It has been arranged for the instruction in gross human anatomy in the University of Michigan where the required work for the degree of Doctor of Medicine can be completed during the first year of the medical course. Students working half of each day are expected to complete the dissection and systematic study of the entire body by the end of the first twenty-four weeks of the college year. For convenience the body is divided bilaterally into two regions with the arbitrary division at the level of the diaphragm. Each requires an equal amount of time. The success of the method being of far more importance than the success of the book, it is particularly gratifying to the author that a second edition is urgently called for. The book cannot be used as a quiz compend; it does not take the place of the larger treatises; it is only of value in connection with the cadaver, and as in the present form it seems to fulfill the purposes for which it was published, but few changes have been made in the text. If the whole period of dissection is more than twenty-eight days, the additional time can well be applied by taking two days, for each of the assignments up to and including the fourteenth, thus making forty-two days in all for the dissecting of a part with as many hours per day as is deemed advisable.
