec. 3, 1807 until Nov. 14, 1809, Lincoln was the southern half of Bedford County. These records are a potpourri of early miscellaneous loose court records which have never been published nor microfilmed by the State of Tennessee. These records contain: Guardianship reports and settlements, first land deeds called "The Clerks List," which lists many of the early Grantees and Grantors not recorded in the regular deed index. Also included are early Tax lists before 1830 giving the names of taxable, acreage of deeded and Granted land plus location of same. These miscellaneous records cover the time period of 1809 to about 1840. For the person with lost ancestors in Lincoln county, these records may provide the answer to long sought after forbears.

Book Jackson County Tennessee Court Transcripts

Download or read book Jackson County Tennessee Court Transcripts written by Pat Spurlock and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are few early Jackson County records due to the August 1872 courthouse fire. This volume is an abstraction of original records on microfilm at the Tennessee State Library and Archives as found on Jackson County Microfilm Reel 43. No pertinent information was omitted—only occasional redundant legalese. In many cases, the entire record is given. After 30 years studying Jackson County families and living nearby, the transcriber believes this work is as accurate as possible. The intention was to transcribe or abstract the cases as set out by the court records, some of which contain sensitive information. Everything considered to be of genealogical value or interest was retained and nothing beats personal testimony. The characters and personalities of many early Jackson Countians are revealed in these detailed testimonies. Such things are important in filling the gaps in family history created by using only dates and place. Spelling and grammatical errors were retained.
