Book It s Not You

Download or read book It s Not You written by Sara Eckel and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why am I still single?” If you’re single and searching, there’s no end to other people’s explanations, excuses, and criticism explaining why you haven’t found a partner: “You’re too picky. Just find a good-enough guy and you’ll be fine.” “You’re too desperate. If men think you need them, they’ll run scared.” “You’re too independent. Smart, ambitious women always have a harder time finding mates.” “You have low self-esteem. You can’t love someone else until you’ve learned to love yourself.” “You’re too needy. You can’t be happy in a relationship until you’ve learned to be happy on your own.” Based on one of the most popular Modern Love columns of the last decade, Sara Eckel’s It’s Not You challenges these myths, encouraging singletons to stop picking apart their personalities and to start tapping into their own wisdom about who and what is right for them. Supported by the latest psychological and sociological research, as well as interviews with people who have experienced longtime singledom, Eckel creates a strong and empowering argument to understand and accept that there’s no one reason why you’re single—you just are.

Book excerpt: How many times do you wonder about Love? What does it mean to Love and be Loved? This book explores from a Biblical perspective how Love is expressed in Scriptures. This book is written to challenge, encourage, and illustrate God's message to us. Love is woven like a Scarlet Thread throughout the Bible connecting verses, chapters and books providing a roadmap to our Eternal Home. This book is not written from a theological lens but is meant to create a safe space for the reader to consider their own thoughts about each Scripture. The book explores ways that as Christians we are called to Love, but also acknowledges that we often fail to Love well in many ways, as we interact with fellow Christians and others within our circle of influence. While the focus is on verses of the Bible that mention the word ‘Love’, there is opportunity to deeper explore many stories within the Bible. The stories may surprise you as we see that Love is not always what we might expect. Let this book speak to you as you discover how the Bible describes Love. It is more than romance, cupids, and warm feelings. God loves unconditionally but directs us how to Love His commandments, each other, and ourselves. How we love others impacts how others view God, as we demonstrate Christ's love through our words and actions. In our brokenness we Love imperfectly but can continue to grow in our abilities. There are several common themes that are seen in this study, and each one is important as we continue to grow in our Spiritual journey. This book highlights the work of other talented artists who have expressed their work through many mediums. Take your time to listen and consider their thoughts as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Aunt Jemima beamed at Americans from the pancake mix box on grocery shelves, many felt reassured by her broad smile that she and her product were dependable. She was everyone's mammy, the faithful slave who was content to cook and care for whites, no matter how grueling the labor, because she loved them. This far-reaching image of the nurturing black mother exercises a tenacious hold on the American imagination. Micki McElya examines why we cling to mammy. She argues that the figure of the loyal slave has played a powerful role in modern American politics and culture. Loving, hating, pitying, or pining for mammy became a way for Americans to make sense of shifting economic, social, and racial realities. Assertions of black people's contentment with servitude alleviated white fears while reinforcing racial hierarchy. African American resistance to this notion was varied but often placed new constraints on black women. McElya's stories of faithful slaves expose the power and reach of the myth, not only in popular advertising, films, and literature about the South, but also in national monument proposals, child custody cases, white women's minstrelsy, New Negro activism, anti-lynching campaigns, and the civil rights movement. The color line and the vision of interracial motherly affection that helped maintain it have persisted into the twenty-first century. If we are to reckon with the continuing legacy of slavery in the United States, McElya argues, we must confront the depths of our desire for mammy and recognize its full racial implications.

Download or read book Seven Trumpets and the Investigative Judgment The written by David D. Burdick and published by Aspect Books. This book was released on 2017-04-13 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquakes rip through the world as the Creator approaches, the stars fall, the sun goes dark, and the moon proclaims death. Jesus comes and His powerful presence causes the atmosphere to split and roll away. Revelation 6 shows people wailing for the mountains to bury them: “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?” And who does stand in that day? No one. Not a single soul. It's the total annihilation of a vile, self-righteous human race. God's followers expected all of this to happen on October 22, 1844. They watched and waited, but Jesus didn't return. This was only a warning preview of His return in the sixth seal. In God's mercy, He commands to delay the cataclysm of judgment day so that He can send to the world the needed preparation for the day of wrath. That needed preparation comes with the seven trumpets of the seventh seal that occur after 1844. The postponed destruction seen in the sixth seal will yet be a future reality. The Seven Trumpets and the Investigative Judgment examines chapters 4–11 in the book of Revelation and studies how recent events since 9/11 have almost completed God's gracious delay. This book presents a new view of Revelation that meets the biblical rules of prophetic interpretation and of the inspired “testimony of Jesus,” which is “the spirit of prophecy” (Rev. 19:10). How have we done in this waiting period? Will we stand when Jesus returns? By God's grace this book will help you prepare for that great day.

Book excerpt: Spirituality and religion are fundamental to all human cultures. Yet in the helping professions, whose shared objective is to promote human well being, questions of spirituality have often been avoided. Now we are increasingly realising that scientific materialism and individuality have failed to meet enduring human needs for meaning and connection. Evidence mounts for the importance of spirituality for prevention and intervention in times of crisis, distress and illness. Many professionals find themselves ill-prepared to respond to the spiritual needs of their clients, and to negotiate encounters with people from unfamiliar faith traditions. Spirited Practices shows how it is possible for professionals to think critically, and be open to spirituality at the same time. Professionals and teachers from diverse faiths and fields of work, including social work, health, psychology and ministry explain how they have integrated spirituality into their work. Spirited Practices is inspiring reading for anyone in the helping professions seeking to develop a spiritually aware practice. 'It invites us to look honestly at ourselves and our own practices through learning about those from other professional and faith backgrounds.' Richard Hugman, Professor of Social Work, University of NSW 'A much needed forum for practitioners from diverse professional and spiritual backgrounds to address the challenges and rewards of spiritually-sensitive practice.' Leola Dyrud Furman, Associate Professor Emeritus of Social Work, University of North Dakota
