Beginning from the first documented British divorce in 1670, Professor Horstman traces the development of divorce, the different means by which it came about, and the relation of practice to moral attitudes. Many cases are presented in summary form, and give a vivid picture of the patterns of behaviour and the agonies of conscience that accompanied this last resort solution. Written in a vivid style, the book casts an often startling light on the behaviour of our ancestors of little more than a century ago.

Book On Divorce

    Book Details:
  • Author : Louis De Bonald
  • Publisher : Transaction Publishers
  • Release : 2013-03-01
  • ISBN : 141285153X
  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book On Divorce written by Louis De Bonald and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Divorce is an anti-divorce treatise by Louis de Bonald, originally published in 1801 in response to the institution of divorce in France in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Examining the social structures of Christians, Jews, Asians, Greeks, and Romans, "On Divorce" links a theory of the family to a theory of politics and argues the family is a basic component of a stable society. As a politician, Bonald gave a crucial anti-divorce speech in the French legislature that summarized the argument of "On Divorce." Due largely to Bonalds efforts, France abolished divorce in 1816. According to Bonald, human society is composed of three interactive societies: religious society, domestic society (the family), and public society (the state). These societies operate on common principles and can only be analyzed in relation to one another. Since, in this view, the family, not the individual, is the basic unit of society, divorce represents a fundamental assault on the social order. Bonald was one of the three principal founders of conservatism, along with Edmund Burke and Joseph de Maistre. Bonalds influence has been felt across the political spectrum and in areas as diverse as political theory, sociology, and literature. Of great interest to students of political philosophy, this work will be of equal value to those concerned with divorce and other social questions.

Book Remarriage is Adultery Unless

Download or read book Remarriage is Adultery Unless written by David Pawson and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consecutive polygamy (as many husbands or wives as you like but only one at a time) is now an accepted norm in contemporary society. Hardly surprising, since the social, legal, moral and financial restraints holding marriages together for a lifetime have been steadily eroded in a relativist age where anything goes. What is surprising is that divorce and remarriage are becoming as common inside the church as outside, even among Christian leaders and especially in the Evangelical stream. Believers have been outspoken about such issues as abortion and homosexuality though their Lord Jesus said nothing about either. He did say quite a lot about the subject of this book but there is either a reluctance to take his teaching at face value or an eagerness to enlarge his ‘exception’ until it becomes the rule. This volume primarily appeals to those for whom the Bible is the final authority in all matters of belief and behaviour, especially those who preach to, teach and counsel others. The author believes that the church should be leading the world uphill rather than following the world downhill. David Pawson has a worldwide teaching ministry, particularly for church leaders. He is known to many through Christian broadcasting and is the author of numerous books.

Only when she was strong could her mother take care of her completely. When she looked at her, her left hand flipped over the clouds, her right hand fell down the rain, her concubine was destroyed, and she beat up the plastic sisters' flowers, leading her mother to stand above everyone else in the capital. [What does this man want?] "Your Highness, here is the letter. We have nothing to do with each other!" "Bang!" The man took it in his hand and it turned into dust in an instant. It's gone now! "

Book Royal Marriage Secrets

Download or read book Royal Marriage Secrets written by John Ashdown-Hill and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a new royal baby we witness fundamental changes in the succession laws, but then rules governing the royal weddings and the succession to the throne have always been shifting. So what is marriage and who decides? What special rules govern royal marriage and when did they come into force? How have royal marriages affected history? Were the 'Princes in the Tower' illegitimate? Did Henry VIII really have six wives? Was Queen Victoria 'Mrs Brown'? how were royal consorts chosen in the past? Did some use witchcraft to win the Crown? History has handled debateable royal marriages in various ways, but had the same rules been applied consistently, the order of succession would have been completely different. Here, all controversial English and British royal marriages are reassessed together for the first time to explore how different cases can shed light on one another. Surveying the whole phenomenon of disputed royal marriage, the author offer some intriguing new evidence, while highlighting common features and points of contrast.

Book Apostasy Divorce Forty Years in the Wilderness of Divorce and Remarriage

Download or read book Apostasy Divorce Forty Years in the Wilderness of Divorce and Remarriage written by Stephen M. Weaver and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-06-27 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apostasy is defined as a falling away from, or a deliberate abandonment of, what had been established scriptural principles and doctrine. This is exactly where the broader Church is today on the doctrine of divorce and remarriage. Written from an Evangelical Protestant perspective we examine this apostasy and its ramifications to the broader Church, society and individuals. The authors' own 40 year journey vividly underscore the theme. Christians from the first 1900 years of the Church would not recognize today's doctrine as Christian. Jesus' exact teachings are examined in depth as are those of Paul. Jesus' definition of the divorced and remarried as adulterers is paramount to the entire discussion. Adultery is one listed reason for exclusion from the kingdom. The differences between legalism and grace are examined and explained. The outcomes to individuals, and society, are listed and backed with scripture, history, and facts; demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt.
