This book by a range of academic, design and contracting world experts provides a review of the state-of-the-art techniques for modelling foundations using both linear and non linear numerical analysis. It applies to a range of infrastructure, civil engineering and structural engineering projects and allows designers, engineers, architects, researchers and clients to understand some of the advanced numerical techniques used in the analysis and design of foundations. Topics include: Ground vibrations caused by trains Pile-group effects Bearing capacity of shallow foundations under static and seismic conditions Bucket foundation technology for offshore oilfields Seismically induced liquefaction in earth embankment foundations and in pile foundations Free vibrations of industrial chimneys and TV towers with flexibility of the soil Settlements of high rise structures Seepage, stress fields and dynamic responses in dams Site investigation

Book Dynamic Nonlinear Analysis of Pile Foundations Using Finite Element Method in the Time Domain

Download or read book Dynamic Nonlinear Analysis of Pile Foundations Using Finite Element Method in the Time Domain written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quasi-three-dimensional method of analysis is presented for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of single piles and pile groups. The analysis is performed in the time domain using strain-dependent moduli and damping, yielding at failure, and a no-tension cutoff. The analysis has been incorporated into the computer program PILE-3D and has been validated using data from centrifuge tests on a single pile and a 2 X 2 pile group under simulated earthquake loading. Analyses of the centrifuge tests demonstrated a significant reduction in soil moduli around the piles during strong shaking and a corresponding reduction in pile stiffnesses. The time-dependent shear modulus distribution in soil around the pile is obtained as part of the output. This allows the time variation of dynamic impedances of pile foundationsduring shaking to be established and allows a realistic assessment of thesingle-valued stiffnesses and damping factors usually incorporated into commercial structural analysis programs for the seismic analysis of pile-supported structures. The analysis also demonstrates the importance of inertial interaction between foundation and structure.

Book Foundation Systems for High Rise Structures

Download or read book Foundation Systems for High Rise Structures written by Rolf Katzenbach and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with the geotechnical analysis and design of foundation systems for high-rise buildings and other complex structures with a distinctive soil-structure interaction. The basics of the analysis of stability and serviceability, necessary soil investigations, important technical regulations and quality and safety assurance are explained and possibilities for optimised foundation systems are given. Additionally, special aspects of foundation systems such as geothermal activated foundation systems and the reuse of existing foundations are described and illustrated by examples from engineering practice.
