Book On the Dynamics of Atmospheric Entry and Reentry

Download or read book On the Dynamics of Atmospheric Entry and Reentry written by John D. C. Crisp and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An earlier report presented a method for the numerical analysis of the dynamics of a small vehicle moving in a gravitational force field inside and outside a spherical, nonrotating planetary atmosphere. The method is based on an adaptation of the instantaneous conic concept and apart from computational advantages provides a simple and apparent physical understanding of the effects of atmospheric forces. It is the purpose of this report to give a detailed discussion of the application of the method and to elaborate the physical interpretation as a preliminary to the presentation in subsequent reports of the results of several hundred trajectories. These results will include the effects of coupled lift-drag modulation, acceleration limitation, temperature limitation during entry, multiple reentry and high eccentricity entry trajectories of a variety of realistic vehicle configurations. Book Design of Trajectory Optimization Approach for Space Maneuver Vehicle Skip Entry Problems

Download or read book Design of Trajectory Optimization Approach for Space Maneuver Vehicle Skip Entry Problems written by Runqi Chai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the design of optimal trajectories for space maneuver vehicles (SMVs) using optimal control-based techniques. It begins with a comprehensive introduction to and overview of three main approaches to trajectory optimization, and subsequently focuses on the design of a novel hybrid optimization strategy that combines an initial guess generator with an improved gradient-based inner optimizer. Further, it highlights the development of multi-objective spacecraft trajectory optimization problems, with a particular focus on multi-objective transcription methods and multi-objective evolutionary algorithms. In its final sections, the book studies spacecraft flight scenarios with noise-perturbed dynamics and probabilistic constraints, and designs and validates new chance-constrained optimal control frameworks. The comprehensive and systematic treatment of practical issues in spacecraft trajectory optimization is one of the book’s major features, making it particularly suited for readers who are seeking practical solutions in spacecraft trajectory optimization. It offers a valuable asset for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in GNC systems, engineering optimization, applied optimal control theory, etc.

Book Rigid Body Dynamics for Space Applications

Download or read book Rigid Body Dynamics for Space Applications written by Vladimir Aslanov and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2017-04-22 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rigid Body Dynamics for Space Applications explores the modern problems of spaceflight mechanics, such as attitude dynamics of re-entry and space debris in Earth's atmosphere; dynamics and control of coaxial satellite gyrostats; deployment, dynamics, and control of a tether-assisted return mission of a re-entry capsule; and removal of large space debris by a tether tow. Most space systems can be considered as a system of rigid bodies, with additional elastic and viscoelastic elements and fuel residuals in some cases. This guide shows the nature of the phenomena and explains the behavior of space objects. Researchers working on spacecraft attitude dynamics or space debris removal as well as those in the fields of mechanics, aerospace engineering, and aerospace science will benefit from this book. Provides a complete treatise of modeling attitude for a range of novel and modern attitude control problems of spaceflight mechanics Features chapters on the application of rigid body dynamics to atmospheric re-entries, tethered assisted re-entry, and tethered space debris removal Shows relatively simple ways of constructing mathematical models and analytical solutions describing the behavior of very complex material systems Uses modern methods of regular and chaotic dynamics to obtain results

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manned Spacecraft Design Principles presents readers with a brief, to-the-point primer that includes a detailed introduction to the information required at the preliminary design stage of a manned space transportation system. In the process of developing the preliminary design, the book covers content not often discussed in a standard aerospace curriculum, including atmospheric entry dynamics, space launch dynamics, hypersonic flow fields, hypersonic heat transfer, and skin friction, along with the economic aspects of space flight. Key concepts relating to human factors and crew support systems are also included, providing users with a comprehensive guide on how to make informed choices from an array of competing options. The text can be used in conjunction with Pasquale Sforza's, Commercial Aircraft Design Principles to form a complete course in Aircraft/Spacecraft Design. Presents a brief, to-the-point primer that includes a detailed introduction to the information required at the preliminary design stage of a manned space transportation system Involves the reader in the preliminary design of a modern manned spacecraft and associated launch vehicle Includes key concepts relating to human factors and crew support systems Contains standard, empirical, and classical methods in support of the design process Culminates in the preparation of a professional quality design report

Book Atmosphere Ocean and Climate Dynamics

Download or read book Atmosphere Ocean and Climate Dynamics written by John Marshall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1978-11-16 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in atmospheric, oceanic, and climate science, Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Dynamics is an introductory textbook on the circulations of the atmosphere and ocean and their interaction, with an emphasis on global scales. It will give students a good grasp of what the atmosphere and oceans look like on the large-scale and why they look that way. The role of the oceans in climate and paleoclimate is also discussed. The combination of observations, theory and accompanying illustrative laboratory experiments sets this text apart by making it accessible to students with no prior training in meteorology or oceanography. * Written at a mathematical level that is appealing for undergraduates and beginning graduate students * Provides a useful educational tool through a combination of observations and laboratory demonstrations which can be viewed over the web * Contains instructions on how to reproduce the simple but informative laboratory experiments * Includes copious problems (with sample answers) to help students learn the material.
