Book The Dynamics of Violence and Revenge in the Hebrew Book of Esther

Download or read book The Dynamics of Violence and Revenge in the Hebrew Book of Esther written by Francisco-Javier Ruiz-Ortiz and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a thematic study of an integral part of the Hebrew text of Esther, namely, violence. In The Dynamics of Violence and Revenge in the Hebrew Book of Esther, Francisco-Javier Ruiz-Ortiz makes the first ever monographic research on the topics of hostility and the mechanisms of revenge as expressed by the author of the Hebrew book of Esther. The present book is divided into two parts consisting of three chapters each. After an introductory chapter reviewing previous studies on the book of Esther, the author analyses the main vocabulary of violence and revenge in this biblical text before studying the narrative of Esther from the point of view of violence. The results of these two avenues of research are then applied on three pericopes which are representative of the dynamics of violence. Each of the chosen texts illustrates how violence and revenge are used by the author to express the message of survival and the importance of the Jewish people.

Book Dynamics of Teaching and Learning Modern Hebrew as an Additional Language

Download or read book Dynamics of Teaching and Learning Modern Hebrew as an Additional Language written by Yona Gilead and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Dynamics of Teaching and Learning Modern Hebrew as an Additional Language Yona Gilead presents original research into classroom interactional practices by offering a thick description of a successful beginner-level Modern Hebrew program at an Australian university. The book charts and theorizes the cohort’s teacher and students’ trajectory of using Hebrew as the main means of instructing and acquiring the language, and highlights seven key features which contribute to students’ learning. The book’s research-based findings and analysis of classroom dynamics contribute to theorizing the currently largely praxis-based discipline of L2 Modern Hebrew instruction, hence providing a stronger theoretical understanding of how and why students can be assisted in their language learning. This original research provides a template for renewed L2 Hebrew research.

Book The Dynamics of Human Life in the Bible

Download or read book The Dynamics of Human Life in the Bible written by Martin J. Buss and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-04-06 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Dynamics of Human Life in the Bible: Receptivity and Power, Martin J. Buss describes the dynamics of human life that are encouraged in the Bible and how biblical guidance compares with other religious traditions. The dynamics include both receptivity (“from” another) and power (“for” or “over” another), often in combination (“with” another). For example, love joins receptive cognition of worth with energetic support. Receptivity, the only way to deal with fundamental values, seeks material and religious benefits and is the human side of revelation and salvation. Public acknowledgement strengthens divine influence. Furthermore, receptivity accepts challenges. These include individual and social growth and semi-identification with others, which has societal rather than concrete individual consequences. Power is crucial in legal remedies and penalties. Life with others is important in practical “wisdom” and in Christian “mutual love.” Buss finds that biblical directives parallel those of non-Christian religious traditions. This situation is in line with biblical views of general revelation and developments in history.

Book Dynamic Studies in Romans

Download or read book Dynamic Studies in Romans written by Fred A. Scheeren and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars and students alike have hailed the book of Romans as one of the greatest single literary works of all time. When you consider that it is also the Word of God, it makes the study of his remarkable book all the more valuable for help in day-to-day living. Relying on the truth that Scripture is the best commentary on Scripture, author Fred Scheeren walks us through Romans by tracing the concepts and promises found in this awe-inspiring book through the New and Old Testaments. If you've ever wondered about: how to access the grace of God; how to walk victoriously in the Spirit; what it means to be "grafted" in as a believer; what it means to be heart-circumcised; the role and meaning of baptism in a believer's life; or how to avoid error when studying the Scriptures ......then you won't want to miss this Bible study guide. Better yet, find a group of like-minded friends to join you in creating a small study-group experience. Such a collection of people might also quite appropriately be called a "life group," as the members do more than enhance their knowledge of Scripture. They develop close, personal relationships as they apply God's Word to their lives and support each other in the positive growth they experience as a result.

Book The Dynamics of Biblical Parallelism

Download or read book The Dynamics of Biblical Parallelism written by Adele Berlin and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years scholars of biblical poetry have defined parallelism as the simple correspondence of one verse, phrase, or word with another. In this book, Adele Berlin approaches biblical parallelism as a linguistic phenomenon, as a complex interplay among all aspects of language. Her goal is to get at the basics of what biblical parallelism is and how it works. Berlin's examination of the grammatical, lexical, semantic, phonetic, structural, and psychological aspects of parallelism yields an elegantly simple model that reveals the complex workings of this phenomenon. Her book will be a valuable guide for both scholars and students of biblical poetry.

Book Usage Based Studies in Modern Hebrew

Download or read book Usage Based Studies in Modern Hebrew written by Ruth A. Berman and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of the volume is to shed fresh light on Modern Hebrew from perspectives aimed at readers interested in the domains of general linguistics, typology, and Semitic studies. Starting with chapters that provide background information on the evolution and sociolinguistic setting of the language, the bulk of the book is devoted to usage-based studies of the morphology, lexicon, and syntax of current Hebrew. Based primarily on original analyses of authentic spoken and online materials, these studies reflect varied theoretical frames-of-reference that are largely model-neutral in approach. To this end, the book presents a functionally motivated, dynamic approach to actual usage, rather than providing strictly structuralist or formal characterizations of particular linguistic systems. Such a perspective is particularly important in the case of a language undergoing accelerated processes of change, in which the gap between prescriptive dictates of the Hebrew Language Establishment and the actual usage of educated, literate but non-expert speaker-writers of current Hebrew is constantly on the rise.
