Book Does High Intensity Interval Training HIIT enhance glycaemic control

Download or read book Does High Intensity Interval Training HIIT enhance glycaemic control written by Marc Schuhmann and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject Sport - Kinematics and Training Theory, grade: 2,0, Auckland University of Technology (Sport Science), language: English, abstract: High intensity interval training induces numerous morphological and metabolic adaptations in skeletal muscle. On one hand it includes mitochondrial biogenesis and therefore an enhanced capacity to oxidize fuels such as glucose and fats. This implies that a combination of anaerobic and aerobic energy systems rely on muscle glycogen and/or blood glucose as an important substrate for energy production. On the other hand high intensity intermittent modalities improves aerobic respiratory control sensitivity resulting from increased mitochondrial density. High intensity and reduced volume of the workout utilizes type 2 muscle fibres. This muscle fiber has an anaerobic glycolytic metabolism and produces lactate by using glycogen. This results in the production of the growth hormones testosterone and somatropin. This research question plays an important role for people who are affected by type 2 diabetes or obesity which increases morbidity and mortality. Stroke, hypertension and heart disease are some of the most common disorders associated with these conditions.

Download or read book Exercise and Diabetes written by Sheri R. Colberg and published by American Diabetes Association. This book was released on 2013-05-30 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical movement has a positive effect on physical fitness, morbidity, and mortality in individuals with diabetes. Although exercise has long been considered a cornerstone of diabetes management, many health care providers fail to prescribe it. In addition, many fitness professionals may be unaware of the complexities of including physical activity in the management of diabetes. Giving patients or clients a full exercise prescription that take other chronic conditions commonly accompanying diabetes into account may be too time-consuming for or beyond the expertise of many health care and fitness professionals. The purpose of this book is to cover the recommended types and quantities of physical activities that can and should be undertaken by all individuals with any type of diabetes, along with precautions related to medication use and diabetes-related health complications. Medications used to control diabetes should augment lifestyle improvements like increased daily physical activity rather than replace them. Up until now, professional books with exercise information and prescriptions were not timely or interactive enough to easily provide busy professionals with access to the latest recommendations for each unique patient. However, simply instructing patients to “exercise more” is frequently not motivating or informative enough to get them regularly or safely active. This book is changing all that with its up-to-date and easy-to-prescribe exercise and physical activity recommendations and relevant case studies. Read and learn to quickly prescribe effective and appropriate exercise to everyone.

Download or read book Science and Application of High Intensity Interval Training written by Laursen, Paul and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2019 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popularity of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which consists primarily of repeated bursts of high-intensity exercise, continues to soar because its effectiveness and efficiency have been proven in use by both elite athletes and general fitness enthusiasts. Surprisingly, few resources have attempted to explain both the science behind the HIIT movement and its sport-specific application to athlete training. That’s why Science and Application of High-Intensity Interval Training is a must-have resource for sport coaches, strength and conditioning professionals, personal trainers, and exercise physiologists, as well as for researchers and sport scientists who study high-intensity interval training.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although its underlying concept is a relatively simple one—the measurement of the human body and its parts—anthropometry employs a myriad of methods and instruments, and is useful for a variety of purposes, from understanding the impact of disease on individuals to tracking changes in populations over time. The first interdisciplinary reference on the subject, the Handbook of Anthropometry brings this wide-ranging field together: basic theory and highly specialized topics in normal and abnormal anthropometry in terms of health, disease prevention, and intervention. Over 140 self-contained chapters cover up-to-date indices, the latest studies on computerized methods, shape-capturing systems, and bioelectrical impedance, data concerning single tissues and whole-body variables, and reports from different areas of the world. Chapters feature helpful charts and illustrations, cross-references to related chapters are included, and key points are presented in bullet form for ease of comprehension. Together, the Handbook’s thirteen sections entail all major aspects of anthropometrical practice and research, including: Tools and techniques. Developmental stages, from fetus to elder. Genetic diseases, metabolic diseases, and cancer. Exercise and nutrition. Ethnic, cultural, and geographic populations. Special conditions and circumstances. The Handbook of Anthropometry is an invaluable addition to the reference libraries of a broad spectrum of health professionals, among them health scientists, physicians, physiologists, nutritionists, dieticians, nurses, public health researchers, epidemiologists, exercise physiologists, and physical therapists. It is also useful to college-level students and faculty in the health disciplines, as well as to policymakers and ergonomists.

Book The Effect of an Acute Bout of High Intensity Interval Exercise on Glycemic Control in Sedentary Subjects

Download or read book The Effect of an Acute Bout of High Intensity Interval Exercise on Glycemic Control in Sedentary Subjects written by Eward William Seger (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objectives: Traditional aerobic exercise has been used to improve glycemic control in sedentary subjects, but requires a significant time commitment. High intensity interval exercise (HIT) may constitute a more time efficient approach to training, however the acute impact of HIT on glucose tolerance is unclear. The purpose of the study is to test the hypothesis that a single time efficient bout of interval exercise is effective at improving glucose clearance immediately post exercise without a concomitant increase in insulin concentration. Methods: Eight sedentary but healthy males (aged 18-31) underwent a 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (75gm glucose) following two different protocols: 1) control (no exercise); 2) high-intensity interval running (HIT; 10 1-minute intervals at a workload corresponding to 90% VO2max interspersed with 1-minute active recovery periods; total workout time 26 minutes); Results: Following HIT, blood glucose was significantly lower (P

Book The One Minute Workout

Download or read book The One Minute Workout written by Martin Gibala and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, the solution to the #1 reason we don’t exercise: time. Everyone has one minute. A decade ago, Martin Gibala was a young researcher in the field of exercise physiology—with little time to exercise. That critical point in his career launched a passion for high-intensity interval training (HIIT), allowing him to stay in shape with just a few minutes of hard effort. It also prompted Gibala to conduct experiments that helped launch the exploding science of ultralow-volume exercise. Now that he’s the worldwide guru of the science of time-efficient workouts, Gibala’s first book answers the ultimate question: How low can you go? Gibala’s fascinating quest for the answer makes exercise experts of us all. His work demonstrates that very short, intense bursts of exercise may be the most potent form of workout available. Gibala busts myths (“it’s only for really fit people”), explains astonishing science (“intensity trumps duration”), lays out time-saving life hacks (“exercise snacking”), and describes the fascinating health-promoting value of HIIT (for preventing and reversing disease). Gibala’s latest study found that sedentary people derived the fitness benefits of 150 minutes of traditional endurance training with an interval protocol that involved 80 percent less time and just three minutes of hard exercise per week. Including the eight best basic interval workouts as well as four microworkouts customized for individual needs and preferences (you may not quite want to go all out every time), The One-Minute Workout solves the number-one reason we don’t exercise: lack of time. Because everyone has one minute.

Book Sports Nutrition Performance Enhancing Supplements

Download or read book Sports Nutrition Performance Enhancing Supplements written by Abbie E. Smith-Ryan, Ph.D. and published by Linus Learning. This book was released on 2009 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Which of the following will yield the fastest measurable change in performance and/or body composition? (A) changes in training. (B) changes in diet. (C) use of sports supplements. (D) they all work equally well. If you answered 'C,' go to the head of the class. That's right; the proper use of sports supplements can produce changes in minutes (e.g. caffeine), days (e.g. creatine) and weeks (e.g. beta-alanine). Yet we are bombarded by muddled thinking from the mainstream media telling us that 'creatine causes cramps,' 'high protein diets are bad for your kidneys,' 'supplements aren't needed as long as you eat a balanced diet' and other ideas that are void of data. Sports Nutrition & Performance Enhancing Supplements (eds. Abbie Smith-Ryan PhD CSCS*D CISSN and Jose Antonio PhD FNSCA FISSN. Linus Publications) is a focused resource that will give you the latest sports nutrition science, and eradicate the intellectually lazy positions held so dearly by the anti-supplement crowd."--Amazon.

Book HIIT

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nord Alps
  • Publisher : Nord Alps
  • Release :
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 27 pages

Download or read book HIIT written by Nord Alps and published by Nord Alps. This book was released on with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a type of exercise that consists of short bursts of intense activity followed by rest or lower intensity activity. HIIT can help with overall fitness by improving cardiovascular fitness, increasing metabolism, and promoting fat loss. To reap the most benefits from HIIT, it should be incorporated into a well-rounded training regimen that includes a variety of exercises and activities. This can help to avoid boredom while also ensuring that all aspects of fitness are addressed, such as strength, flexibility, and balance. One way to incorporate HIIT into a well-rounded training program is to incorporate it into a weekly workout routine. This could entail doing one or two HIIT workouts per week in addition to other forms of exercise like strength training, yoga, or low-impact cardio. Another possibility is to incorporate HIIT components into other workouts. Instead of a steady-state run, an individual could incorporate intervals of high-intensity running followed by periods of low-intensity running. This can help to spice up workouts and challenge the body in new ways. It is also critical to focus on recovery and allow for adequate rest between HIIT workouts. This can help to avoid overtraining and allow the body to recover and adapt to the demands of the workouts. Finally, HIIT can benefit overall fitness by improving cardiovascular fitness, increasing metabolism, and increasing fat loss. To reap the full benefits of HIIT, it is critical to incorporate it into a well-rounded training regimen that includes a variety of exercises and activities, as well as to prioritize recovery and allow for adequate rest between workouts.
