Book excerpt: In 21st-century America's future, the American dream borders on extinction. Propped up by massive debt, the economy produces no real goods. The rest of the world starves while America stockpiles food. Large cities thrive, but infrastructure crumbles in less populated areas. The government teeters on the brink of insolvency as it mortgages America's posterity. Like many citizens, cynical ad executive Mark Reardon is too busy to notice the country's decline. Working 100-hour weeks directing ad campaigns for multi-national corporations, Mark has neither the time nor the inclination to take on small clients. Hence, when a religious fringe group, The Society for Truth, comes seeking representation, Mark only meets with them reluctantly. However, he is stunned when offered a $3 billion contract to warn the world of impending disaster. Quickly forgetting his reservations, Mark accepts the deal, but soon finds things are not as they seem. Before he realizes his peril, Mark's family is missing, his Society contact is dead, and he is in the hands of an ever-watching and all-encompassing enemy known only as The Company. Fighting to escape and locate his wife and daughter, Mark is pursued by clones, betrayed by friends, and tormented by prophetic visions. Not knowing who to trust, Mark bounces between The Company and The Society, eventually facing his past and embracing his destiny as God's final prophet preceding the coming judgment. "Cry for Tomorrow" is an apocalyptic thriller highlighting the economic and technological factors contributing to societal collapse. While portraying mankind's inability to save himself and his world, the novel explores the dichotomy of spirituality and materialism and the conflict these values create for Mark Reardon and his family. In this time of uncertainty, "Cry for Tomorrow" points readers toward an eternal and unchanging hope.

Book excerpt: This paper presents a review of the history of medical ethics and applies the concepts and principles of medical ethics and morality to the clinical health-care setting. It investigates the relationship between the moral/ethical practices of the physician and the success of the doctor-patient relationship and patient satisfaction. The scientific methodology employed by the author includes both qualitative and quantitative analyses using the case study approach and a patient survey. Among the research findings is a conclusion that although physicians may not always be able to adhere to every ethical practice in each situation, it is imperative that they inculcate the values and virtues of a good doctor-honesty, objectivity, respect, and confidentiality-in order to maintain the best possible doctor-patient relationship.

Book Heart Attack Yak Yak

Download or read book Heart Attack Yak Yak written by Jef R. Huntsman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-29 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a work of non-fiction, as perceived by the electrical and chemical exchanges within my brain. However, in a few instances, the haze of those things partially erased certain details of a memory, making a nurses name, exact features, or the exact content of a conversation elude me. In writing about those memories, I have taken a few liberties, as opposed to leaving them out, for which I hope the reader will find understanding. That being said, the bulk of the book is non-fiction. I have been as accurate as any heart patient can be when shackled with pain meds, beta-blockers, LDL-lowering capsules, stents, by-pass surgery, the twenty-four hour circus of the emergency room, EKGs , and a mosaic of other heart-healthy devices. I have also double checked my facts to correct the occasional misfiring which may have occurred in my skull, researching medical records and checking with others to verify my recollections.

Book Losing My Mind

Download or read book Losing My Mind written by Thomas DeBaggio and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-04-05 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Tom DeBaggio turned fifty-seven in 1999, he thought he was about to embark on the relaxing golden years of retirement -- time to spend with his family, his friends, the herb garden he had spent decades cultivating and from which he made a living. Then, one winter day, he mentioned to his doctor during a routine exam that he had been stumbling into forgetfulness, making his work difficult. After that fateful visit, and a subsequent battery of tests over several months, DeBaggio joined the legion of twelve million others afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. But under such a curse, DeBaggio was also given one of the greatest gifts: the ability to chart the ups and downs of his own failing mind. Losing My Mind is an extraordinary first-person account of early onset Alzheimer's -- the form of the disease that ravages younger, more alert minds. DeBaggio started writing on the first day of his diagnosis and has continued despite his slipping grasp on one of life's greatest treasures, memory. In an inspiring and detailed account, DeBaggio paints a vivid picture of the splendor of memory and the pain that comes from its loss. Whether describing the happy days of a youth spent in a much more innocent time or evaluating how his disease has affected those around him, DeBaggio poignantly depicts one of the most important parts of our lives -- remembrance -- and how we often take it for granted. But to DeBaggio, memory is more than just an account of a time long past, it is one's ability to function, to think, and ultimately, to survive. As his life becomes reduced to moments of clarity, the true power of thought and his ability to connect to the world shine through, and in DeBaggio's case, it is as much in the lack of functioning as it is in the ability to function that one finds love, hope and the relaxing golden years of peace. At once an autobiography, a medical history and a testament to the beauty of memory, Losing My Mind is more than just a story of Alzheimer's, it is the captivating tale of one man's battle to stay connected with the world and his own life.
