Book A Study on the Disparity of Cult as an Impediment to Marriage in the 1983 Code of Canon Law and Its Application in Vietnam

Download or read book A Study on the Disparity of Cult as an Impediment to Marriage in the 1983 Code of Canon Law and Its Application in Vietnam written by Peter Nguyen Quoc Viet and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Familiaris Consortio, Pope John Paul II emphasized that: "Since God's plan for marriage and the family touches men and women in the concreteness of their daily existence in specific social and cultural situations, the Church ought to apply herself to understanding the situations within which marriage and the family are lived today, in order to fulfill her task of serving." Reflecting on the above mentioned teaching, the researcher aims at the situation of Vietnam where marriages between the Catholics and the non-baptized are increasing day by day. These are called the disparity of cult marriages. Such marriages are treated in canon 1086 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law: a marriage is invalid when one of the two persons was baptized in the Catholic Church or received into it and the other was not baptized. Such a relationship is classified as an impediment which is not to be dispensed unless the conditions mentioned in can. 1125 and 1126 have been fulfilled. It is necessary for the local Church, concretely the pastors, to properly understand the teachings of the Church as well as the juridical aspects of the disparity of cult marriage. Therefore laws in question can be adequately applied in local Church, thereby the pastors can help both the faithful and the non-baptized entrusted to their care. With this necessity, special consideration is given in this thesis entitled: "A study on the disparity of cult as an impediment to marriage in the 1983 Code of Canon Law and its application in Vietnem." This thesis is divided into five chapters: Chapter One is the general introduction to the thesis which presents an over-view of the whole framework; Chapter Two expresses the basic understanding of the Catholic marriage and the matrimonial impediments in the context of the Church; Chapter Three gives the presentation of the impediment on the disparity of cult, in a canonical manner; Chapter Four mainly concentrates on applying the provisions of canon law to the marital impediment of disparity of cult in Vietnam's situation. The thesis ends with Chapter Five which includes a summary, some conclusions and recommendations based on the points stressed on this research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of A Catechism for Family Life: Insights from Catholic Teaching on Love, Marriage, Sex, and Parenting is to present the teachings of the Catholic Church as they relate to specific questions in marriage and family life. Many Catholics are under-catechized and have trouble both understanding and articulating Church teaching on sexuality and marriage to an increasingly challenging culture. Pope Francis, along with the fathers of the two recent Synods on the Family, have called for better formation for those who work in the area of marriage and family life (see Amoris Laetitia, 202). To address this need, we gathered pertinent questions facing men, women, and pastoral workers in marriage and family life. We then found passages relevant to these questions by researching Church documents on marriage and family from the past one hundred years. These include papal encyclicals, apostolic exhortations, and addresses, Vatican II documents, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Mainstream media coverage of Church events and Church teaching leads many to misunderstand Catholic positions on marriage and family life. While the Catholic Church has developed a rich, detailed, and positive teaching on marriage, family, and sexuality, many Catholics do not have access to this teaching, buried as it is in lengthy Church documents which many find intimidating. Finding the relevant teaching to address specific questions is not always a simple task, either. This book’s main contribution is to present Church teaching relevant to marriage and family in one volume clearly organized by topic and question.

Book The Joy of Love

Download or read book The Joy of Love written by Pope Francis and published by DigitalBe. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amoris Laetitia (Latin for The Joy of Love) is the post-synodal apostolic exhortation by Pope Francis. Dated 19 March 2016 and released on 8 April 2016. It follows the Synods on the Family held in 2014 and 2015. Its introduction and nine chapters comprise 325 numbered paragraphs. Quotations are drawn from earlier popes, documents of the Second Vatican Council and regional bishops' conferences, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.. It includes what is thought to be the first reference to a film in a papal document, Babette's Feast (1987), along with references to works by Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz, Antonin Sertillanges, Gabriel Marcel, and Mario Benedetti. The Joy of Love has an Introduction and 9 Chapters: INTRODUCTION: Francis begins by noting a division of opinion during the synods: "The debates carried on in the media, in certain publications and even among the Church’s ministers, range from an immoderate desire for total change without sufficient reflection or grounding, to an attitude that would solve everything by applying general rules or deriving undue conclusions from particular theological considerations." He did not propose to resolve those differences by imposing unity: "Unity of teaching and practice is certainly necessary in the Church, but this does not preclude various ways of interpreting some aspects of that teaching or drawing certain consequences from it. This will always be the case as the Spirit guides us towards the entire truth..." (paragraph 3) He warns the reader that the document addresses many issues in many different ways and therefore says: "I do not recommend a rushed reading of the text." He asks the reader to consider the text "patiently and carefully". (paragraph 7) Another called it a rich reflection and a response to criticism of the 2015 synod's report, which opened with sociological concerns rather than Scripture. CHAPTER ONE: In the Light of the Word CHAPTER TWO: The Experiences and Challenges of Families CHAPTER THREE: Looking to Jesus, The Vocation of the Family CHAPTER FOUR: Love in Marriage CHAPTER FIVE: Love Made Fruitful CHAPTER SIX: Some Pastoral Perspectives CHAPTER SEVEN: Towards a Better Education of Children CHAPTER EIGHT: Accompanying, Discerning and Integrating Weakness CHAPTER NINE: The Spirituality of Marriage and the Family
