Book excerpt: As part of the health policy of a country, national medicine policy should be an essential section which aimed at rational use of pharmaceuticals. World Health Organization supports country to develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of national medicines policy’s guidelines, strategies and plans. A good and effective national medicine policy will ensure the availability, affordability, accessibility and rational usability of essential medicine, and traditional, complementary and alternative medicine. This book provides information about the status of medicine policy in the country and to what extent the medicine policy makers recognize and are aware of the existence of medicine policy in the country. How can we expect for effective and reliable policies, if policy makers do not know or are not sure about the national medicine policy and the various medicine policies available in the country! The book is designed for academicians, practitioners, students, as well as policy makers in the health care institutions. The authors hope that these group of readers will appreciate the significant contribution of effective and reliable medicine policy for a country, especially for the developing nations.

Book Economic Evaluation of Dispensing Separation Policy in Malaysia A Decision Analysis Approach Penerbit USM

Download or read book Economic Evaluation of Dispensing Separation Policy in Malaysia A Decision Analysis Approach Penerbit USM written by Asrul Akmal Shafie and published by Penerbit USM. This book was released on 2013 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The separation of dispensing from doctor or what is simply called dispensing separation is a holty debated health policy proposition in Malaysia but rarely discussed. Each time the issue resurfaced, emotional opposition took place and extinguish the discussion of an important policy change that is long overdue in Malaysia. Consequently, both policy markers and the public are deprived of rational arguments for the policy. This book reported an economic evaluation study that has evaluated the benefit of dispensing separation policy from a Malaysian societal perspective using a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) framework. In the absence of empirical data or controlled trial on the policy, the study has also applied a decision modeling approach that make use of empirical data from published studies. This is the first time suach an approach was used in addressing this issue and we feel that this would have appeal not only to Malaysian policy, but also to other countries that are also contemplating such change.

Book The Reality of Medicine Prices in Malaysia Penerbit USM

Download or read book The Reality of Medicine Prices in Malaysia Penerbit USM written by Zaheer-Ud-Din Babar and published by Penerbit USM. This book was released on with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medicines are considered essential public health commodities; perhaps the reason to control medicine prices in majority of the countries. However, Malaysia chooses not to do so and for years Malaysia health authorities and pharmaceutical companies have argued that the medicine prices are reasonable in the country and in many cases the lowest in the region. Nevertheless, for decades, no empirical evidence was available to support these claims. The present book fills this gap and offers an interesting and powerful analysis of the tale of tantalizingly high medicine prices, players in the pharmaceutical market, profit margins of pharmaceutical companies as well as the mark-ups of pharmacists and doctors. The book narrates the result of Malaysia’s free market policies on medicines-all faces are exposed and all tactics are uncovered.

Book The Changing Academic Profession

Download or read book The Changing Academic Profession written by Ulrich Teichler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview on the major findings of a questionnaire survey of academic profession in international perspective. More than 25,000 professors and junior staff at universities and other institutions of higher education at almost 20 countries from all over the world provide information on their working situation, their views and activities. The study “The Changing Academic Profession” is the second major study of its kind, and changes of views and activities are presented through a comparison of the findings with those of the earlier study undertaken in the early 1990s. Major themes are the academics’ perception of their societal and institutional environments, the views on the major tasks of teaching, research and services, their professional preferences and actual activities, their career, their perceived influence and their overall job satisfaction. Emphasis is placed on the influence of recent changes in higher education: the internationalisation and globalisation, the increasing expectation to provide evidence of the relevance of academic work, and finally the growing power of management at higher education institutions. Overall, the academics surveyed show that worldwide discourses and trends in higher education put their mark on the academic profession, but differences by country continue to be noteworthy. Academics consider themselves to be more strongly exposed to mechanism of regulations, incentives and sanctions as well as various assessments than in the past; yet their own freedom, and responsibilities and influence shape their identity more strongly and are reflected in widespread professional satisfaction.

Book Muslim Societies in Postnormal Times

Download or read book Muslim Societies in Postnormal Times written by Ziauddin Sardar and published by International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). This book was released on 2019-12-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where will Muslim societies be tomorrow? The world is increasingly and constantly changing, making it hard to keep up. This makes the state much more dire and troublesome for those already marginalised – particularly Muslim societies. Normal is no longer capable of upholding the promise of tomorrow’s certainty. These are postnormal times. In this storm of ignorance and uncertainty, Muslim societies stand to lose the most. But this is not destiny. In the cultivation of a new type of literacy – futures literacy – there resides a hope. Muslim Societies in Postnormal Times offers an alternative where we can ‘rescue’ and decolonise our futures. Sardar, Serra, and Jordan take an open and plural approach to the future revealing the true potentials that lie before us. Through detailed analysis of contemporary trends, the road to destruction is revealed. Through identifying and exploring emerging issues, agency through options can allow for positive change. And in the extrapolation of these ideas into scenarios, the authors pave the way for us to navigate our own preferred futures. Their study challenges the reader to think about the future in a new way, redefining the monolithic future as three tomorrows (Extended Present, Familiar Futures, and Unthought Futures), along the way ever watchful for Black Swans, Black Elephants, and the illustrious Black Jellyfish that could disrupt the path ahead. The authors pull no punches in critically evaluating the possibilities and nightmares that could potentially befall Muslim societies. Through a display of creativity and imagination, this book looks beyond the conventional to illuminate impacts in the context of the complex, interconnected world we find ourselves in. This informative and enlightening text will push readers to see beyond popular, yet native notions of present and future. In the exposition of the reader’s ignorance and uncertainty, they will begin to look for the unthought and take agency in recolonising and navigating their preferred tomorrow.

Book Lessons from Problem based Learning

Download or read book Lessons from Problem based Learning written by H. J. M. van Berkel and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problem-based learning (PBL) has excited interest among educators around the world for several decades. Among the most notable applications of PBL is the approach taken at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life sciences (FHML) at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Starting in 1974 as a medical school, the faculty embarked on the innovative pathway of problem-based learning, trying to establish a medical training program which applied recent insights of education which would be better adapted to the needs of the modem physician. The medical school, currently part of the FHML, can be considered as an 'established' school, where original innovations and educational changes have become part of a routine. The first book to bring this wealth of information together, Lessons from Problem-based Learning documents those findings and shares the experiences of those involved, to encourage further debate and refinement of problem-based learning in specific applications elsewhere and in general educational discussion and thought. Each chapter provides a description of why and what has been done in the Maastricht program, followed by reflection on the benefits and issues that have arisen for these developments. The final section of the book examines the application of PBL in the future, and how it is likely to develop further.
