Book Dissociation Driven Diurnal Oscillations

Download or read book Dissociation Driven Diurnal Oscillations written by S. P. Zimmerman and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of a one-dimensional model atmosphere calculation incorporating dissociation of O2 and ionized species demonstrates that dissociation, through the production of atomic oxygen, can drive the vertical thermosphere and upper mesosphere into diurnal oscillations. It is further demonstrated that neutral mesospheric and lower thermospheric turbulence, through its control of atomic oxygen flow, can cause large amplitude variations of these oscillations. Book A Time for Metabolism and Hormones

Download or read book A Time for Metabolism and Hormones written by Paolo Sassone-Corsi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen spectacular advances in the field of circadian biology. These have attracted the interest of researchers in many fields, including endocrinology, neurosciences, cancer, and behavior. By integrating a circadian view within the fields of endocrinology and metabolism, researchers will be able to reveal many, yet-unsuspected aspects of how organisms cope with changes in the environment and subsequent control of homeostasis. This field is opening new avenues in our understanding of metabolism and endocrinology. A panel of the most distinguished investigators in the field gathered together to discuss the present state and the future of the field. The editors trust that this volume will be of use to those colleagues who will be picking up the challenge to unravel how the circadian clock can be targeted for the future development of specific pharmacological strategies toward a number of pathologies.

Book Transients and Bifurcations of the Mammalian Circadian System

Download or read book Transients and Bifurcations of the Mammalian Circadian System written by Adrián E. Granada and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2011 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many organisms have an endogenous oscillatory system that controls their daily rhythms in physiology, metabolism and behaviour. In mammals, these oscillations are found in almost every cell and are orchestrated by a tiny brain area: the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). This central pacemaker contains thousands of heterogeneous neurons that oscillate in a synchronized fashion and generate a robust about-a-day pace for the body. One of the fundamental properties of the SCN is to keep its internal period in synchrony with the external 24 hour environmental cycle, i.e., to entrain to the external recurring environment. Many properties of this complex network of coupled entrainable oscillators are poorly understood and the present work deals with some of these open questions.

Book Circadian Pharmacokinetics

Download or read book Circadian Pharmacokinetics written by Baojian Wu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the recent advances for the understanding of circadian clock system in the regulation of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. Basic knowledge in the field of circadian clock and pharmacokinetics are systemically introduced to make it easier for readers to understand the entire book's contents. The rhythmic expression of DMEs (drug-metabolizing enzymes) and transporters are summarized, and the underlying mechanisms thereof (i.e., regulation by circadian oscillators) are discussed. Typically, evidence for the DME- and transporter-mediated chronopharmacokinetics, chronotoxicity and chronoefficacy are highlighted in this book.

Book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine

Download or read book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine written by Anthony N. Nicholson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings the neurosciences to operational and clinical aviation medicine. It is concerned with the physiology and pathology of circadian rhythmicity, orientation, hypotension and hypoxia, and with disorders of the central nervous system relevant to the practice of aviation medicine. The chapters on circadian rhythmicity and orientation deal with the impaired alertness and sleep disturbance associated with desynchrony and with the effects of linear and angular accelerations on spatial awareness. Hypotension and hypoxia cover cerebral function during increased gravitational stress, clinical aspects of exposure to acute hypoxia, the mild hypoxia of the cabin of transport aircraft, adaptation and acclimatization to altitude and decompression at extreme altitudes and in space. Disorders of particular significance to the practice of aviation medicine such as excessive daytime sleepiness, epilepsy, syncope, hypoglycaemia, headache and traumatic brain injury are covered, while neuro-ophthalmology, the vestibular system and hearing also receive detailed attention. The potentially adverse effects of the aviation environment and of disorders of the nervous system are brought together, and the text covers the neurological examination as it relates to aircrew and explores current management and therapeutics. The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine is an essential work for those involved in the practice of aviation medicine where familiarity with the effects of the aviation environment on the nervous system and understanding the pathophysiology of relevant clinical disorders are of prime concern. The authors from leading centres of excellence are physiologists concerned with the aviation environment and physicians involved in the day-to-day practice of medicine. They bring to this authoritative text wide experience and expertise in both the experimental and clinical neurosciences.
