Book Dynamic Psychology in Modernist British Fiction

Download or read book Dynamic Psychology in Modernist British Fiction written by G. Johnson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-10-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Psychology in Modernist British Fiction argues that literary critics have tended to distort the impact of pre-Freudian psychological discourses, including psychical research, on Modern British Fiction. Psychoanalysis has received undue attention over a more typical British eclecticism, embraced by now-forgotten figures including Frederic Myers and William McDougall. This project focuses on the Edwardian novelists most fully engaged by dynamic psychology, May Sinclair, and J.D. Beresford, but also reconsiders Arnold Bennett and D.H. Lawrence. The book concludes by demonstrating Woolf's subtle assimilation of pre-Freudian discourse.

Book The Psychology and Dynamics Behind Social Media Interactions

Download or read book The Psychology and Dynamics Behind Social Media Interactions written by Desjarlais, Malinda and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-07-26 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescents and young adults are the main users of social media. This has sparked interest among researchers regarding the effects of social media on normative development. There exists a need for an edited collection that will provide readers with both breadth and depth on the impacts of social media on normative development and social media as an amplifier of positive and negative behaviors. The Psychology and Dynamics Behind Social Media Interactions is an essential reference book that focuses on current social media research and provides insight into the benefits and detriments of social media through the lens of psychological theories. It enhances the understanding of current research regarding the antecedents to social media use and problematic use, effects of use for identity formation, mental and physical health, and relationships (friendships and romantic and family relationships) in addition to implications for education and support groups. Intended to aid in collaborative research opportunities, this book is ideal for clinicians, educators, researchers, councilors, psychologists, and social workers.

Book Psychology and Mental Health

Download or read book Psychology and Mental Health written by James Arthur Hadfield and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-02-11 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1950, Psychology and Mental Health describes the origin of behaviour disorders and the psychoneuroses especially as regards their causes in early childhood. Most psychologists agree that such disorders as hysteria, sex perversion, the obsessions and anxiety states, as well as many behaviour disorders and delinquencies, find their roots in childhood experiences. If this is the case it should be possible to prevent them from developing into full-blown neurotic disorders which may take years to cure. The purpose of this book is to describe the early causes of these disorders with a view to their treatment, but more particularly with a view to their prevention. As mental health is the concern not only of the doctor but of the parson and the priest, of the teacher and the parent, this book is written in non-technical language as far as the demands of accuracy will allow. It embodies the result of over thirty years’ experience in the treatment of patients suffering from these disorders, and the views here maintained, which differ somewhat from the other analytic schools, are illustrated with clinical examples throughout. This book is a reissue originally published in 1950. The language used reflects its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this republication.

Book Contemporary Theories and Systems in Psychology

Download or read book Contemporary Theories and Systems in Psychology written by Benjamin B. Wolman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty years is a long time in the life of a science. While the historical roots of psychology have not changed since the first edition of this book, some of the offshoots of the various theories and systems discussed have been crit ically reexamined and have undergone far-reaching modifications. New and bold research has led to a broadening of perspectives, and recent devel opments in several areas required a considerable amount of rewriting. I have been fortunate in the last fifteen years to have worked with about 2,000 psychologists and other behavioral scientists who contributed to several collected volumes I have edited. As the editor-in-chief of the In ternational Encyclopedia of Psychiatry, Psychology, Psychoanalysis and Neurol ogy, I have had the privilege of reading, scrutinizing, and editing the work of 1,500 experts in psychology and related disciplines. In addition, I have written several books and monographs and over one hundred scientific papers. Armed with all that experience, I have carefully examined the pages of the first edition. Chapter 8 required substantial rewriting and several new sections have been added to other chapters: "Current Soviet Psychol ogy" (Chapter 2, Section 7); "New Ideas on Purposivism" (Chapter 5, Sec tion 4); "Recent Developments in the Sociological School of Psychoanalysis" (Chapter 9, Section 4); and "Present Status of Gestalt Psychology" (Chapter 12, Section 4). Chapter 15 was omitted, and two new chapters were added: Chapter 14 ("Humanistic Psychology") and Chapter 16 ("Selected Research Areas").

Book A Primer Of Freudian Psychology

Download or read book A Primer Of Freudian Psychology written by Prof. Calvin S. Hall and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-28 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BASICS OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR Absorbing, easy to read and understand, here is a fascinating presentation of Freud’s principal theories on psychology. Culled from forty years of writing by the founder of psychoanalysis, this is the first book which gives, in a comprehensive and systematic form, Freud’s thinking on the organization, dynamics and development of the normal human personality. Calvin S. Hall outlines Freud’s penetrating diagnosis of the balances existing between the mind and emotions, and points out his important discoveries about the parts played by instincts, the conscious and unconscious, and anxiety in the functioning of the human psyche. In discussing the elements that form personality, the author explains the ideas of the pioneer thinker in psychology on defense mechanisms, the channeling of instinctual drives, and the role of sex in the boy and girl maturing into man and woman. Lucid, illuminating and instructive, this is an important book for everyone who wants to understand human behavior—in himself and in others. “A Primer of Freudian Psychology is compact, readable, accurate.”—Gordon W. Allport, Professor of Psychology, Harvard University

Book The Dynamic Perspective in Personality and Social Psychology

Download or read book The Dynamic Perspective in Personality and Social Psychology written by Robin R. Vallacher and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed the ascendance of a new way to conceptualize and investigate the nature of dynamism at different levels of psychological reality. Areas of inquiry as diverse as cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, organizational behavior, and political sociology are being reframed in terms that allow rigorous and precise insight into basic dynamic processes. There are signs that this new approach to dynamics is emerging as a potentially integrative paradigm for personality and social psychology as well. This special issue highlights this new paradigm and illustrates its relevance to a broad spectrum of topics in personality and social psychology.
