Book Understanding Henri Lefebvre

Download or read book Understanding Henri Lefebvre written by Stuart Elden and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2004-04-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri Lefebvre has been celebrated as one of the most influential social theorists of the twentieth century. Understanding Henri Lefebvre places Lefebvre in his historical and intellectual context and analyzes the extraordinary range of his work, across politics, philosophy, history, literature and culture. Particular emphasis is given to Lefebvre's trilogy of inspirational thinkers-Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche; his links to contemporaries such as Heidegger, Axelos and the Situationalists; and his critiques of existentialism and structuralism. Analysis of his writings on cities are balanced with those on rural communities, the production of space connected to ideas of time and history, and everyday life linked to the festival and cultural revolution. Understanding Henri Lefebvre offers the most wide-ranging and reliable account of this central theorist available.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

  • Release : 2014-01-01
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 127 pages

Download or read book Droit de L urbanisme written by Amel Aouij Mrad and published by Al Manhal. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Droit et coutume en France aux XIIe et XIIIe si cles written by André Gouron and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume by André Gouron brings together a widely scattered set of articles on Roman law in medieval France and its influence. The first group of papers is concerned with the medieval history of Roman law itself, while the two following sections look at how it contributed to the (perfectionnement) of canon law, on the one hand, and to the emergence of customary law on the other. As the author would see it, there are the three aspects of the inexorable advance, if not of a science, at least of a clear effort towards logical clarification, which revolutionised law in the 12th and 13th centuries, first in southern Europe, but soon in the west and north too. At the same time, these studies help reveal some of the complex network of intellectual links that underlay these developments.

Book The production of Urban Space Temporality and Spatiality

Download or read book The production of Urban Space Temporality and Spatiality written by Bernard Gauthiez and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production of urban space in scarcely studied by scholars in historical and urban studies, the city being still predominantly seen as a frame in which activities and social relationship develop, not a produce in itself. The scope of the book is the comprehension of this production. This implies an adequate conceptualisation of the way urban space can be measured and broken down in units which can be put in relation with social processes and agents. A first part examines the concepts and their implications. The second part deals with the anthropology and typology of architectural production considered in relation to demography. The third part develops on the rhythms of the space production at Lyon from the late 15th century to the 19th. The temporalities and spatialities of the production are determined and examined. The agents of the production are studied all along the period, in parallel to the market aimed at: investors in real estate, tenants, activities. Each phenomenon identified can be described and understood as in the meantime a temporal, spatial and social unit.

  • Publisher : Frederico Glitz Consultoria Jurídica
  • Release : 2014-12-01
  • ISBN : 8591689925
  • Pages : 410 pages

Download or read book Globalization of contractual law written by Frederico Eduardo Zenedin Glitz and published by Frederico Glitz Consultoria Jurídica. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts the proposition that it is possible to the customs to be sources of contractual obligations. To support that premise, it was necessary to seek jurisprudential (arbitration and litigation) and comparative basis. Even more, due to contract law internationalization, customary international sources should be subject of domestic treatment, as they provide contractual obligations as well as they work as contractual interpretation tool. However, one can´t neglect the need to control the customary content. In detailed terms, then, we can say that the role reserved for the custom as contractual law rules source has always been residual in Brazilian law. Accompanying the modern European experience, doctrine and Brazilian legislation emphasize the secondary, when not merely interpretive, role of the contractual custom. In turn, Brazilian case law wasn´t able to give general treatment to contractual custom. Moreover, the process of reducing distances and cultural, social and economic approximation, usually called globalization, influenced the contracts through the incorporation of a number of solutions brought from the international trade practice. Although they might be justified by the age-old principle of freedom, somehow these international "uses" insinuate themselves into Brazil to the point of requiring that the Brazilian Courts themselves to give them treatment and shelter. On one side, if you deny the existence of a creative normative role in contractual custom by another, albeit indirect, is recognized not only their existence but the possibility of foreign origin. This paradoxical treatment reflects, to some extent, another consequence: the Brazilian contract law is in the process of internationalization. Here, then, a new confrontation is announced: a broad creative freedom (a tributary of the so-called Lex mercatoria) and the foreign act incorporation control (public policy). Unlike before, however, no simplistic answer would be feasible, particularly because of the complexity of contemporary and regulatory Brazilian contract law.

Book The Logic of Political Conflict in Medieval Cities

Download or read book The Logic of Political Conflict in Medieval Cities written by Patrick Lantschner and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-03-26 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume traces the logic of urban political conflict in late medieval Europe's most heavily urbanized regions, Italy and the Southern Low Countries. The fourteenth and fifteenth centuries are often associated with the increasing consolidation of states, but at the same time they also saw high levels of political conflict and revolt in cities that themselves were a lasting heritage of this period. In often radically different ways, conflict constituted a crucial part of political life in the six cities studied for this book: Bologna, Florence, and Verona, as well as Liège, Lille, and Tournai. The Logic of Political Conflict in Medieval Cities argues that such conflicts, rather than subverting ordinary political life, were essential features of the political systems that developed in cities. Conflicts were embedded in a polycentric political order characterized by multiple political units and bases of organization, ranging from guilds to external agencies. In this multi-faceted and shifting context, late medieval city dwellers developed particular strategies of legitimating conflict, diverse modes of behaviour, and various forms of association through which conflict could be addressed. At the same time, different configurations of these political units gave rise to specific systems of conflict which varied from city to city. Across all these cities, conflict lay at the basis of a distinct form of political organization-and represents the nodal point around which this political and social history of cities is written.
