Download or read book Evaluation of Dredged Material Disposal Alternatives for US Navy Homeport at Everett Washington written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Navy has proposed to homeport a carrier battle group at Everett, Wash. Development of the homeport will involve dredging and disposal of approximately 1 million cu yd of contaminated native material. The US Army Engineer District, Seattle, is providing technical assistance in developing a dredging and disposal plan for these sediments from the East Waterway. In addition, the Seattle District is a permitting agency under Section 10 of the River and Harbor Act of 1899 and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. The purpose of the WES studies was to evaluate the feasibility of alternatives from an environmental and related engineering standpoint. Three major disposal alternatives were evaluated for disposal of the contaminated sediment: confined upland, confined nearshore, and contained aquatic disposal (CAD). The Navy identified CAD as a preferred alternative during the course of the WES study, and also as the selected alternative in all applications for a Section 404 permit. Keywords: Capping; Confined disposal; Contaminants. (AW).

Download or read book Coastal Protection written by Pile Buck and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With today's problems surrounding shoreline protection, this book should be of great assistance. This manual contains a compilation of 2 Navy and 2 Corps manuals all relative to the subject of coastal protection and the affects tidal action has on our shorelines. The titles included are: Coastal Protection is a U.S. Navy publication which deals specifically with waves and their characteristics. In order to prepare safe designs, the normal and extreme waves which will act against the structure must be evaluated so that a design wave can be selected. Pilebuck takes the user through this phase into the application of data to actual design of breakwaters and seawalls. Storm Surge Analysis: High tides and wind-generated waves combine to provide a potential for abnormally high water levels and flooding during hurricanes or other serious storms. An understanding of this phenomena is essential in order to plan control structures or design others.

This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.
