Book excerpt: Eniko's words: This second book I whole heartedly dedicate to my Heavenly Father, whom I love very much. He alone deserves all the credits in my spiritual life. I just obey and love as I see it from my Father. If it wouldn't have been for Him lowering Himself to me and lifting me up towards Him halfway, I would never have a loving relationship with Him. He is the best father anyone can have and words fail to describe. Much praise and gratitude to you my loving Father for your infinite friendship. My ABBA, my God and yours as well.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The philosopher, theologian, and biblical scholar Austin Farrer (1904-1968) highlighted in his various writings the central role that images play in the interpretation of biblical writings, the construction of theological arguments, and the descriptions of the Christian spiritual life. Theologians down through the centuries have sought to revitalize the central biblical images as they addressed the pressing theological, moral, and spiritual questions of their day. A Revitalization of Images offers students the opportunity to participate in this ongoing creative engagement with ten dominant biblical images that continue to shape the church's beliefs and practices, as well as each Christian's own spiritual journey. Sound theology is rooted in Scripture, conversant with past thinkers, and engaged in the present life of the church. This dynamic directly informs Revitalization. In each chapter we begin with a biblical image that has figured prominently in the Christian theological tradition. Next we examine two prominent voices from the Christian tradition who have drawn upon the image when crafting a compelling vision of the Christian life. We then turn our attention to a contemporary thinker who has incorporated or critiqued the image in his or her own theological work. This discussion is set within the current spectrum of theological positions including orthodox, liberal, postliberal, and postmodern perspectives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beloved as "the Little Flower of Jesus," Marie-Franoise-Thrse Martin-or SAINT THRSE OF LISIEUX (1873-1897)-is remembered today for this, her spiritual autobiography. Before her too-young death from tuberculosis at the age of 24, she put down in words her simple yet profound approach to the worship of God, called her "little way," a philosophy of everyday goodness and appreciation of life and nature that anyone may follow. Remarkably, her deep piety grew from her own life-long suffering, from the loss of her mother at age four to her own ill health, and through them her dedication to obedience of and surrender to God's will. A favorite of spiritual seekers, this is a lovely work of devotion and prayfulness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html Jesus Christ is the Wisdom of God. Origen says: “He is called Wisdom, as we find in the words of Solomon ... He is called Top and firstborn, as the apostle says:“ He was born before all creatures. ”However, firstborn is not something different in nature from Wisdom, but it is the same (with her.) Finally, the apostle Paul says, “Christ is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.” In verse one of Genesis — the first book in the Old Testament corpus — it is said, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," and in Revelation, the last of the books of the New Testament, Christ testified of Himself, "I am the beginning." In addition to that. we can also quote the words from the Gospel of Jonah, which read: "In the beginning was the Word ... all things came into being through him ...". This means that in His Word and Wisdom, which are Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, God the Father created all that exists. /// ...Christ was not "created" by God at a given time, but on the contrary, time was created in Him. Since God is above time and space, the very generation of the Word is, quite naturally, an over-temporal and extra-spatial act. That is why Origen says, "God the Father never existed, even for a moment, without this Wisdom." /// Origen goes on to clarify the relationship that exists between God the Father and His Son. He writes: "this birth (of the Son of the Father) - eternally and unceasingly resembles how the radiance is born of light."

Book Floating Tomb Black Metal Theory

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Floating Tomb: Black Metal Theory is a collaborative collection of writings in black metal theory (BMT), an amorphous ‘metallectual’ movement initiated in 2009 with the symposium Hideous Gnosis. According to its earliest formulation, BMT seeks to creatively destroy the boundary between metal and theory, to make something new in the space of their shared negativity: ‘Not black metal. Not theory. Not not black metal. Not not theory. Black metal theory. Theoretical blackening of metal. Metallic blackening of theory. Mutual blackening. Nigredo in the intoxological crucible of symposia’. This volume gathers together previously published and new work on BMT focusing onmysticism, a domain of thought and experience with deep connections both to the black metal genre and to theory (theoria, vision, contemplation). More than a topic for BMT, the mystical is here explored in terms of the continuous intersection of black metal andtheory, the ‘floating tomb’ wherein metal is elevated into the intellectual and visionary experience that it already is.

Book Prudentius Hymns for Hours and Seasons

Download or read book Prudentius Hymns for Hours and Seasons written by Nicholas Richardson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining faithfulness to the Latin with sensitivity to Prudentius’ poetic qualities, Nicholas Richardson offers a precise yet creative verse translation of a major work by one of the most important Christian Latin poets of late antiquity. Prudentius’ Hymns for Hours and Seasons also provides readers with a wealth of supporting material which sets the life and output of this poet in its historical, religious and literary context, outlines manuscript and editorial details, discusses metrics and Latinity, and also gives a sense of the individual hymns of the Cathemerinon. Richardson’s fresh translation allows readers unfamiliar with Latin to understand and interpret the poems, as well as offering those who know Latin a translation that keeps very close to the original text. Detailed notes at the end of the book illuminate both the literary and the religious aspects of each hymn. This commentary, along with the introduction and translated text, provides students and scholars alike with a comprehensive volume on one of the key works of later Latin poetry.
