Book The Dissemination of Astronism

Download or read book The Dissemination of Astronism written by Cometan and published by Astral Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dissemination of Astronism is the one-hundred and fifth instalment in the Little Blue Book Series and comprises the second discourse of the Octadoxy, which is itself the eighth disquisition of the Omnidoxy, Astronism’s founding text. At almost a hundred and fifty insentensations long, this publication explores how Astronism is poised to be disseminated and debates how this dissemination will take place. The Little Blue Book Series was created and first published by Cometan himself as a way to simplify and commercialise the immensity of the two million word length of the Omnidoxy into smaller, more bite-size publications. A successful series from its very first published entry, the Little Blue Book Series has gone on to become a symbol of Astronist commercial literature and a way for Cometan’s words to reach readers of all ages and abilities who remain daunted by the beauty and yet the sheer extensiveness of the Omnidoxy as the longest religious text in history.

  • Author : Francis De Sales
  • Publisher : Shaw Books
  • Release : 2010-07-07
  • ISBN : 0307553167
  • Pages : 129 pages

Download or read book Authentic Devotion written by Francis De Sales and published by Shaw Books. This book was released on 2010-07-07 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centuries ago, Francis de Sales–bishop of Geneva during the lifetime of many first generation Protestant Calvinists–wrote about the importance of having a spiritual director. Yet he later told his biographer such a person “would be difficult to find,” suggesting that in these circumstances, “We can look for guidance among the books of authors who are no longer living. Devotional books are our best Directors.” Today, de Sales serves as such a spiritual director to countless modern day believers, and his Introduction to the Devout Life is recognized as one of the truly great works of devotional literature. Originally written as a series of letters of religious guidance, this enduring book is filled with thoughtful spiritual illustrations and radiates with a warm humanity that touches people of all religious backgrounds. A classic masterpiece of spiritual writing, de Sales’ book is acknowledged to be among the top handful of guides to Christian living. No matter where readers are in their spiritual development–whether they are beginners or skilled theologians–this modern interpretation, an “honest paraphrase” of de Sales’ work, will gently guide them down the clearest path imaginable into a deeper and more authentic religious life.

Book The Dissemination of News and the Emergence of Contemporaneity in Early Modern Europe

Download or read book The Dissemination of News and the Emergence of Contemporaneity in Early Modern Europe written by Brendan Dooley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern communications allow the instant dissemination of information and images, creating a sensation of virtual presence at events that occur far away. This sensation gives meaning to the notions of 'real time' and of a 'present' that is shared within and among societies”in other words, a sensation of contemporaneity. But how were time and space conceived before modernity? When did this begin to change in Europe? To help answer such questions, this volume looks at the exchange of information and the development of communications networks at the dawn of journalism, when widespread public and private networks first emerged for the transmission of political news. What happened in Prague quickly reached Venice, and what happened in Naples was soon the talk of Hamburg. Gradually, enough became known about daily affairs around Europe for people to begin to think in terms of a 'shared present'. An analysis of contemporaneity adds a new dimension to the study of the origins of news and media history, as well as to the origins of a European identity. For whilst our understanding of the circulation of manuscript newsletters and printed reports has increased in recent years, much less is known about the impact of this burgeoning journalism on a pan-European scale. Each essay in this volume explores the ways in which this international impact helped foster a developing sense of contemporaneity that encompassed not just single countries, but Europe as a whole. Taken together the collection offers the first panoramic view of the way stories were born, grew and matured during their transmission from source to source, from country to country. The results published here suggest that a continent-wide network, including manuscript and print, for the transmission of stories from place to place, existed and was effective.

If yes, then this book is your answer. The journey towards divinity (or truth or supreme consciousness) comprises of two major paths: Knowledge (gyan) and Devotion (bhakti). Actually, both are essential to reach your destination. Some people feel that knowledge is sufficient. But there is the possibility of developing an ego of knowledge and thereby getting stuck in the cosmic illusion once again. Devotion is what will help you to remain established in the liberated state. Devotion gives you the power to easily overcome the obstacles to liberation—the mind, its ego and various tendencies. It helps you to lead a truly successful and peaceful life amidst these chaotic modern times. It adds joy and music to your journey towards the supreme consciousness. With practice, you progress from the first to the tenth level of devotion, where you realize that divinity and you are not two different entities—both are one. Such bliss! But you then separate from divinity once again. Why? Only because you love the experience of devotion so much! Such is the sweetness or essence of devotion.

Book Competing Devotions

Download or read book Competing Devotions written by Mary Blair-Loy and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wrenching decision facing successful women who must choose between demanding careers and intensive family lives has been the subject of many articles and books, most of which propose strategies for resolving the dilemma. Competing Devotions focuses on broader social and cultural forces that create women's identities and shape their understanding of what makes life worth living. Mary Blair-Loy examines the career paths of women financial executives who have tried various approaches to balancing career and family. These mavericks, who face great resistance but are aided by new ideological and material resources that come with historical change, may eventually redefine both the nuclear family and the capitalist firm in ways that reduce work-family conflict.Table of Contents: Introduction 1 The Devotion to Work Schema 2 The Devotion to Family Schema 3 Reinventing Schemas: Creating Part-Time Careers 4 Reinventing Schemas: Family Life among Full-Time Executive Women 5 Turning Points 6 Implications Appendix: Methods and Data Notes References Acknowledgments Index Many professional women intuit that male colleagues whose spouse handle for them the details of everyday life are favored in the workplace. Blair-Loy confirms this intuition and shows us how it happens. She captures how the cultural schemas of "family devotion" and "work devotion" contribute to the reproduction of gender inequality, and how meeting the demands of a husband's job and other people's needs push professional women to progressively abandon their work to take care of others. Her analysis also gives us hope by comparing the fate of pre and post-baby boomers. This is both an important scholarly contribution and a book that will help readers think differently about their lives. It should be required reading for professional women who aspire to maintain multidimensional lives.--Mich'le Lamont, author of The Dignity of Working Men: Morality and the Boundaries of Race, Class, and ImmigrationThis is a fascinating book with an important message. Blair-Loy's findings are surprising. She challenges conventional viewpoints. She is on to something really new when she writes about not only the interplay between cultural norms and individual actions (and institutional structures) but on the cultural schemas that evoke deep emotional resonances. An outstanding book.--Cynthia Fuchs-Epstein, author of Deceptive Distinctions: Sex, Gender and the Social OrderMary Blair-Loy's book transcends old debates about work and family by examining the women who have beaten the odds and risen to the top. Her detailed examination of careers and strategies perfectly complements her subtle analysis of the schemas and visions these women have for their lives. Blair-Loy has given us not only a splendid view into a little known world, but also a new way of understanding the dynamic interplay of work and family. Looking beyond the static conflict we have studied so much, she shows how creative women put traditional schemas of family and work into a mutual transformation to build for themselves a new and more livable world.--Andrew Abbott, author of Time Matters.
