Both traditional and nontraditional exports increased sharply in 1995/96 and 1996/97 as agricultural and manufacturing production responded to the reforms; however, exports fell again in 1997/98, owing initially to drought and subsequently the floods associated with the El Nino phenomenon. The external position strengthened during the last two years as the deficit on the current account of the balance of payments (excluding transfers) declined and international reserves rebounded to the equivalent of three months of imports of goods and nonfactor services.

Book KOLADE S CANONS 3

Download or read book KOLADE S CANONS 3 written by Christopher Kolade and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kolade’s Canons are published in three volumes containing what might best be described as Christopher Kolade’s ecclesiastical declarations over the last 40 years. The volumes contain first-class materials, based on highly cherished African values with foundations in universal principles, from a first-class mind. This volume, Kolade’s Canons 3, is devoted entirely to Broadcasting, Christopher Kolade’s second career start up. In the first volume, Kolade’s Canons 1, he focuses on People, Leadership and Management, and directs readers to management and leadership principles which, if put into practice can lead to the transformation of individuals, enterprises and nations. The second volume, Kolade’s Canons 2, focuses on Business and Economy, Nation Building and Ethics. Without sound ethics builders of lives, organisations or nations build on a false foundation. The volumes are not textbooks but a collection of a refined gentleman’s speeches and teachings. They provide teachers, students, policy makers and policy executors deep insights to think and talk about, as well as test in the arena of practice. The earliest papers date back 40 years, yet they remain relevant because they are principles-based; and because Dr Kolade was also thinking for future generations.

Download or read book Listening In written by Mary Vipond and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1992-09-28 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Vipond's approach is based on the idea that the development of radio broadcasting was a process that involved equipment manufacturers, broadcasters, and "audiences/customers." She charts the expansion of these three groups, surveys the development of advertising and networking as methods of financing, and analyses the evolution of programming. From 1922 to 1932, radio administration was the responsibility of the Radio Branch of the federal Department of Marine and Fisheries. Vipond discusses the regulatory policies of the branch. She completes her study with an analysis of the period from the formation of the Aird Royal Commission on Radio Broadcasting in 1928 to the passage of the Radio Broadcasting Act of 1932. Between 1922 and 1932, virtually all Canadian broadcasting was in the private sector. The campaign in the early 1930s to institute a broadcasting system oriented more toward public service and the promotion of a national identity was partially successful. Vipond reveals, however, that the act that in 1932 set up the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, now the CBC, was much weaker than has generally been recognized. She argues that this weakness was a consequence of the fact that, over the course of the 1920s, broadcasters, listeners, and politicians alike had built up certain expectations of radio which could not easily be disregarded.
