Book Nixon s Trident Naval Power in Southeast Asia 1968 1972

Download or read book Nixon s Trident Naval Power in Southeast Asia 1968 1972 written by John Darrell Sherwood and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This commemoration booklet focuses on naval air power during the final years of the Vietnam War. For much of this period, Navy aircraft sought to hamper the flow of supplies down the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos—a huge investment in air power resources that ultimately proved fruitless. After North Vietnam’s invasion of the South in 1972, however, Navy tactical aviation, as well as naval gunfire support, proved critical, not only in blunting the offensive but also in persuading North Vietnam to arrive at a peace agreement in Paris in1973. The Navy’s forward presence saved the day in 1972 and allowed President Nixon to finally achieve “peace with honor.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being the only woman helicopter pilot of a team handpicked by the President of the United States should have been intimidating. But not for Clover “Lucky” Walker. She was born to fly. Being at the controls of her modified Blackhawk was where she felt empowered. No mission was too difficult for the pint-sized dynamo. She took on any challenge thrown her way and succeeded. That wasn’t saying she hadn’t had a few close calls. Being the daughter of a highly decorated retired Marine Colonel and a little sister to four brothers, all serving in the Special Forces, Clover had a reputation to uphold. However, her overprotective family members were in the dark about her classified position in the Situational Combat Unit. Her reputation was so good she hadn’t realized that traitors inside her own unit and government were using her abilities for their own personal gains until it was too late. After a simple mission turns deadly, and Clover is put in the crosshairs of those wanting to harm not only the United States but also her, she is given two choices—be placed into a witness protection program or hide out in a safe house with a certain U.S. Navy SEAL who rocked her world and shattered her heart. U.S. Navy SEAL Landon “Joker” Davis had been thrust into many situations during his career and was always prepared to the best of his ability. But when the President of the United States summoned him, he was unprepared for the assignment handed to him—protecting the feisty, blonde-haired woman who affected him in ways that even he had trouble understanding. Will both parties be able to push aside their personal feelings towards one another and work together to combat the danger closing in on them? When all is said and done, can they have a future together?

Book Spearhead of Logistics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Benjamin King
  • Publisher : Government Printing Office
  • Release : 2016-02-25
  • ISBN : 9780160931192
  • Pages : 584 pages

Download or read book Spearhead of Logistics written by Benjamin King and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2016-02-25 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spearhead of Logistics is a narrative branch history of the U.S. Army's Transportation Corps, first published in 1994 for transportation personnel and reprinted in 2001 for the larger Army community. The Quartermaster Department coordinated transportation support for the Army until World War I revealed the need for a dedicated corps of specialists. The newly established Transportation Corps, however, lasted for only a few years. Its significant utility for coordinating military transportation became again transparent during World War II, and it was resurrected in mid-1942 to meet the unparalleled logistical demands of fighting in distant theaters. Finally becoming a permanent branch in 1950, the Transportation Corps continued to demonstrate its capability of rapidly supporting U.S. Army operations in global theaters over the next fifty years. With useful lessons of high-quality support that validate the necessity of adequate transportation in a viable national defense posture, it is an important resource for those now involved in military transportation and movement for ongoing expeditionary operations. This text should be useful to both officers and noncommissioned officers who can take examples from the past and apply the successful principles to future operations, thus ensuring a continuing legacy of Transportation excellence within Army operations. Additionally, military science students and military historians may be interested in this volume.

Book Defending Air Bases in an Age of Insurgency

Download or read book Defending Air Bases in an Age of Insurgency written by Shannon Caudill and published by Military Bookshop. This book was released on 2014-08 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology discusses the converging operational issues of air base defense and counterinsurgency. It explores the diverse challenges associated with defending air assets and joint personnel in a counterinsurgency environment. The authors are primarily Air Force officers from security forces, intelligence, and the office of special investigations, but works are included from a US Air Force pilot and a Canadian air force officer. The authors examine lessons from Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other conflicts as they relate to securing air bases and sustaining air operations in a high-threat counterinsurgency environment. The essays review the capabilities, doctrine, tactics, and training needed in base defense operations and recommend ways in which to build a strong, synchronized ground defense partnership with joint and combined forces. The authors offer recommendations on the development of combat leaders with the depth of knowledge, tactical and operational skill sets, and counterinsurgency mind set necessary to be effective in the modern asymmetric battlefield.
