Book Stress Cracking Potential of HDPE Geogrids

Download or read book Stress Cracking Potential of HDPE Geogrids written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the development of a testing protocol to measure the potential for stress cracking of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geogrids used for soil reinforcement. The developed data demonstrate that local stress cracking in the unoriented transverse node of HDPE geogrids can occur as a result of construction-induced damage. Undamaged geogrids are not prone to stress cracking at load levels below their 100-year limiting creep load.

Book Testing Protocols for Oxidation and Hydrolysis of Geosynthetics

Download or read book Testing Protocols for Oxidation and Hydrolysis of Geosynthetics written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the development and verification of testing protocols and interpretations necessary to determine the oxidative durability of polyolefin geosynthetics and hydrolysis durability of polyester geosynthetic products. For polyolefin geosynthetics, the research findings indicate that the amount and type of antioxidant added determines the useful life in civil works. Oxidative degradation is further dependent on type of fiber, manufacturing process, and oxygen concentration of the in-use environment. For polyester geosynthetics, the hydrolytic degradation rate is a function of the molecular weight of the polymer and the pH of the in-use environment. This report is part of a comprehensive study on the "Durability of Geosynthetic Materials for Highway Applications."

Book Highway Engineering Composite Material and Its Application

Download or read book Highway Engineering Composite Material and Its Application written by Jialiang Yao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook focuses on the performance and application of highway engineering composite material. It collects and compiles the data obtained by the authors in numerous recent practical and research projects in the field of technology and application of highway engineering composite materials in China. It provides valuable reference materials for students and engineering technicians taking courses on the selection, design and construction of composite materials for highway engineering. It offers solutions to various practical engineering problems, and also includes in-depth theoretical analyses of related issues in simple language. Some of the concepts and applications, such as the highway pavement functional layer and the application of polymer composite material to protection of soft rocks, have not been previously covered in the literature before, and as such the book provides engineering and technical professionals with a new vision and new methods. Further, it not only explains the basic concepts, principles, and requirements of composite material for highway engineering, but also describes its application, including the related theoretical analyses, design and construction, making it ideal as a reference book for technical personnel, as well as a textbook for undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in highway engineering.

Book Development of Protocols for Confined Extension creep Testing of Geosynthetics for Highway Applications

Download or read book Development of Protocols for Confined Extension creep Testing of Geosynthetics for Highway Applications written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the development and verification of a testing protocol and protocol equipment for confined extension testing and confined creep testing for geosynthetic reinforcement materials. The developed data indicate that confined response significantly improves stress strain response of geosynthetic materials, especially nonwoven geotextiles. Current use of unconfined stress-strain response appears overly conservative.

Book Durability of Geosynthetics Second Edition

Download or read book Durability of Geosynthetics Second Edition written by John H. Greenwood and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a state-of-the-art review of the life-limiting mechanisms of geosynthetics, the methods available to test and assess lifetime, and the means by which durability can be improved. It provides engineers with the information they need on the durability lifetime, bridging the knowledge gap between them and polymer scientists. The style of the handbook is deliberately non-technical, in that it avoids chemical formulas and makes widespread use of graphs and photographs. Summaries are provided for most sections. It shows how to predict the service life of geosynthetics based on state-of-the-art knowledge and in some cases provides numerical examples. Engineers can use it to decide what they should specify, scientists are shown how to perform extrapolations and derive reduction factors, and assessors are given a separate section indicating how they should treat the information presented to them, including the uncertainties of the methods of testing and extrapolation. While directed primarily at geotextiles, reference is made to geomembranes and their use in landfills, for which a supplementary chapter is added. First edition awarded with the International Geosynthetics Award 2014

Book Durability of Geosynthetics Based on Accelerated Thermo Oxidation Testing

Download or read book Durability of Geosynthetics Based on Accelerated Thermo Oxidation Testing written by A. Salman and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing use of geosynthetics in civil engineering applications, the geosynthetic industry has developed new and more sophisticated materials. As improved geosynthetics are being introduced, it is necessary to assess their durability with respect to the environmental conditions that they will be exposed to. This requires the development of accelerated tests permitting the degradation prediction of geosynthetics in actual use. To address this need, a basic autooxidation scheme (BAS) has been adapted so as to develop a kinetic model for evaluating their mechanical degradation. Based on the experimental data, the model provides estimates of strength loss with time caused by thermo-oxidation.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 39 (thesis year 1994) a total of 13,953 thesis titles from 21 Canadian and 159 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 39 reports theses submitted in 1994, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
