Book Distribution Theory for Tests Based on the Sample Distribution Function

Download or read book Distribution Theory for Tests Based on the Sample Distribution Function written by J. Durbin and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1973-01-01 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a coherent body of theory for the derivation of the sampling distributions of a wide range of test statistics. Emphasis is on the development of practical techniques. A unified treatment of the theory was attempted, e.g., the author sought to relate the derivations for tests on the circle and the two-sample problem to the basic theory for the one-sample problem on the line. The Markovian nature of the sample distribution function is stressed, as it accounts for the elegance of many of the results achieved, as well as the close relation with parts of the theory of stochastic processes.

Download or read book Topics In Circular Statistics vol 5 written by S Rao Jammalamadaka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-04-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph on circular data analysis covers some recent advances in the field, besides providing a brief introduction to, and a review of, existing methods and models. The primary focus is on recent research into topics such as change-point problems, predictive distributions, circular correlation and regression, etc. An important feature of this work is the S-plus subroutines provided for analyzing actual data sets. Coupled with the discussion of new theoretical research, the book should benefit both the researcher and the practitioner.

Book Equilibrium Markets and Dynamics

Download or read book Equilibrium Markets and Dynamics written by Cars H. Hommes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-05-14 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains essays in honour of Claus Weddepohl who, after 22 years, is retiring as professor of mathematical economics at the Department of Quantitative Economics of the University of Amsterdam. Claus Weddepohl may be viewed as th~ first Dutch mathematical economist in the general equi librium tradition of Arrow, Debreu and Hahn. The essays in this book are centered around the themes Equilibrium, Markets and Dynamics, that have been at the heart of Weddepohl's work on mathematical economics for more than three decades. The essays have been classified according to these three themes. Admittedly such a classification always is somewhat arbitrary, and most essays would in fact fit into two or even all three themes. The essays have been written by international as well as Dutch friends and colleagues including Weddepohl's former Ph. D. students. The book starts with a review of Claus Weddepohl's work by Roald Ramer, who has been working with him in Amsterdam for all those years. The review describes how Weddepohl became fascinated by general equilibrium theory in the early stages of his career, how he has been working on the theory of markets throughout his career, and how he turned to applications of nonlinear dynamics to price adjustment processes in a later stage of his career. The first part of the book, Equilibrium, collects essays with general equilib rium theory as the main theme.

Book Asymptotics for Associated Random Variables

Download or read book Asymptotics for Associated Random Variables written by Paulo Eduardo Oliveira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book concerns the notion of association in probability and statistics. Association and some other positive dependence notions were introduced in 1966 and 1967 but received little attention from the probabilistic and statistics community. The interest in these dependence notions increased in the last 15 to 20 years, and many asymptotic results were proved and improved. Despite this increased interest, characterizations and results remained essentially scattered in the literature published in different journals. The goal of this book is to bring together the bulk of these results, presenting the theory in a unified way, explaining relations and implications of the results. It will present basic definitions and characterizations, followed by a collection of relevant inequalities. These are then applied to characterize almost sure and weak convergence of sequences of associated variables. It will also cover applications of positive dependence to the characterization of asymptotic results in nonparametric statistics. The book is directed towards researchers in probability and statistics, with particular emphasis on people interested in nonparametric methods. It will also be of interest to graduate students in those areas. The book could also be used as a reference on association in a course covering dependent variables and their asymptotics. As prerequisite, readers should have knowledge of basic probability on the reals and on metric spaces. Some acquaintance with the asymptotics of random functions, such us empirical processes and partial sums processes, is useful but not essential.
