Book Mathematical Modeling and Simulation of Rapeseed Drying on Concurrent Flow Dryer

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling and Simulation of Rapeseed Drying on Concurrent Flow Dryer written by Le Anh Duc and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical modeling for rapeseed drying on concurrent-flow dryer was built based on energy and mass transfer balances. The fourth-order Runge,ÄìKutta method was used for solving four ordinary differential equations. A computer simulation program for circulating concurrent-flow rapeseed dryer was developed using these models. A pilot-scale concurrent-flow dryer was used to verify the fitness of simulation program. Two drying experiments were conducted. The output parameters of the simulation program were compared and analyzed with experiment data. The RMSE of simulated moisture contents ranged from 0.334 to 0.506%w.b. with the coefficient of determinations ranged from 0.994 to 0.997. The RMSE of simulated rapeseed temperatures during drying process ranged from 1.15 to 1.77¬∞C with the R2 ranging from 0.904 to 0.925. The experimental drying rates were 2.38 and 2.80% w.b./h. In comparison with simulated values, the difference between simulated value and measured value of drying rate were 5.04 and 5.08%; drying time were 7.14 and 0.47%; and germination ratio were 1.87 and 0.47%. The simulated fuel energy consumption for drying were 4.62 and 8.57% lower than the experimental values. The analytic results showed that the simulation results have good fitness with experimental data.

Book Application of Solar Energy to Industrial Drying of Soybeans

Download or read book Application of Solar Energy to Industrial Drying of Soybeans written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 15-month performance evaluation was conducted on a solar system designed and constructed to augment the industrial drying of soybeans at the Gold Kist, Inc., extraction plant in Decatur, Alabama. The plant employs three oil-fired, continuous-flow dryers of 3,000 bu/hr each. The solar system consists of 672 Solaron air collectors that temper the airflow into the existing dryers. Since the requirement for energy exceeds the peak solar system capacity, no storage is provided. The interface with the existing facility is simply accomplished by three ducts that release the solar heated air directly adjacent to the dryer air intakes, and no mechanical coupling is needed. The solar system was operated for 1,752 hr on 290 days during the 15-month period without a single failure sufficient to cause shutdown. No interference with normal plant operations was experienced. Maintenance of the solar system, consisting of service to the air handling unit, cleaning of collector glazing, and minor duct repair, totaled $1,564. System utilization was only 46.3%. This was primarily due to daytime routine maintenance performed on the conventional drying and processing equipment. The solar fraction was not large enough to justify maintenance shift changes. An average collector efficiency of 26.2% was experienced. Contamination caused by the local plant environment reduced the average collector efficiency by 9.3 percentage points. A prototype of an automatic cleaning system was constructed and tested.

Book Modeling and Flowsheet Simulation of Vibrated Fluidized Bed Dryers Band 18

Download or read book Modeling and Flowsheet Simulation of Vibrated Fluidized Bed Dryers Band 18 written by Sören Ernst Lehmann and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidized bed dryers are the prime choice when it comes to drying of heat sensitive products, commonly processed in the pharmaceutical and food industry. As many products in these industries are fine and cohesive, mechanical vibration of the dryer is used to enable or improve fluidization. Thus, the goal of this thesis is the development of a fluidized bed drying model that accounts for the influence of mechanical vibration of the dryer, as well as its implementation in an open-source flowsheet simulation framework. Continuously operated fluidized bed dryers under steady-state conditions are the focus of this thesis. The aim during model development and implementation is the broadest possible application range of the model. A custom-built vibrated fluidized bed dryer is designed and constructed for comprehensive investigations of fluidized bed hydrodynamics and drying kinetics. Based on experimental investigations, a semi-empirical model for hydrodynamics of fine and cohesive powders is developed. The new model is combined with established models to allow for the flowsheet simulation of fluidized bed dryers for particles of all Geldart groups. Additionally, the influence of vibration is accounted for. Comprehensive validation experiments are performed for particles of different Geldart groups, different dryer geometries and a variety of process parameters, including mechanical vibration. Comparison of model predictions with experimental data attributes high accuracy of predicted particle and gas properties. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses are conducted to identify potential weaknesses in underlying model assumptions. Hereby, the validity of underlying assumptions is confirmed and potential optimization parameters for different applications are identified. The proposed model is unprecedented in terms of range of process parameters, variety of particle properties and dryer geometries, tested and found valid for.
