Book The Ilse

Download or read book The Ilse written by Wayne Patterson and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On January 13, 1903, the first Korean immigrants arrived in Hawai'i. Numbering a little more than a hundred individuals, this group represented the initial wave of organized Korean immigration to Hawai'i. Over the next two and a half years, nearly 7,500 Koreans would make the long journey eastward across the Pacific. Most were single men contracted to augment (and, in many cases, to offset) the large numbers of existing Chinese and Japanese plantation workers. Although much has been written about early Chinese and Japanese laborers in Hawai'i, until now no comprehensive work had been published on first-generation Korean immigrants, the ilse. Making extensive use of primary source material from Korea, Japan, the continental U.S., and Hawai'i, Wayne Patterson weaves a compelling social history of the Korean experience in Hawai'i from 1903 to 1973 as seen primarily through the eyes of the ilse. Japanese surveillance records, student journals, and U.S. intelligence reports--many of which were uncovered by the author--provide an "inner history" of the Korean community. Chapter topics include plantation labor, Christian mission work, the move from the plantation to the city, picture prides, relations with the Japanese government, interaction with other ethnic groups, intergenerational conflict, the World War II experience, and the postwar years. The Ilse is an impressive and much-needed contribution to Korean American and Hawai'i history and significantly advances our knowledge of the East Asian immigrant experience in the United States.

The brides in this collection always say, “I do.” At least…when they’re allowed to say anything at all they do! 1. Bang the Bride! A Rough and Reluctant Wedding Gangbang Erotica Story My newlywed husband Adam did an incredible job with the wedding. Can you believe I landed a man who could plan everything? Well…he did make one mistake. He wanted a wedding band he knew I’d love, but he didn’t agree to a fee ahead of time, and they’d already performed at the reception before he realized he was out of money! It was time for me to be super bride, and I headed to the dressing room to negotiate a fee and a payment plan. The band was very understanding… payment was no issue because they decided to take it out of my mouth, my pussy, and my untouched ass! It was a scorching gangbang with my very first anal sex, and only hours after I said, “I do!” 2. Blackmail the Bride: A BDSM Double Penetration Short Carly is excited about her wedding. What bride doesn’t dream of tying the knot and really starting out on a new life with a wonderful husband? Everything would be just perfect if the best man didn’t know about her past as a sex slave submissive in the underground world of BDSM. He has plans of his own to make it a special day, plans that include his own domination of the bride and a rough and intense double penetration! 3. Dominated Right Before My Wedding: A Rough FFM Threesome Erotica Story It was my wedding day, and everything should have been perfect, but I was clumsy and knocked the champagne pyramid over, breaking hundreds of dollars’ worth of genuine crystal glasses. As if that wasn’t enough, Stacey the caterer is ready to make me pay for it! I’m not just talking about money either because before she’s done with me, I’ll be blindfolded and dominated! I won’t just be punished by Stacey either, but also by her boyfriend…and it’s all going to happen only an hour before I’m supposed to make my vows! 4. Dominated By a Stranger on My Wedding Day She wasn’t sure she could go through with the wedding. When she finally came to her senses, everyone was already on their way! Without a ride, the stress jumps into high gear. To make it worse, a sudden rainstorm gets in the way, too…and she’s locked out! Thankfully a kind stranger stops and opens the car door. He’ll get her where she needs to go…in this case making a pit stop first for some domination, bondage, and rough sex! 5. Dominated by the Maid of Honor: A Reluctant First Lesbian Sex Experience Christie is getting married. That’s it. Her life is set, and she’ll be comfortable and tame forever. Though she’s happy, she also has nagging regrets that she’s never done anything crazy. Now, she’s afraid she’ll never have a chance. Her best friend and Maid of Honor realizes what’s wrong, and on her wedding day while she’s fixing her hair, Selina decides to give Christie what she wants, whether she likes it or not! Before long, Selina has Christie pinned, unable to stop the first lesbian sex that follows and unable to deny how much she wants it! Book Domination And Defiance Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare

Download or read book Domination And Defiance Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare written by Diane Dreher and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare was clearly fascinated by the relationship between fathers and daughters, for this primal bond of domination and defiance structures twenty-one of his comedies, tragedies, and romances. In a conflict that is at once social and interpersonal, Shakespeare's fathers demand hierarchical obedience while their daughters affirm the new, more personal values upheld by Renaissance humanists and Puritans. In her penetrating analysis of this compelling relationship, Diane Dreher examines the underlying psychological tensions as well as the changing concepts of marriage and the family during Shakespeare's time. She points to the pain and conflict caused by sex role polarization. Shakespeare's possessive fathers tyrannize over their daughters, unwilling to relinquish their "masculine" power and control and leaving these young women with only two alternatives: paternal domination or defiance and loss of love. The logic of Shakespeare's plays repudiates traditional stereotypes, showing how women like Ophelia and Desdemona are destroyed by conforming to the passive Renaissance ideal. The book concludes with a consideration of Shakespeare's androgynous characters -- dynamic women in doublet and hose, and fathers who become sensitive, caring, and empathetic. Shakespeare's balanced characters thus reconcile the polarities within themselves and bring greater harmony to their world. Domination and Defiance is the first book on this most provocative relationship in Shakespeare. Shedding new light on the complex father-daughter bond, character, and motivation, it makes a major contribution to literary studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Whiter Than Snow and Prayers for Sale comes a novel about the secrets and passions of three generations of women who have all lived in the same Victorian home called the Bride's House. It's 1880, and for unassuming seventeen-year-old Nealie Bent, the Bride's House is a fairy tale come to life. It seems as if it is being built precisely for her and Will Spaulding, the man she is convinced she will marry. But life doesn't go according to plan, and Nealie finds herself in the Bride's House pregnant---and married to another. For Pearl, growing up in the Bride's House is akin to being raised in a mausoleum. Her father has fashioned the house into a shrine to the woman he loved, resisting all forms of change. When the enterprising young Frank Curry comes along and asks for Pearl's hand in marriage, her father sabotages the union. But he underestimates the lengths to which the women in the Bride's House will go for love. Susan is the latest in the line of strong and willful women in the Bride's House. She's proud of the women who came before her, but the Bride's House hides secrets that will force her to question what she wants and who she loves. Sandra Dallas has once again written a novel rich in storytelling and history, peopled by living, breathing characters that will grab hold of you and not let you go.

Download or read book Quentin Tarantino written by David Roche and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2018-08-02 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quentin Tarantino’s films beg to be considered metafiction: metacommentaries that engage with the history of cultural representations and exalt the aesthetic, ethical, and political potential of creation as re-re-creation and resignification. Covering all eight of Quentin Tarantino’s films according to certain themes, David Roche combines cultural studies and neoformalist approaches to highlight how closely the films’ poetics and politics are intertwined. Each in-depth chapter focuses on a salient feature, some which have drawn much attention (history, race, gender, violence), others less so (narrative structure, style, music, theatricality). Roche sets Tarantino’s films firmly in the legacy of Howard Hawks, Jean-Luc Godard, Sergio Leone, and the New Hollywood, revising the image of a cool pop-culture purveyor that the American director cultivated at the beginning of his career. Roche emphasizes the breadth and depth of his films’ engagement with culture, highbrow and lowbrow, screen and print, American, East Asian, and European.

Book Media Depictions of Brides Wives and Mothers

Download or read book Media Depictions of Brides Wives and Mothers written by Alena Amato Ruggerio and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media Depictions of Brides, Wives, and Mothers, edited by Alena Amato Ruggerio, explores how television, film, the internet, and other media variously perpetuate gender stereotypes. The contributors to this volume bring a variety of feminist rhetorical and media criticism approaches from across the communication discipline to their analyses of how television, film, news coverage, and the Internet shape our expectations of the performance of women’s identities. This collection includes studies of Bridezillas, Jon & Kate Plus 8, Sex and the City, Sarah Palin, Nancy Pelosi, The Devil Wears Prada, Practical Magic, “momtini” blogs, and Mad Men fan websites. Readers will learn to apply the insights from each chapter to their own sets of myths, stereotypes, and assumptions about gendered roles, and to recognize the possibilities for both liberation and domination when women’s practices of marrying, mating, and mothering are represented and misrepresented in the media. This collection is an essential contribution to media studies and criticism of gender stereotypes in contemporary culture.
