Since her mother’s death years before, she’s spent most of her waking hours helping her dad run the Driftwood Diner. As her best friends, Opal and Sophia, make their dreams come true, Josie watches her own art school aspirations drift on by. Finally ready to lay down some roots, the successful artist is back in town and determined to win Josie’s heart. When he enlists Josie’s help in the preparations for a children’s art camp, Josie finds herself unleashing her artistic side in a way she hasn’t since before her mother’s death. Download or read book Driftwood written by ROBERT TAYLOR QSM and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Driftwood is a poetic look at the world, covering the span of a lifetime from birth in war torn London to retirement on a small island in Moreton Bay, on Queensland's east coast and the influences of nature upon its author. Robert has enjoyed an interesting broadcasting career in Australia and New Zealand but all through it, he\has been followed by poetry that both stimulates and exhilarates. "Driftwood-Another Voice" is about whispers we all hear in our minds, that urge us to do and see things in a different light. It is about being able to listen to your positive voice' and value it because, like driftwood, it can be washed up on a beach one day and gone on the next high tide. Like driftwood, Robert's poems take us to places around the world and we end up on some unusual beaches. We dance with sparkling streams and even meet some of his unusual spectres but always there are the trees and birds, beaches and mountains. Driftwood is a unique book for people who have a passion for the natural world. Driftwood-The Other Voice, reveals something within all of us, if only we can learn to listen.

Download or read book Easy Listening and Film Scoring 1948 78 written by Jack Curtis Dubowsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composers, arrangers, conductors, session musicians, and executives worked in easy listening and scoring, complicating an academic focus that lionizes film music while ignoring or deriding easy listening. This book documents easy listening’s connections with film music, an aspect overlooked in academic and popular literature. Fueled by the rise of the LP and home entertainment, easy listening became the largest midcentury commercial music market, generating more actual income for the record business than 7- inch singles. Easy listening roped in subgenres including classical, baroque, jazz, Latin, Polynesian, "exotica," rock, Broadway, and R&B, appropriated and reinterpreted just as they were for cinema. Easy listening provided opportunities in orchestral music for conservatory- trained composers. Major film composers such as Henry Mancini and Michel Legrand had a prodigious output of easy listening albums. Critics fault easy listening for structural racisms, overlooking its evolution and practitioners. Easy listening helped destabilize a tripartite record business that categorized product as race records, old time records, or general popular music. Charlie Parker’s with Strings records altered the direction of jazz, profoundly influencing other performers, encouraging bold crosspollinations, and making money. The influence of technology and historical contexts of music for work and leisure are explored. Original interviews and primary sources will fascinate scholars, historians, and students of cinema, television, film scoring, and midcentury popular music.
Download or read book On Dreams written by William Archer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1935, William Archer’s interest in dreams had persisted for over quarter of a century, for ten years of which he kept a careful record of his own dreams. These records alone form a valuable collection of material, of which Archer made good use in the writing of the book on dreams on which he was engaged at the time of his death; large parts of these dream-records are reproduced in this book. He left this book partly finished, partly in draft, and partly in the form of notes. In putting together this material the editor, Theodore Besterman, tries to carry out Archer’s intentions as closely as possible, and believed that he represented the book as he would have wished it to appear. It was unquestionably an important contribution to a difficult subject at the time, the result of many years’ study and reflection.
