Book Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry

Download or read book Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry written by Daniel J. Buysse and published by American Psychiatric Pub. This book was released on 2007-05-03 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sleep and wakefulness are fundamental behavioral and neurobiological states that characterize all higher animals, including human beings. Concise yet comprehensive, Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry, the latest volume in American Psychiatric Publishing's popular Review of Psychiatry Series, presents the cumulative experience of 12 experts who talk about what sleep is and why sleep is essential to maintaining good health, summarizing the major categories of sleep disorders and detailing how virtually every psychiatric disorder and a wide variety of medical illnesses adversely affect sleep. Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry is the ideal companion to busy psychiatric clinicians because it is Comprehensive, covering all information of particular relevance to psychiatric clinicians. Enhanced by numerous tables and illustrations that make it easy to understand and reference while "on the go" during everyday practice. Clearly structured and easy to understand, with chapters organized according to the major categories of sleep disorders most likely to be encountered in psychiatric clinical practice. The fascinating introduction discusses the functions of sleep and the consequences of sleep deprivation, including the complex neurobiology of circadian rhythms, sleep and wakefulness, the clinical assessment and management of sleep and circadian rhythm disorders, and the pros and cons of tools for taking an accurate history. Each of the six subsequent chapters in Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry follows the same format by detailing the definitions and clinical description, epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, and treatment for a major category of sleep disorder: insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy and syndromes of central nervous system-mediated sleepiness, restless legs syndrome, parasomnias, and circadian rhythm sleep disorders. Further, Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry provides psychiatrists with the tools necessary to embark upon exciting collaborations with specialists from other areas of clinical medicine (psychologists, pulmonologists, neurologists and surgeons). Given the importance of behavioral and psychopharmacologic interventions in managing sleep disorders, psychiatrists can often make valuable contributions to the care of medically ill patients with these conditions. Abundantly referenced and illustrated, Sleep Disorders and Psychiatry is the ultimate practical resource for busy clinicians interested in the broad and growing field of sleep disorders.

Book Bread from Heaven

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bernhard Blankenhorn
  • Publisher : CUA Press
  • Release : 2021-08-07
  • ISBN : 0813233941
  • Pages : 353 pages

Download or read book Bread from Heaven written by Bernhard Blankenhorn and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2021-08-07 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bread from Heaven offers a contemporary theological synthesis on the Eucharist that brings together classical and critical biblical exegesis, debates on the early history of the Christian liturgy, patristic doctrine, the teachings offered by the Councils of Florence, Trent and Vatican II, and the Church’s lex orandi, all within a framework provided by the Eucharistic theology of Thomas Aquinas. The volume begins with Christ’s Bread of Life discourse in John 6, in light of the Old Testament theme of the manna, and the Synoptic accounts of the Last Supper. These biblical texts offer solid foundation for a theology of Eucharistic sacrifice, presence and Communion. It then continues with a historical and systematic study of the institution of the Eucharist by Christ, with special attention given to the emergence of the first Eucharistic prayers. Then follows a survey of key Christological and ecclesiological themes which undergird Eucharistic theology. The chapters on Eucharistic sacrifice and presence form the heart of the work. Here, the focus moves to key conciliar, patristic and Thomistic insights on these themes. Bread from Heaven clarifies misunderstandings of Eucharistic sacrifice and renders transubstantiation accessible to beginners. Blankenhorn concludes with a study of the consecration, the minister of the Eucharist and the fruits of communion. The chapter on the debate over the words of institution and the epiclesis gives a fresh perspective that integrates both eastern and western tradition. The study of the Eucharistic celebrant strikes a balance between a spirituality of the priest as acting in persona Christi and of the priest as praying in persona ecclesiae. The concluding chapter centers on the Eucharist’s unitive, mystical fruits in the Church. This textbook is ideal for an advanced undergraduate or graduate course on Eucharistic theology. It also seeks to advance the debate on several controversial historical and speculative issues in sacramental theology.

Book Decomposition Methods for Complex Factory Scheduling Problems

Download or read book Decomposition Methods for Complex Factory Scheduling Problems written by Irfan M. Ovacik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The factory scheduling problem, that of allocating machines to competing jobs in manufacturing facilities to optimize or at least improve system performance, is encountered in many different manufacturing environments. Given the competitive pressures faced by many companies in today's rapidly changing global markets, improved factory scheduling should contribute to a flrm's success. However, even though an extensive body of research on scheduling models has been in existence for at least the last three decades, most of the techniques currently in use in industry are relatively simplistic, and have not made use of this body of knowledge. In this book we describe a systematic, long-term research effort aimed at developing effective scheduling algorithms for complex manufacturing facilities. We focus on a speciflc industrial context, that of semiconductor manufacturing, and try to combine knowledge of the physical production system with the methods and results of scheduling research to develop effective approximate solution procedures for these problems. The class of methods we suggest, decomposition methods, constitute a broad family of heuristic approaches to large, NP-hard scheduling problems which can be applied in other environments in addition to those studied in this book.
