Download or read book Non Conventional Materials and Technologies written by Khosrow Ghavami and published by Materials Research Forum LLC. This book was released on 2018-11-25 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents new research in the area of biobased “green composites”. Biobased materials involve renewable agricultural and forestry feedstocks, including wood, agricultural waste, grasses and natural plant fibers. These lignocellulosic materials are composed mainly of carbohydrates such as sugar and lignin, cellulose, vegetable oils and proteins. Much research is concerned with renewable materials such as bamboo, vegetable fibers, soil composites and recycled materials such as rice husk ash and sugar cane ash. The general aim here is to use renewable and non-polluting materials in ways that offer a high degree of sustainability and preserve the remaining natural resources for future generations. Keywords: Biobased Materials, Renewable Materials, Non-polluting Materials, Sustainability, Wood, Agricultural Waste, Grasses, Natural Plant Fibers, Lignocellulosic Materials, Carbohydrates, Sugars, Lignin, Cellulose, Vegetable Oils, Proteins, Bamboo, Vegetable Fibers, Soil Composites, Recycled Materials, Rice Husk Ash, Sugar Cane Ash, Fiber-reinforced Concrete, Post-disaster Reconstruction, Guadua Fibers, Prefabricated Bamboo Guadua Panels, Multi-Level Bamboo Structures, Alkaline Activated Cements, Polymer Residues Reinforced with Glass Fiber, Composites Reinforced with Vegetal Fibers, Sisal Fibers, Bamboo Arch Structure, Adobe Reinforced with Wheat Fibers, Fiber Reinforced Microconcrete, Cements with High Coal Waste Contents, Natural Composites, Geopolymer Concretes.
Download or read book Building Engineering Facing the Challenges of the 21st Century written by David Bienvenido-Huertas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building engineering is a complex and constantly evolving branch. The needs of the XXI century society cause a constant change in construction industry due to the need to achieve sustainable and ecological buildings. This affects all levels and phases of this engineering. Given this circumstance, numerous researchers turn their efforts to find optimal solutions for building engineering. For this reason, in this book a holistic analysis of building engineering is carried out from the perspectives that have a greater weight for sustainability objectives. The book is divided into 6 sections: (i) Building materials, which deals with research related to the most innovative and sustainable building materials; (ii) Design and construction, which deals with existing methodologies and advances in design and construction in construction sector; (iii) Building repair and maintenance, which deals with building repair, maintenance and upkeep techniques; (iv) Energy efficiency, which analyses the latest research on the energy efficiency of buildings and their behaviour in the face of climate change; (v) Sustainability, which analyses the establishment of measures to achieve a more sustainable built environment; and (vi) construction management, which compiles the latest studies in the field of Project manager. The 38 chapters of the book together constitute an advance for the topic of building engineering. The aspects covered in the book are of great interest to various sectors, such as researchers, engineers, architects, legislators and interested parties.
Download or read book Concrete Permeability and Durability Performance written by Roberto J. Torrent and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-22 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Durability and service life design of concrete constructions have considerable socio-economic and environmental consequences, in which the permeability of concrete to aggressive intruders plays a vital role. Concrete Permeability and Durability Performance provides deep insight into the permeability of concrete, moving from theory to practice, and presents over 20 real cases, such as Tokyo’s Museum of Western Art, Port of Miami Tunnel and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao sea-link, including field tests in the Antarctic and Atacama Desert. It stresses the importance of site testing for a realistic durability assessment and details the "Torrent Method" for non-destructive measurement of air-permeability. It also delivers answers for some vexing questions: Should the coefficient of permeability be expressed in m2 or m/s? How to get a "mean" pore radius of concrete from gas-permeability tests? Why should permeability preferably be measured on site? How can service life of reinforced concrete structures be predicted by site testing of gas-permeability and cover thickness? Practitioners will find stimulating examples on how to predict the coming service life of new structures and the remaining life of existing structures, based on site testing of air-permeability and cover thickness. Researchers will value theoretical principles, testing methods, as well as how test results reflect the influence of concrete mix composition and processing.

Book excerpt: Bridge Engineering: A Global Perspective is a comprehensive review of how we create and maintain bridges - one of the most vital yet vulnerable parts of our infrastructure - and how we got where we are today. Its 800 illustrated pages in full colourprovide a unique and authoritative reference for practitioners, researchers and students alike on the state-of-the-art of bridge engineering world-wide, from local community footbridges to vast multi-modal crossings between nations.
Download or read book Probabilistic service life model of RC structures subjected to the combined effect of chloride induced corrosion and cyclic loading written by Emilio Bastidas Arteaga and published by Universidad de los Andes. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the advantages of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is its durability. However, when they are exposed to aggressive environments (e.g., chloride penetration) and cyclic loading, its performance can be significantly affected. Modeling deterioration produced by chloride penetration is useful to ensure optimal levels of serviceability and safety. The main purpose of this book is to propose a new model for lifetime assessment of RC structures subjected to deterioration produced by the combined action of corrosion and fatigue. The formulation of the model is based on a state of the art review on modeling of this kind of deterioration. Furthermore, taking into account the importance of the uncertainty related to the whole deterioration process, this book also presents a stochastic framework for this problem. Finally, several practical examples illustrate the effects of the corrosion-fatigue process in the reduction of life-cycle of RC structures.
