Book The 112 Meditations From the Book of Divine Wisdom

Download or read book The 112 Meditations From the Book of Divine Wisdom written by Lee Lyon and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 112 Meditations from the Book of Divine Wisdom is a translation of the meditations from the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, a revered 8th century text from the Shaivite Tantric tradition of Kashmir, India. It has been rendered into English with commentary and guided practices by Lee Lyon, a teacher of meditation to more than ten thousand people worldwide, who has studied and taught this text for over forty years. Although written over a thousand years ago, the ideas and practices in this much loved text are timeless in nature, and reflect strikingly modern sensibilities. The meditations are well known for their wholehearted engagement of all aspects of life, even the traditionally 'non-spiritual', including yogic practices, emotions, the delight of the senses, sexuality, natural states of wonder, beauty, bliss and the experience of Oneness. The text, however, is more than just a collection of extraordinary and powerful meditation instructions. It embodies an ecstatic and life affirming world view that evolved into the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism in the centuries that followed its writing. Rather than conceptualizing spirituality, in these meditations it is approached more like music or art. We can feel the tradition's direct contact with life--intimate, kind, amused, amazed, delighted--always trying to get us to relate to our experience, to life, to actually engage it rather than just observe or be mindful of it. Although traditionally considered a text for advanced meditators, many people with no formal experience in meditation have extraordinary shifts in consciousness using these practices. Even people who think themselves incapable of meditating find themselves easily entering new and altered states. Each original Sanskrit verse has been translated as literally as possible to help convey the actual meditation instruction embedded in the rich, multidimensional original. A short commentary and an example of how each meditation might be practiced, have been added after each verse to help explain the instruction. There are many different types of meditation in the text, recognizing always the incredible richness and uniqueness of our individual consciousness. As the text progresses, contemplative practices are woven in, culminating in some of the world's most sublime meditations on Oneness. By repeatedly encouraging us to see the spontaneous unity behind the surface appearance of life, and to step into our true Self, the text holds its place as one of the crown jewels of human thought.

Book The Sweetness of Divine Meditation

Download or read book The Sweetness of Divine Meditation written by William Bridge and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine meditation on the word of God is a lost art and science in the spiritual disciplines. Christians are often content to read a little and pray a little. They often have little to no strategy for godly meditation. This is where William Bridge will come in. He will not only show the work and way of divine meditation, but he will initially set forth its sweetness. He teaches that this spiritual discipline is the Christian’s daily way of exercising himself in godliness and walking with God, and that such a walk is sweet. This walking is a picture of persistent communion with Jesus Christ, and is eminently sweet in its applications to the soul. Bridge’s main text is, “My meditation of him shall be sweet,” (Psalm 104:34), setting forth the doctrine that it is a sweet thing for a gracious soul to meditate on God. He shows the true nature and notion of meditation, how and in what respects a man may meditate on God, and how it is that meditation is a sweet thing, and profitable for the Christian. In his second part, in the work and manner which godly meditation ought to be accomplished, he answers some objections. He demonstrates that it is the Christian’s duty to meditate on God and the things of God, that it is a duty for every day, how to rightly meditate to make it profitable (with some rules to that end) and then concludes with arguments and motives to press all Christians to the regular and consistent practice of godly meditation. This work is not a scan or facsimile, and has been updated in modern English for easy reading. It also has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Book excerpt: The Divine Dance has become a classic for fans of Richard Rohr and an important book on Christian mysticism, it provides a fresh perspective for anyone studying or teaching the trinity. The Trinity is the central doctrine of Christianity, but it is still widely considered a mystery we won't ever fully understand. Should we still try to understand it, even so? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God? In this stimulating and thought-provoking book, internationally recognised teacher Richard Rohr explores the nature of God and the paradoxical idea of the Holy Trinity as both three and one. With clear, surefooted wisdom, he encourages us to build on the early Christian understanding of the relationship between Father, Son and Spirit as a flow and dance - a Divine Dance - that we are invited to join in. An engaging, accessible look at the nature of God, The Divine Dance will challenge the way you think about the Trinity and give you a much fuller understanding of the triune relationship that is at the heart of Christian doctrine. It will leave you with a faith that is renewed and strengthened, and show you how you can engage more deeply in your relationship with God and the world through the Trinity.

Download or read book Honoring the Body written by Stephanie Paulsell and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to celebrate your body by attending to daily spiritual practices In Honoring the Body, Stephanie Paulsell speaks to those who have ever wondered how to celebrate the body's pleasures and protect the body's vulnerabilities in a world that seems confused about both. What we need, she shows, are practices that honor the body. Paulsell invites readers to explore how we might honor the body in daily activities--bathing, clothing, eating, working, exercising, loving, and suffering--seeking wisdom from Scripture, history, and contemporary experience, in story and song and poetry. She argues that the accumulated wisdom of religious traditions provides the resources for a rich practice of honoring the body. This practice will not be just an individual practice, however. It will be a shared, communal practice, one we engage in with others. Honoring the Body is for those who want to honor their body and the bodies of others, who wish for a community that cherishes, attends to, celebrates, and soothes the body.
