Book Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence written by C.H. Chen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence contains the proceedings of the Joint Workshop on Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence held in Hyannis, Massachusetts, on June 1-3, 1976. The papers explore developments in pattern recognition and artificial intelligence and cover topics ranging from scene analysis and data structure to syntactic methods, biomedicine, speech recognition, game-playing programs, and computer graphics. Grammar inference methods, image segmentation and interpretation, and relational databases are also discussed. This book is comprised of 29 chapters and begins with a description of a data structure that can learn simple programs from training samples. The reader is then introduced to the syntactic parts of pattern recognition systems; methods for multidimensional grammatical inference; a scene analysis system capable of finding structure in outdoor scenes; and a language called DEDUCE for relational databases. A sculptor's studio-like environment, in which the ""sculptor"" can create complex three-dimensional objects in the computer similar to molding a piece of clay in the machine, is also described. The remaining chapters focus on statistical and structural feature extraction; use of maximum likelihood functions for recognition of highly variable line drawings; region extraction using boundary following; and interactive screening of reconnaissance imagery. This monograph will be of interest to engineers, graduate students, and researchers in the fields of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence.

Book Programming Language Cultures

Download or read book Programming Language Cultures written by Brian Lennon and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Brian Lennon demonstrates the power of a philological approach to the history of programming languages and their usage cultures. In chapters focused on specific programming languages such as SNOBOL and JavaScript, as well as on code comments, metasyntactic variables, the very early history of programming, and the concept of DevOps, Lennon emphasizes the histories of programming languages in their individual specificities over their abstract formal or structural characteristics, viewing them as carriers and sometimes shapers of specific cultural histories. The book's philological approach to programming languages presents a natural, sensible, and rigorous way for researchers trained in the humanities to perform research on computing in a way that draws on their own expertise. Combining programming knowledge with a humanistic analysis of the social and historical dimensions of computing, Lennon offers researchers in literary studies, STS, media and digital studies, and technical fields the first technically rigorous approach to studying programming languages from a humanities-based perspective.

Book Statistical Computation

Download or read book Statistical Computation written by Roy C. Milton and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical Computation covers the proceedings of a conference held at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin on April 28-30, 1969. The book focuses on the methodologies, techniques, principles, and approaches involved in statistical computation. The selection first elaborates on the description of data structures for statistical computing, autocodes for the statistician, and an experimental data structure for statistical computing. Discussions focus on data-system organization, data structures, autocode requirements, data matrix, structure formulas, and structure formulas in data processing and output. The text then examines statistics and computers in relation to large data bases, statistical data language, facilities in a statistical program system for analysis of multiply-indexed data, and language design and the needs of statisticians. The book takes a look at time sharing and interactive statistics, an approach to conversational statistics, use of APL in statistics, and continuing development of a statistical system. Topics include arithmetic operations and branching statements, ASCOP system, application to statistics, semantics, pragmatics, and implementation. The selection is a valuable reference for statisticians and researchers interested in statistical computation.
