Book excerpt: Norgate assesses the way in which the Christian doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation for all other Christian doctrines, especially the Christian understanding of salvation. He investigates in detail the approach of the German Lutheran theologian, Isaac A. Dorner (1809-1884) to this question. Analysis of his arguments concerning the priority of the doctrine of God for Christian belief and dogmatics is given. It examines the form of his doctrine of God's triunity, and gives an extensive study of how Dorner's particular account of God's triune identity informs the Christian conception of God's relation to the world, first, as Creator and, second, as Saviour. In this process, it seeks to refocus attention on Dorner as a major figure in the development of modern theology. The relationship between Dorner's doctrines of the triune God and salvation is assesed. Dorner's positive reconstruction of the Christian idea of God as Trinity provides helpful resources in delineating a non-competitive account of God's relation to the world. This means that God is not confused with nor distant from the world. The eternal vitality of God's immanent personality is the basis of His vital economic activity, which culminates in the incarnation of the Son. We follow the main tributories of Dorner's arguments in System of Christian Faith, beginning with an analysis of his doctrine of God, via his development of the doctrines of creation, humanity, and the incarnation of the God-man. An assessment is given of those doctrines which pertain to the way in which God brings salvation through Jesus Christ: sin, Jesus, and atonement. Norgate concludes by comparing Dorner's achievements with those found in more recent theologies of atonement.

Here we see critical approaches to a West that never was, a West of myth so enduring that the myth dominates nearly all artistic representation about this place that never was. In this collection, we see critical approaches to a New West, a West that is a state of mind, not a geographical place but a mythic space with no boundaries and no political inevitabilities. These New Western studies accept the idea of a West that includes Canada, Mexico, Alaska, and, in the case of the US, every geographic and historical point west of the historic founding settlements. The West we study today is a post-West, an idea of the West past the traditional views of an old West dominated by white US nationalism and gendered as uncompromisingly masculine. The idea itself of a single West no longer holds validity. We now understand that all renderings of the West are renderings of multiple Wests; Wests constructed by American nationalists, Wests constructed by EuroAmerican writers and filmmakers, Wests constructed by native peoples, or Wests constructed outside the geographical boundaries of the US. Calvin's understanding of accommodation implies a distinct dynamic to revelation, which is disrupted by its static, hierarchical ontology. Huijgen points out the weaknesses of Calvin's idea of accommodation on the basis of modern critiques by Karl Barth, Isaak August Dorner, and Harry M. Kuitert; he also explores the viable points for present day theology.

In his manifesto that he posted on Facebook, he vowed to kill those associated with him being fired as well as their families. His first victims were the daughter of the LAPD lawyer who represented him and her fiance. This recent case from 2013 includes several pictures, some of which are quite graphic, including the all-out manhunt for Dorner and his controversial death. Did the LAPD blow the whole scenario way out of proportion. Keeping in mind the fact that the LAPD is one of the most militarized police forces in America, one man's attempts to clear his name should not have sent the whole LAPD into the frenzy that it went into after Dorner's manifesto and statement came to light. Los Angeles has its share of some of the world's most ruthless and well-armed crime rings. These include, The Crips, Bloods, Mexican Mafia, Yakuza, Armenian Mob,Aryan Brotherhood, Skinheads, and Russian mobs as well as the local drug cartels. These gangs are not only real, they are openly hostile towards the LAPD and have killed numerous police officers on numerous occasions. Some of these gangs have even murdered entire families with the LAPD unable to catch them. Yet when an ex-cop, wanting to clear his name, tried to speak out against the LAPD, the police goes all out, 'balls to the wall', and embarked on one of the most organized and widespread manhunts in recent history. Additionally, newer reports regarding Monica Quan have arisen that render an even greater air of speculation to the whole ordeal. Monica Quan and her fiancé, both with law enforcement backgrounds, were found in a car that was parked in a parking garage in a million-dollar predominantly white neighborhood. The parking garage was being guarded by a police officer who did not see Dorner, a large black man, break in. The garages are monitored 24/7 and yet there is no footage of Dorner either breaking in, killing anyone, being there or leaving. Nothing. But that's what the LAPD wants people to believe.
