Download or read book Water Purification Using Heat Pumps written by F A Holland *Decd* and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-06-23 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a long-term co-operative research and professional development programme between the Instituto de Investigaciones Electricas (IIE), Mexico, and the University of Salford, UK. It provides the design basis for the fabrication of small and large scale commercial absorption heat pump systems, and includes a comprehensive treatment of the economics of heat pump systems. It charts the development of heat pump technology from theoretical principles to the operation of practical systems for the purification of water, both for human consumption and a wide variety of industrial purposes. In addition to the increasing demand for potable water there is a rapidly increasing demand for clean water in industries ranging from foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals to electronics. This book will be essential reading for industrial engineers and others concerned with the cost-effective, environmentally friendly production of clean water.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My professional interest in antimicrobial agents and contamination control goes back 50 years to my tour as a microbiologist in a field hospital in Europe during World War II. With no experience and relying solely on a military handbook, I prepared thermometer trays with jars of blue bichloride of mercury and pink isopropyl alcohol. A preliminary typhoid diagnosis of one of our cooks resulted in the need for lab testing. His stool specimen and its subsequent disposal was my problem. My handbook said bum it. So burn it T did, in a five-gallon can with gasoline. Flames shot up almost six feet, and my next mistake was to extinguish them with carbon tetrachloride. This resulted in the production of lethal phosgene gas. The hospital had a near disaster. I could say that at that moment I vowed to write a how-to book so that such stupidities could be avoided. Nevertheless, when I was offered the opportunity to edit this book I thought back on the need for a real, practical treatment of my subject. This book, then, is a practical handbook for technical service personnel and scientists who are not necessarily specialists in microbiology. It provides information on suitable antimicrobial agents appropriate to their particular problem-solving needs and information on the microbial groups contributing to the specific problem, their ecologies, and strategies for controlling their access to the area or material of interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Water is the most important resource of a country. Water is the first food and the number one component of all prepared meals and beverages. Unfortunately it has been wasted, polluted and in many places in the world is unavailable for drinking purposes or , even worse, it includes natural or manmade chemical compounds that brings sickness and it will continue to deteriorate. But there is hope that reason will prevail over the lack of common sense and things will change. I hope this book will help to improve our great resource - water. This book is the most comprehensive source of water treatment answers and will help you perform calculations for water treatment designs with more than 85 ready-to-use completed spreadsheets. It contains many bibliographic references as well as commercial references of the most advanced water equipment and systems. It is the ideal book for anyone interested in water treatment and purification."

Download or read book Hydraulic Fracturing Operations written by Nicholas P. Cheremisinoff and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-16 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic fracturing, commonly referred to as “fracking,” is a technique used by the oil and gas industry to mine hydrocarbons trapped deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The principles underlying the technology are not new. Fracking was first applied at the commercial level in the United States as early as 1947, and over the decades it has been applied in various countries including Canada, the UK, and Russia. The author worked with engineering teams as early as the mid-1970s in evaluating ways to improve oil recovery from this practice. By and large fracking was not an economically competitive process and had limited applications until the early 2000s. Several factors altered the importance of this technology, among them being significant technological innovations in drilling practices with impressive high tech tools for exploration, well construction and integrity, and recovery along with discoveries of massive natural gas reserves in the United States and other parts of the world. These factors have catapulted the application of the technology to what is best described as the gold rush of the 21st century, with exploration and natural gas plays proceeding at a pace that seemingly is unrivaled by any historical industrial endeavor. But this level of activity has invoked widespread criticism from concerned citizens and environmental groups in almost every nation across the Globe. This outstanding new volume offers the industry a handbook of environmental management practices that can mitigate risks to the environment and, through best practices and current technologies, to conform to the current standards and regulations that are in place to provide the world with the energy it needs while avoiding environmental damage. For the new hire, veteran engineer, and student alike, this is a one-of-a-kind volume, a must-have for anyone working in hydraulic fracturing.

Download or read book Environmental Regulations Handbook written by Jacob I. Bregman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-11-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Regulations provides a comprehensive introduction to the environmental laws and regulations with which industry must comply to stay in business. It presents the laws passed by Congress to control pollution, the regulations developed by government agencies to comply with the requirements of those laws, penalties for violations of regulations, and how companies can determine whether or not they are in violation of regulations. To promote a better understanding of why current regulations are written in the manner they are, the book includes examples of the history, chronology, and setting in which environmental laws were developed and how they have evolved through time. It also provides an introduction to The Federal Register, codification, and the Code of Federal Regulations, as well as an examination of how a regulation is developed within government. Environmental Regulations addresses several important issues, including discharges to water, ambient and indoor air, solid and hazardous wastes, toxic pollutants, abandoned dumps, the worker environment, enforcement and compliance, environmental investigations, and environmental assessments. It will be a source of fundamental information on major environmental regulated areas for industry professionals, environmentalists, state environmental protection or department of natural resource personnel, engineers, environmental lawyers, and others who must understand environmental regulations and their enforcement. The book will also be a useful introduction for instructors and students involved in courses in water resources, systems analysis, and environmental engineering. Features
