Download or read book Universities And Extension Services Future Directions written by P. Adinarayana Reddy and published by Discovery Publishing House. This book was released on 2006 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extension education has gained public support and it has envisaged as an instrument for social change. Hence, the UGC has recognised the extension as third dimension of the university. In India, University extensions have grown with the literacy programmes in the form of eradication of illiteracy and also attempted to understand adult illiterates for their educational needs, their psychological processes, learning potential, reference point and readiness etc. But the changing scenario of the society and due to globalization, urbanization and privatization, the role of universities and extension activities need radical changes in their approaches. In light of the above, a national seminar on Universities and Extension Services (Future Directions) was organized. The paper presented in the seminar have been compiled for the benefit of the academicians, researchers, administrators, stakeholders etc.

The 18 chapters range across urban and rural landscapes in South Africa with sectoral studies which include adventure tourism, coastal tourism, cruise tourism, nature-based tourism, sports tourism and wine tourism. Finally, the volume raises a number of policy and planning issues in the global South in particular relating to sustainability, local economic development and poverty reduction. Outlining the impact of tourism expansion in South Africa and suggesting future research directions, this stimulating book is a valuable resource for geographers as well as researchers and students in the field of tourism studies.

Book The Agricultural Scientific Enterprise

Download or read book The Agricultural Scientific Enterprise written by Lawrence M Busch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The State Agricultural Experiment Stations have played a fundamental role in the development of science and agriculture in the United States. From their inception in 1887, the experiment stations have attempted to wed basic research with practical application and have helped institutionalize a utilitarian approach to agricultural science. Agricultural research and the new technology it helped to generate were major factors in the transformation of U.S. agriculture into a high technology, mechanized, science-based industry. Moreover, the experiment stations, as the first large-scale, publicly supported scientific research institutions in the United States, have also long been models for scientific institutions both here and abroad. Compiled for the 1987 centennial of the State Agricultural Experiment Stations, this volume critically examines past performance, current issues, and future directions for public agricultural research in the United States. Each of the authors, drawn from disciplines as diverse as philosophy and agronomy, focuses on a central concern for the scientific enterprise. Issues include priority setting, maintaining and promoting disciplinary and interdisciplinary effectiveness, supporting higher education for agriculture, and efficacious dissemination of research findings. By setting these issues in their historical and philosophical context, the volume suggests new approaches for meeting the continuing challenge to achieve equity, efficiency, sustainability, flexibility, conservation, and consistency with other objectives of U.S. society.

Book Econophysics and Sociophysics Recent Progress and Future Directions

Download or read book Econophysics and Sociophysics Recent Progress and Future Directions written by Frédéric Abergel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-11 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the proceedings from ECONOPHYS-2015, an international workshop held in New Delhi, India, on the interrelated fields of “econophysics” and “sociophysics”, which have emerged from the application of statistical physics to economics and sociology. Leading researchers from varied communities, including economists, sociologists, financial analysts, mathematicians, physicists, statisticians, and others, report on their recent work, discuss topical issues, and review the relevant contemporary literature. A society can be described as a group of people who inhabit the same geographical or social territory and are mutually involved through their shared participation in different aspects of life. It is possible to observe and characterize average behaviors of members of a society, an example being voting behavior. Moreover, the dynamic nature of interaction within any economic sector comprising numerous cooperatively interacting agents has many features in common with the interacting systems of statistical physics. It is on these bases that interest has grown in the application within sociology and economics of the tools of statistical mechanics. This book will be of value for all with an interest in this flourishing field.

Book Planning Adult Learning

Download or read book Planning Adult Learning written by William M. Rivera and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this book challenged readers to consider the political issues, agency practices, and social directions of planning adult learning programs and services at the time. It confronts the subject of planning from the perspective of federally constituted countries where policies of decentralization generally prevail. It proposes that the concept of adult education may be too narrow to accommodate the breadth of adult learning in many different sectors, not only the Education sector. In clarifying main issues surrounding planning of adult learning, the book opens up new horizons for thinking about a field which heretofore had at best appeared conceptually confusing and politically unclear.

Book New Directions in Uneven and Combined Development

Download or read book New Directions in Uneven and Combined Development written by Justin Rosenberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces Uneven and Combined Development as an approach in international studies and showcases some of the latest and most innovative research in this field. The theory of Uneven and Combined Development originated in the writings of Leon Trotsky. However, in recent years it has become the subject of flourishing literature in the discipline of International Relations, due to its unique ability to reintegrate social and international theory. The first and second generations of this literature were focused upon retrieving the idea, expanding it into a social theory of ‘the international’, and applying it to numerous empirical cases – such as the rise of political Islam, the causes of the First World War and the Bolshevik Revolution, and even the origins of capitalism as a world system. In the present volume, a third generation has arrived which further extends the reach of UCD, connecting it in new and exciting ways to such subjects as ecology, macro-economic policy, culture, Science and Technology Studies, Comparative Literature and even science-fiction. The chapters in this book were originally published in the journal, the Cambridge Review of International Affairs.

Book Nested Relations and Complex Objects in Databases

Download or read book Nested Relations and Complex Objects in Databases written by Serge Abiteboul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-05-10 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume was primarily intended to present selected papers from the workshop on Theory and Applications of Nested Relations and Complex Objects, held in Darmstadt, FRG, from April 6-8, 1987. Other papers were solicited in order to provide a picture of the field as general as possible. Research on nested relations and complex objects originates in the late seventies. The motivation was to obtain data models and systems which would provide support for so-called complex objects or molecular structures, i.e., for hierarchically organized data, thereby overcoming severe shortcomings of the relational model. This theme of research is now maturing. Systems based on those ideas are beginning to be available. Languages of various natures (algebras, calculi, graphical, logic-oriented) have been designed and a theory is slowly emerging. Finally, new developments in database technology and research are incorporating features of models involving complex objects. A variety of approaches is represented in this volume. The first three papers give overviews of major pioneering implementation efforts. The fourth paper is devoted to the important issue of implementation of storage structures. The next three papers propose excursions in the foundations of nested relations and complex objects. The following six contributions are all devoted to modeling of complex objects. The area of database design is represented by the last four papers.
