Download or read book The Origin of Macroeconomics written by José Villacís González and published by Caligrama. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details an unprecedented finding in the history of economic thought: the true origin of macroeconomics. This occurred in Spain with the researcher Germán Bernácer (Alicante 1883-1965) and his first book: Sociedad y Felicidad. Un Ensayo de Mecánica Social (Society and Happiness. An Essay on Social Mechanics), published in 1916. Twenty years before the publication of The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (1936) by Keynes, Bernácer established the fundamental pillars of macroeconomics. Some of these works came to the attention of Professor Robertson in Cambridge where Keynes worked. Villacís demonstrates the invalidity of the fundamental equation of macroeconomics: savings equal to investment. This book discusses the epistolary relationship of the author, José Villacís, with Professor Robert M. Solow.

Download or read book Hunger and Markets written by United Nations World Food Programme and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunger and Markets is the third volume of the UN World Food Programme's World Hunger Series - created to help promote a better understanding of the choices confronting leaders as they work to fight hunger. It appears at a crucial time, with food prices at high levels, a severe global financial crisis and vulnerable households around the world endangering their future health, education and productivity by reducing both the quality and the quantity of their food intake. Hunger and Markets explores the complex and multifaceted interactions between the availability of and access to food and the operations of markets. The structure and dynamics of food markets and the threats and opportunities markets generate are crucial for the access to food for billions of people. Markets are also critical in averting or mitigating food shortages and hunger by adjusting to shocks, reducing vulnerability and coping with crises. Whether markets help or harm the hungry poor is a function of markets' institutions, infrastructure and policies. This volume analyzes the workings of markets in order to identify the sources of market failures in addressing hunger and malnutrition, and to highlight the ways in which they can be improved. The report sets out the ways in which programme design and policy formulation can build on the strengths of markets to prevent possible negative effects, and will be essential reading for all those involved in the fight against world hunger. This book was released on 2008-03-20 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terence Mills' best-selling graduate textbook provides detailed coverage of research techniques and findings relating to the empirical analysis of financial markets. In its previous editions it has become required reading for many graduate courses on the econometrics of financial modelling. This third edition, co-authored with Raphael Markellos, contains a wealth of material reflecting the developments of the last decade. Particular attention is paid to the wide range of nonlinear models that are used to analyse financial data observed at high frequencies and to the long memory characteristics found in financial time series. The central material on unit root processes and the modelling of trends and structural breaks has been substantially expanded into a chapter of its own. There is also an extended discussion of the treatment of volatility, accompanied by a new chapter on nonlinearity and its testing.
Download or read book Double Accounting for Goodwill written by Martin Bloom and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Goodwill, sometimes purchased but often more significantly internally generated, is the major constituent of the value of many listed companies. Accounting aims to provide users of financial statements with useful information, and more than fifty current International Financial Reporting Standards prescribe accounting disclosure requirements in minute detail. However, these Standards dismiss internally generated goodwill with a single brief provision that it is not to be brought to account at all. The impairment regime now laid down for dealing with purchased goodwill contains severe flaws, while previous methods have also been found to be unsatisfactory. This book traces the history of the goodwill accounting controversy in detail and demonstrates that it has been a prime example of an issue ‘conceived in a way that it is in principle unsolvable’. It explores the problem of recognising the importance of goodwill as a whole and finding a way of presenting meaningful information regarding it in the context of the financial statements. The author’s proposed solution builds upon research undertaken and uses a Market Capitalization Statement, based on a modification of nineteenth century ‘double accounting’ in a modern context. Examples show that the proposed Market Capitalization Statement has the potential to provide significant information not currently available form conventional financial statements, which in turn are freed to present clearer information.

And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" (Matthew 7:21-23, NKJV)
