Download or read book Report on Tobacco Control for the Region of the Americas 2022 written by Pan American Health Organization and published by Pan American Health Org. This book was released on 2022-08-15 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Report on Tobacco Control of the Region of the Americas 2022 presents the progress of the implementation of the MPOWER technical package during the period of 2018-2021. While there has been significant progress noted, the report also highlights the gaps in the acceleration of the tobacco control agenda both at the global and regional levels. Collectively, 26 of the 35 Member States within the Region are implementing at least one measure of the MPOWER technical package at the highest level of application, accounting for 96% of the Region's population being protected from the harms of tobacco. The report also details how the global COVID-19 pandemic is seen as being one of the most important threats to the tobacco control agenda. The increasing development and accessibility of the category of novel and emerging tobacco and nicotine products add to the challenge of accelerating tobacco control both globally and regionally. Yet, despite these obstacles, the Region of the Americas now ranks the second lowest prevalence of tobacco consumption globally and a 100% smoke-free South America.

Download or read book Building Capabilities for Productive Development written by Jorge Cornick and published by Inter-American Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Productive development policies (PDPs) are notoriously hard. They involve a daunting level of technical detail, require public-private collaboration, are in constant danger of capture, and demand time consistency hard to achieve in a politically volatile region. Nevertheless, the potential of PDPs to revitalize the regionâs economic performance and spur productivity growth cannot be ignored. This book takes an in-depth look at 17 cases involving productive development agencies from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Uruguay, identifying key features of institutional design and agency-level practices that make success more likely in this difficult policy arena. Careful study of these experiences might help successful productive development policies gain currency across the region. The cases in this book should not be seen as the exceptions that prove the rule of lackluster PDP performance, but rather as examples that demonstrate the rule can be broken.

Download or read book Construction and Building Research written by Carmen Llinares-Millán and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many areas of knowledge converge in the building industry and therefore research in this field necessarily involves an interdisciplinary approach. Effective research requires strong relation between a broad variety of scientific and technological domains and more conventional construction or craft processes, while also considering advanced management processes, where all the main actors permanently interact. This publication takes an interdisciplinary approach grouping various studies on the building industry chosen from among the works presented for the 2nd International Conference on Construction and Building Research. The papers examine aspects of materials and building systems; construction technology; energy and sustainability; construction management; heritage, refurbishment and conservation. The information contained within these pages may be of interest to researchers and practitioners in construction and building activities from the academic sphere, as well as public and private sectors.
Download or read book Application of ISO 9000 Standards to Education and Training written by Wouter van den Berghe and published by Communautés européennes. This book was released on 1997 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report brings together European experience on the interpretation and implementation of ISO 9000 in education and training (ET) environments. Chapter 1 discusses the importance of quality concepts in ET and summarizes key concepts of total quality management (TQM) and its relevance for ET. Chapter 2 introduces the ISO 9000 standards. It explains the relationship with quality assurance and TQM and gives an overview of the main principles of the standards: structure of the ISO 9000 family, underlying principles, main components, and certification process. Chapter 3 looks at the context for applying ISO 9000 in an ET environment. It examines the rationale behind adopting the standards: reasons for seeking certification, expected benefits, and different considerations by type of ET organization. Then, it highlights the main interpretation problems, explains the terminology, and proposes a more logical rearrangement of the paragraphs of the standards. Chapter 4 includes a detailed discussion and interpretation of every paragraph of ISO 9001. Practical suggestions for implementing the requirements are provided throughout the text. Chapter 5 discusses implementation issues. It indicates the minimum requirements before launching a certification exercise, summarizes positive and negative messages emerging from implementing the standards in ET institutions, and gives a qualitative overview of the benefits resulting from successful certification. Chapter 6 presents overall conclusions, one of which is that it will be the market which will decide whether the cost of ISO 9000 certification is worthwhile, whether its benefits will outweigh the drawbacks, and whether any other national or international quality scheme is more appropriate.
