Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nationalist and Revolutionary While a high school student, I actively participated in the Mahatma Gandhis 1942 movement Quit India. I felt disappointed because only a few prominent leaders like Gandhi and Nehru were imprisoned. On Sept. 9, 1945, under the patronage of the Dadu District British Collector, the town dignitaries including my grand father and Mr. Tuljaram Nagrani, the principal of the town High school, along with the matriculate students had assembled at the Hindu temple to celebrate the victory of the Allies at the WW II. Sweets were distributed. I threw the sweets on the floor. The reason I did this was not because I sided with the Axis powers. But because Indian soldiers were fighting for Britain, as India was not a free country. Next morning, the Principal got me in his office and whipped me several times on my palms and ordered me to leave the school and come back with my parent. The principal told my father that Jagat to pay a fine of Rs. 5 and threatened that in case of denial I will be rusticketed (expelled from school as a bad character student) and no school would admit me. I am proud of my father that he said that only Jagat to decide. I said that paying fine means admission of the guilt. In my opinion it was not a guilt. I, with recommendation of my class teacher Mr. Chandnani, got admission in the P. H. High School, Dadu, only about 50 miles away from my home town. In 1947 on the eve of partition, there was an accidently bomb explosion in Karachi, suspected of an RSS activity. Several RSS leaders were arrested. A Khalsa police officer secretly alerted my grand father to hide me to avoid arrest. I, along with a few RSS pracharaks, secretly reached Karachi to take a ship for Okha, Gujarat, then train to Baroda. In 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. Because Godse was an RSS member, the whole RSS all over India was banned. I participated in the collective protest against the injustice of punishing the whole RSS organization because of the crime by its only one RSS member. Whole family can not be punished because of the crime of its one member. I was imprisoned in Baroda jail for four months. Thousands of RSS members all over India were imprisoned. Dr. Jagat K. Motwani

Book excerpt: This volume is a study of the European discovery of India's ancient past. Two hundred years ago, India was seen as a place with little history and less culture. Today it is revered for a notable prehistory, a magnificent classical age and a cultural tradition unique in both character and continuity. How this extraordinary change in perception came about is the subject of this book. The excitement of unearthing a city twice as old as Rome, the realization that the Buddha was not a god but a historical figure, the glories of a literature as rich as anything known in Europe, the drama of encountering a veritable Sistine chapel deep in the jungle, and the delight of categorizing 'the most glorious galaxy of monuments in the world' fell, for the most part, to men who were officials of the British Raj. Their response to the unfamiliar -- the explicitly sexual statuary, the incomprehensible scripts, the enigmatic architecture -- and the revelations which resulted, revolutionized ideas not just about India but about civilization as a white man's prerogative.

Wish you happy reading and best wishes for the examinations. Two words from Author… Don't live in the shadows of people's judgement. Make your own choices in the light of your own wisdom. Don't let anyone's opinion of which you should be friends or live with, dictate who you will be friends or live with. People will talk. They shall say some terrible things. But that doesn't mean you have to listen to everyone. Never ever worry about - log kya kahenge. At the end of the day, you are the only one who will face the consequences of your actions, so don't let other people make your decisions for you. “You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” – Tagore This famous quote is from Rabindranath Tagore’s drama ‘The King of Dark Chamber’. One can’t cross a river by merely standing and staring. Similarly, one can’t clear the competitive exams, by dreaming and reading success stories. One has to take a step and leap forward. One has to overcome the procrastination and should start reading the best and necessary material as per syllabus to succeed in the exam. The hardest thing in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn.” - Bertrand Russell Knowledge and hard work are not sufficient to clear the exams. To succeed, one has to do smart work. One should know what the most scoring areas in the preliminary are and the main examination, one should know which books have to be read and which books have to be avoided to become an officer with minimum efforts, aspirants have to be tactful. Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.” – Buddha This Buddha’s quote is not only applicable to the journey of your life, but also to your exam preparation. Realize the power of the ‘now’ and make the most out of your present. If you failed to study yesterday, don’t get carried away with that disappointment. Start every day a fresh and study with focus every day. “Genius is 1% talent and 99% percent hard work.” – Einstein Many aspirants think that only those having inborn talent can become officers. But, this is not true. It is only with your sheer hard, you can succeed in any competitive exams. With only your persistent and disciplined hard work, you can complete the syllabus and succeed in any exam. In life, one cannot achieve success without facing failures. Don’t get disheartened when you are not able to clear the exam in one or more attempt. One must know that failure is a very normal thing. Analyse your mistakes in your previous attempt, learn from them and prepare an action plan and execute it. Success will be yours. Arise, awake, and, stop not till the goal is reached. - Swami Vivekananda

Download or read book Ancient India written by Ramesh Chandra Majumdar and published by Motilal Banarsidass Publ.. This book was released on 1977 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive, intelligible and interesting portrait of Ancient Indian History and Civilization from a national historical point of view. The work is divided into three broad divisions of the natural course of cultural development in Ancient India: (1) From the prehistoric age to 600 B.C., (2) From 600 B.C. to 300 A.D., (3) From 300 A.D. to 1200 A.D. The work describes the political, economic, religious and cultural conditions of the country, the expansionist activities, the colonisation schemes of her rulers in the Far East. Political theories and administrative organizations are also discussed but more stress has been laid on the religious, literary and cultural aspects of Ancient India. The book is of a more advanced type. It would meet the needs not only of general readers but also of earnest students who require a thorough grasp of the essential facts and features before taking up specialized study in any branch of the subject. It would also fulfil requirements of the candidates for competitive examinations in which Ancient Indian History and culture is a prescribed subject.

Book Prehistoric Research in the Indian Subcontinent

Download or read book Prehistoric Research in the Indian Subcontinent written by K. Paddayya and published by Primus Books. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prehistoric Research in the Subcontinent is, on the one hand, a commemoration of the 150 years of the study of Indian prehistory, whose beginnings stretch back to Robert Bruce Foote's discovery of the famous sites of Pallavaram and Attirampakkam in 1863, and, on the other a timely study of recent researches in the prehistory of the subcontinent, highlighting regional and sub-regional variations. The first three essays in this volume are extremely valuable in their critical stock-taking of prehistoric research, palaeontological studies and paleoenvironmental reconstructions in the subcontinent. The regional and sub-regional variations of prehistoric cultures are brought out in papers focussing on a variety of areas like the Son Valley, the Narmada, the Hunsgi valley, the Teri dune sites and the central Ganga valley where research has continued for over three decades. Essays on lesser known areas like the Ayodhya hill region of West Bengal, cave sites in the limestone karst zone of Nagaland bordering upon Myanmar, and the Chakalpunji area in north-eastern Bangladesh add to our knowledge with their unique findings. Overall, these essays reflect the vibrant nature of Stone Age research in this part of the world even as they draw our attention to the many gaps that exist in our reconstructions.
