Download or read book T U L I P written by Ben Lacy Rose and published by Providence House Pub. This book was released on 1996 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never before have the five disputed doctrines of Calvinism -- Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and the Perseverance of the Saints -- been presented in such an attractive and winsome manner. T.U.L.I.P. is written in clear language that persons in the pews can understand. For that reason, this book is being embraced by a broad spectrum of Christians who follow the Reformed tradition and is becoming recognized as an outstanding summation of the complex principles of Calvinism -- in a day when few Christians comprehend the theological underpinnings of the faith that they claim. Includes study questions.

Book Disputed Questions in Theology and the Philosophy of Religion

Download or read book Disputed Questions in Theology and the Philosophy of Religion written by J. Hick and published by Springer. This book was released on 1997-04-23 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hick gives a personal account of how he has come to accept religious pluralism - that the major world faiths are different but equally valid responses to ultimate Reality. He considers how much Christians have to learn from Buddhism, discusses the ongoing dialogue among Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and outlines a philosophy of religions - a conception of the relationship between world religions and between them and the ultimately Real. Finally he turns to the mystery of death and, using the resources of the world religions and of parapsychology, suggests a possible conception of life after death.

Book excerpt: This volume creatively explores the history of Christian thought by imagining a series of twenty-nine dialogues and debates among key figures throughout church history. It traces the history of theology via such conversation partners as Augustine and Pelagius, Calvin and Arminius, Barth and Brunner, and Bultmann and Pannenberg. Each imagined dialogue includes a brief summary that introduces the figures under consideration, a more detailed assessment of the thinkers and theological issues presented, and a guide for further reading. This approach offers readers an entertaining, informative, and concise history of Christian thought.

Book What Love Is This

Download or read book What Love Is This written by Dave Hunt and published by . This book was released on 2007-04-22 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many sincere, Bible-believing Christians are Calvinists only by default. Thinking that the only choice is between Calvinism (with its presumed doctrine of eternal security) and Arminianism (with its teaching that salvation can be lost), and confident of Christ's promise to keep eternally those who believe in Him, they therefore consider themselves to be Calvinists. It takes only a few simple questions to discover that most Christians are largely unaware of what John Calvin and his early followers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries actually believed and practiced. Nor do they fully understand what most of today's leading Calvinists believe. Although there are disputed variations of the Calvinist doctrine, among its chief proponents (whom we quote extensively in context) there is general agreement on certain core beliefs. Many evangelicals who think they are Calvinists will be surprised to learn of Calvin's belief in salvation through infant baptism and of his grossly un-Christian behavior, at times, as the "Protestant Pope" of Geneva, Switzerland. Most shocking of all, however, is Calvinism's misrepresentation of God, who "is love." It is our prayer that this volume will enable readers to examine more carefully the vital issues involved and to follow God's holy Word--not man's teachings. "The first edition of this book was greeted by fervent opposition and criticism from Calvinists. In this enlarged and revised edition I have endeavored to respond to the critics." --Dave Hunt

Book Theology of the Old Testament

Download or read book Theology of the Old Testament written by Walter Brueggemann and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this powerful book, Walter Brueggemann moves the discussion of Old Testament theology beyond the dominant models of previous generations. Brueggemann focuses on the metaphor and imagery of the courtroom trial in order to regard the theological substance of the Old Testament as a series of claims asserted for Yahweh, the God of Israel. This provides a context that attends to pluralism in every dimension of the interpretive process and suggests links to the plurality of voices of our time.
