Life becomes more challenging when the Dead's Jerry Garcia dies and Rob gets fired from his first post-graduate job that he had grown to despise. Without the benefit of a playbook, and after much trial and tribulation, Rob ultimately finds a career and the woman of his dreams in New York City and learns that settling down isn't the same thing as settling.ADVANCE PRAISE FOR DRUNK ON SUNDAY "You don't have to be a Chargers fan to relate to Ross Warner. If your team has ever hurt you or let you down, you already get it. Sadly, that's all Ross and I know. I have known Ross for 4 decades and we have shared our football frustrations and dashed hopes more times than I can remember, (but Ross recalls every one.)." Eric Stangel, Emmy-winning Writer/EP The Late Show with David LettermanChargers fan since 1979 and friend of Ross' for life "I saw Ross at numerous games throughout the years. He has seen the team everywhere. His fandom and his knowledge are unparalleled. He loves his Chargers."Jim Steeg, Former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, San Diego Chargers "In nearly three decades of covering the Chargers, I've come across few fans as passionate and as witty as Ross Warner. He has countless tales and he knows how to tell them! I'm looking forward to his book, Drunk On Sunday."Jay Paris, Former Chargers Beat Writer and Author of Game Of My Life: San Diego Chargers "Even as a Bills fan, scarred for life by Dan Fouts to Ron Smith with 2:08 left, I still enjoyed this tale. It's terrific and right there with Frederic Exley's A Fan's Notes."Rich Blake, Talking Proud: Rediscovering the Magical 1980 Season of the Buffalo Bills

Book excerpt: An "entertaining and enlightening" deep dive into the alcohol-soaked origins of civilization—and the evolutionary roots of humanity's appetite for intoxication (Daniel E. Lieberman, author of Exercised). While plenty of entertaining books have been written about the history of alcohol and other intoxicants, none have offered a comprehensive, convincing answer to the basic question of why humans want to get high in the first place. Drunk elegantly cuts through the tangle of urban legends and anecdotal impressions that surround our notions of intoxication to provide the first rigorous, scientifically-grounded explanation for our love of alcohol. Drawing on evidence from archaeology, history, cognitive neuroscience, psychopharmacology, social psychology, literature, and genetics, Drunk shows that our taste for chemical intoxicants is not an evolutionary mistake, as we are so often told. In fact, intoxication helps solve a number of distinctively human challenges: enhancing creativity, alleviating stress, building trust, and pulling off the miracle of getting fiercely tribal primates to cooperate with strangers. Our desire to get drunk, along with the individual and social benefits provided by drunkenness, played a crucial role in sparking the rise of the first large-scale societies. We would not have civilization without intoxication. From marauding Vikings and bacchanalian orgies to sex-starved fruit flies, blind cave fish, and problem-solving crows, Drunk is packed with fascinating case studies and engaging science, as well as practical takeaways for individuals and communities. The result is a captivating and long overdue investigation into humanity's oldest indulgence—one that explains not only why we want to get drunk, but also how it might actually be good for us to tie one on now and then.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay, a hilariously candid and refreshingly honest account of Stefanie Wilder-Taylor’s journey to breaking up with alcohol for good. When Stefanie Wilder-Taylor became a mother, being able to connect with other moms over drinks or enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a stressful day felt life-affirming. From liquor cabinet concoctions in high school to tequila shots in her early stand-up comedy days to grocery store wine in young motherhood, alcohol was the seasoning that could give almost any activity more flavor. A drink instantly took the edge off and made even the most difficult adversary (be it a tough crowd in a comedy club or a judgmental PTA mom) not just bearable but fun. As the years go by, Stefanie wonders if her relationship with alcohol is different from other people’s. Is everyone else struggling this hard to moderate? Is it even legal to watch The Bachelor without a glass of white wine? Having spent a lifetime grappling with the question of whether or not she is a “real” alcoholic, one evening brings Stefanie close to the edge of losing it all. Miraculously unscathed, she decides that she doesn’t need to dive all the way down to a stereotypical rock bottom before deciding to stop drinking; if sobriety will improve her life, that’s a good enough reason to quit. Stefanie’s memoir is a tender and funny farewell letter to a beloved but toxic friend.

Book Drunk on Confidence

Download or read book Drunk on Confidence written by Heidi Anderson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-19 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Being ‘Drunk on Confidence’ is not some throw-away phrase for an inspirational Insta caption, it's a lifestyle, a complete shift in perspective that will help you feel empowered and confident every day.” Radio and TV personality, Heidi Anderson was always the girl who wore a cardigan in summer to cover her arms, and board shorts to the beach on the rare occasion she dared to go. She spent years hating herself; silencing her body demons through sex, booze and boys. Heidi knows what it’s like to feel alone, to deal with debilitating anxiety daily and to constantly try to please people; pretending to be okay on the outside, while suffering crushing insecurities on the inside. After breaking down on live radio to 300 thousand listeners and making the nerve-racking confession, “I wish I could sit here and tell you that I love myself because that’s what people expect me to say, but I can’t. I absolutely hate my body” She experienced a life-changing moment. Her gut-wrenching admission forced her to embrace her vulnerabilities, challenge her old beliefs and learn how to say a big fat ‘’Fuck You” to unrealistic beauty standards, and a big ‘’Up Yours’’ to all diets and society’s expectations. Heidi is unapologetically authentic, her memoir is filled with honesty, humour and home-truths. She will show you how she dealt with her inner mean girls that told her she wasn’t skinny enough, good enough or simply that other people mattered more than she did. She will inspire you to STOP worrying what other people think and take your power back! Heidi Anderson is a straight up legend, she just gets it! She works hard, she’s an ideas machine and is a content queen. Heidi is the ultimate hype girl, I know this cause she’s been mine since 2013” - Tanya Hennessy Comedian, TV & Radio Personality Heidi asked me to leave a quote about how amazing she is. That’s the type of confidence she has. A brave, motivational force to be reckoned with. Constantly inspires me. Heidi has motivated me to take my top off in shopping centres also. - Christian Hull, Comedian, Author Content creator Your perspective on life encourages me to live with more confidence every day. I will always admire your determination to help others see the positive things in life. I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK! - Beck Z TV personality - MAFS contestant & celeb apprentice

Book The Science of False Memory

Download or read book The Science of False Memory written by C. J. Brainerd and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-05-05 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Findings from research on false memory have major implications for a number of fields central to human welfare, such as medicine and law. Although many important conclusions have been reached after a decade or so of intensive research, the majority of them are not well known outside the immediate field. To make this research accessible to a much wider audience, The Science of False Memory has been written to require little or no background knowledge of the theory and techniques used in memory research.Brainerd and Reyna introduce the volume by considering the progenitors to the modern science of false memory, and noting the remarkable degree to which core themes of contemporary research were anticipated by historical figure such as Binet, Piaget, and Bartlett. They continue with an account of the varied methods that have been used to study false memory both inside and outside of the laboratory. The first part of the volume focuses on the basic science of false memory, revolving around three topics: old and new theoretical ideas that have been used to explain false memory and make predictions about it; research findings and predictions about false memory in normal adults; and research findings and predictions about age-related changes in false memory between early childhood and adulthood. Throughout Part I, Brainerd and Reyna emphasize how current opponent-processes conceptions of false memory act as a unifying influence by integrating predictions and data across disparate forms of false memory. The second part focuses on the applied science of false memory, revolving around four topics: the falsifiability of witnesses and suspects memories of crimes, including false confessions by suspects; the falsifiability of eyewitness identifications of suspects; false-memory reports in investigative interviews of child victims and witnesses, particularly in connection with sexual-abuse crimes; false memory in psychotherapy, including recovered memories of childhood abuse, multiple-personality disorders, and recovered memories of previous lives. Although Part II is concerned with applied research, Brainerd and Reyna continue to emphasize the unifying influence of opponent-processes conceptions of false memory. The third part focuses on emerging trends, revolving around three expanding areas of false-memory research: mathematical models, aging effects, and cognitive neuroscience. False Memory will be an invaluable resource for professional researchers, practitioners, and students in the many fields for which false-memory research has implications, including child-protective services, clinical psychology, law, criminal justice, elementary and secondary education, general medicine, journalism, and psychiatry.
